Is it weird for me to say the child was in the right? The father's intent: to get the child to try something new to appear more "normal." The child's perspective: I'm being punished for liking music so much. Is music bad? Why? It makes me feel good. I didn't think I was hurting anyone. Did I do something wrong? The tantrum? Completely understandable.

When I was younger and at primary school the teacher took us outside for a sport type thing (probably basketball). I got over excited and was saying "ah". Not yelling though just a little over excited. Just as I realised I was doing it and took a deep breath to stop. The teacher had had enough and marched the whole class back inside as a way to say they did not approve of disruptive behaviour. I didnt think "I was being too excited and needed to concentrate" I thought "I must never show excitment again". Cut to my own birthday party where I was afraid to be excited about seeing my friends.

@@elisakrivas even if someone is addicted to cycling all the time. That may be healthy on its own but when u are literally doing nothing but that, it becomes unhealthy. People need to try new things and when ur that stubborn to change, something is wrong Ik, I'm terrible at wording things lol but hopefully u get wat I mean...

as I commented on the last episode preview(101), this is an ESSENTIAL behavior, he is self regulating his stress, from what happens in the daytime, or a bad week, this is his SAFE place, you should be seeing this as a ' nonverbal' cue he is stressed out and needs his "safe activity" or personal space to help himself cope with what is around him. this was not a meltdown, but a lower level of anxiety; HOWEVER , Lee ingleby you almost caused one, by not giving him his space ( or understanding his anxiety level).

Hello, you do realise this a fictional TV drama? Lee Ingleby is acting the part of Paul, Max Vento is playing his son Joe who isn't autistic.

@@NJ-zi9lr YES, but it is still important to correct inaccuracies, as this CONDITION is a real one, and this series is some peoples FIRST exposure to it, so let's get the impression of how to deal with it RIGHT FIRST GO!! ; so any parents who see it can know what is only fiction and what is real :-) I am also giving the actors/series writers a hint at what is the RIGHT thing to portray to people, and to NOT give in to stigma and misconceptions, but to tell the TRUE condition on film.

@@andyvan5692 As a drama it shows mistakes and misunderstandings too, and how their relationship develops over time from early confusion around Joe's condition. It's not intended to be a step by step tutorial or instructional piece. Just an observation.
