This abandoned hospital vessel has been sitting idle since the early 2000's. The Lila Acheson Wallace was the fifth and final vessel for The Floating Hospital, based in NYC, a company that is still very much active to this day.

I just think of the ( fresh AIR) treatment of the Time. On all medical treatments 😊 Readers Digest OMG what a beautiful way to spend time in fresh AIR of city Harbor on treatment for young people at the time. When you think back to medical treatments it was a lot of fresh AIR for sick people 😊❤😊. What a beautiful way to treat sick people in the waterfront of NYC. These are brilliant ideas.😊 The Rooms you went in galley had fresh vegetables storage also, very important on vessels at anywhere away from berthing at dock.

When I was a child in the early 60's my mother took me to that boat to get a physical so I could go with the Fresh Air Fund. The Fund allowed NY city kids to get out of town for the summer. I went to Penn Dutch country in PA where I stayed with a non Amish family that had a working dairy/tobacco farm.

Sort of funny story (makes me laugh to remember) I was in high school in the early 1980s and we were taken on a trip to the floating hospital for a health talk. We were sitting, quietly bored when the class clown yelled “look a rubber!” And the students ran to that side of the ship to see, and the ship tilted and the teachers all ran to the other side ( a 60 to 5 ratio at best) me and a couple other students laughing our asses off in the middle, the staff trying restore order and one of the the teachers yelling how it’s not like you guys never saw a rubber in the water! Ahh, the joys of being an unfortunate youth in the city 🤣

christened in 1973... like me. Not very old , especially for the steel was advanced enough to sit in water for centuries by that time. It is a barge, so no cathodic games of decay in that way either. I hope someone does something with it.

Filth and peeled paint. But appears structurally sound. You did mention it was listing. But it's still afloat and that in itself says that someone is still tending to it in some manner. The majority of what I saw looked like modern living spaces, a big clean-up and a repaint would go a long way.

It wasn't until I had the ear test in school when the tones or ringing began. Im almost 40 and the ringing is sporadic and I never forgot that it began on the day they asked to hold up a hand when I heard the high frequency noise. Seeing how high-frequency sound waves have been used in wars, I've always assumed the ear test is nothing what it seems.

You pointed to the "engine" room on the map, but never showed it? ..The only mechanical thing you showed was an air handler but I wanted to at least see where the generator or engine once set. Many river going building/barges (a lot of riverboat casinos) have an electric jet pump in the "engine" room (like a jet ski) to provide jet propulsion for the purpose of remaining stationary in the river or minor steering while being towed. A riverboat (barge) that contains people, must have a enough propulsion to push it toward shore if the towboat breaks free or becomes disabled.

I can think of a use for it and least it would bring in money for the owner and would help preserve it, an in door and open market stalls all it needs is cleaning either pay for a market stall or bring your own and just pay rent for area of the barge. If not scrap it what's the point of it just getting worse over time until a time it's so bad it's an eyesore & a danger.

Just amazes me how wastefull people are somebody buys it and tows it out and abandoned it and let it rot right into the bottom of the water and rust away . These could be turned into office complexes or cheap apt for less fortunate people. If not then take it to a scrapper and cut it up and recycle it but dont let it rot into the water and pollute . The main structure seems sound
