Hi Mat & Lads Just come across your BARV video series I remember these Royal Marine vehicles from my childhood in Devon The Marines had an amphibious assault training base at a nice sandy beach at Instow in North Devon.(you can find it on Wiki) It wasn't unusual in the 70's for families to have a summer picnic on the beach and for landing crafts to appear offshore. Next minute these green behemoths appeared from the sea with their Meteor engines roaring and snorting as they drove up the beach and across the road to their barracks. Tourists were absolutely terrified and rfled the beach ASAP, whereas the yokels remained on the beach towel and best china saying "anybody for more tea?" In the late 70's I joined the army and was trained on another so called obsolete centurion called an AVRE, which fired a huge frightening projectile called the "flying dustbin". I heard they were actually deployed in the 1st gulf War, another 10 years after the Falklands Keep up the good work

Looks a lot better after the clean, and paint? Good luck with fitting all the ancillary parts and getting it going. Been a long time since I saw one of these move under it's own power.

Takes me back when we used to do these main engine changes in the field using the old American half-tracks. They had a winch on the front and a folding jib arrangement. We later progressed to the 432 with a hydraulic jib. Must have a lot more room around the engine than I remember. We always put the exhaust manifolds on before the lift in. Surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that the Meteor engine does not have a flywheel. Who needs one with a 4cwt clutch assembly.

Capt Eric "Winkle" Brown - born in Edinburgh - flew the Sea Hawk as Commanding Officer 804 squadron Royal Navy circa 1953. In his book "Wings on my Sleeve" he describes the Sea Hawk "...It was in the realm of aerobatics that the Sea Hawk excelled and it says a lot for its good handling qualities that the young pilots with no previous jet experience were able to be moulded into a first class aerobatics team..." (One of the first aerobatics teams ever?) It is very likely this greatest naval carrier pilot of all time flew the very jet you have on the farm.

@Ignatios Nelson there’s friction and then there is 700 kgs plus swinging like a pendulum on the end of smooth forks. You might, respect for those that do it and get away with it...but if I’d have done it, that engine would have dropped 4ft and smashed the sump and what else...?

She was used as a doner for spares for the only airworthy Seahawk with the then Royal Navy historic flight, now Navy Wings. It would be so good to see her being looked after rather than the years of neglect she has had! Many thanks. Dave
