Frank has always been one of my favorite part of the show. He does everything so cleanly and clearly explains why something is wrong. It's helped me go thru my own house to start adding to the list of "these things were done wrong by someone and need to get fixed at some point." which is great. Sadly your show has really made that list long lol

Good stuff - I love listening to people with deep knowledge of their subject. Frank was always one of my favorite people to hear on your shows. One thing I'd like to see is the Ontario electrical code and revisions made available to everyone without the current $200 paywall (at least in PDF form). In my opinion, any information that relates to public safety or building practices, especially ones that are legally required, should be publicly available information. I'm a homeowner that is comfortable doing my own electrical work (yes, I always pull permits), but more importantly I like to be as informed as possible before starting any project. In addition to that, code changes in recent years mean that I technically need to pull a permit for something as mundane as replacing an outlet - I'd really like in future to see some sort of homeowner-grade certification or process that allows me to do simple electrical maintenance work without a permit (replacing outlets, changing light fixtures, replacing a breaker, etc.), where maybe I simply report any work done to ESA, perhaps with some photo evidence - as it stands, the current permit requirements are too restrictive - A $10 outlet replacement (avoid the $2/EA junk you get at Home Depot folks!) would end up costing $100 after permits and taxes. Luckily there hasn't been a need for that so far.

Our tax dollars are at work making those codes why can we not have what we're paying for with our taxes

Hands were still wet as I touched the metal plate of a light switch and everything got dark for a good hour. Did not get knocked all the way unconscious. From then on I made sure all light switch covers are plastic.

Most city's, counties, etc have online lookup for permits. I passed on several housed due to things line roof and ac replaced with no permits pulled. That made me wonder what else was done without permit or done wrong if a permit was not needed.

Hey maybe Frank the electrician can teach the "old dog" Mike Holmes the basics of household electrical work !! Based on one Holmes show I saw Mike Holmes didn't know there are at least 4 ways to feed both sides of a 220 volt AC circuit , not just one !

all UK sockets are switched so can be switched off it has been since BS 1363 was introduced in 1947 as one of the new standards for electrical wiring in the United Kingdom used for post-war reconstruction. The plug and socket replaced the BS 546 plug and socket, which are still found in old installations or in special applications.

After 50 years as a contractor most of the bad electrical work I have come across was done by licensed electrical people ! All these regulations are about and from the electrical contractors waiting money and pushing out everyone else out , not safety !!!

Got taken for 500 by a licensed plumber that pretended to fix the HVAC some years back. The place he claimed he got the parts from never heard of the company. Called this plumber and kept getting someone different on the phone after spending at least half an hour listening to football trivia while on hold. Filed a written complaint with the BBB which the guy fought but I won in the end. If asked, will tell the name of this company.

In the UK each Electrician has to be qualified and have Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS). Electrical Safety Certificate is also needed on all rental homes every time a tenant changes and or every 5 years. Electric, gas, plumbing, wals flooring in fact everything to do with building or repairing houses, covered by building regulations.
@jessesmith1681 Жыл бұрын
Here in Virginia we have electrical contractors and in order to have an electrical contractors license you must have at least one licensed master electrician on your payroll . Master electricians here must have so many hours of on the job training or so many years school to qualify to take the master electricians exam . Here the exam has only a few questions pertaining to the business end of things . Masters here are the ones that do load calculations and such . A licensed master electrician can pull a permit as long as the work involved is $1000.00 or less but above that limit you must have an electrical contractors license

well that's something most homes don't have ( a 3 phase electric service ) some large farms have 3 phase do to the high power requirements needed to run the equipment ! I know this there are 2 ( 3 phase electric services ) ! Single Phase residential electric is easy unless somebody screwed up everything really bad !

you cannot have sockets in the bathroom/toilet in the uk other than a shaver circuit.
Hey Mike Holmes you say people should leave Electrical and plumbing and everything non cosmetic work to the so called pros ! What's wrong with home owners doing there owner Electric, Plumbing, Structure and so on ? I see some of your shows and some of the work your redo that was done by so called pros looks like it was done by people that were drunk or high on something ! I say home nothing wrong with doing the work yourself if you have basic common sense and understanding of how things go together ! ( by the way still have challenges for you Mike Holmes to try if not to chicken !!
