Excellent guide! I've just started Rimworld this week and I've already got about 12 hours in it. One thing I have learned is that animals are filthy. I've read that they can track dirt into your base. As a colony with a lot of self-tamed critters, I've learned it's effective to build them their own place or at least restrict them to outdoors. It keeps the living quarters clean.

Good series, helped a lot. I still have problems with assigning some tasks such as harvesting large areas, getting wounded person from another map square (especially since guinea pig bite is deadly if there is no one to take care of wounded person), it does not cover everything like dealing with animals (tame 4 horses, they will eat all your supplies, what if bonded animal dies, ...) and for me problems are multiple mood debuffs (refused 3x, pain from bites, small hospital, transhuman, ... or night owl at daytime+insulted+...) which can be combined with global events to make it even worse. Then I end with doctor incapable of working and if backup doctor gets biten by rat ... game over. And it's 2nd easiest difficulty. Hopefully two persons which were problematic fell in love.

Didn't think of the double insulation bit, but I always use an airlock on every door to freezer so the cold air doesn't just get out and hot air get in, a corridor with 3-4 tiles between 2 doors, makes the path take a little longer at first but with autodoors it's not noticeable and your freezer stays nice and cool. Ramping up the con doesn't do much if you have a decent amount of traffic through those doors. As you saw you got to negative temp only at night when no one was walking in-out.
@BugPowderDust5 жыл бұрын
Good points, thanks. I tend to optimise a little later in the game- this is really just to show basics
@raifthemad5 жыл бұрын
@@BugPowderDust And you do it well. It's just that I find this fact to be pretty essential, that if door gets opened air temps tend to equalize on either side, and the game doesn't tell you that, so how is a beginner supposed to learn of it. Some might guess as much but most probably would just try to put more layers of walls around it and crank up the con. And this fact becomes essential if you happen to get solar flare, so there's nothing cooling the freezer and a heat wave or just a hot summer. And thanx to having to think about it I just came up with another idea for my next colony, having two freezers, one for ingredients, or at least meat and another one for meals. Meals don't spoil that fast and everyone travels to them so that adds a lot of traffic to my usual one freezer that could be mitigated with a second smaller one just for meals. If power goes out then it will get hot a lot faster, but meals don't spoil during that time, while the other one only gets used to put ingredients in and by the cooks. Dunno if it's worth it, just a thought I had while thinking about this stuff, after answering your post.
@BugPowderDust5 жыл бұрын
@@raifthemad Fair one. I actually leave a meal stockpile near their eating table to cut down on travel time. By the time it would go off, it's been eaten already.
@raifthemad5 жыл бұрын
@@BugPowderDust How familiar are you with the mechanic of people choosing what to eat. Since I'm not sure if they go for the ones that are closest to expiration and I think I've seen some go bad while people eat the fresher stuff so I just refrigerate all of it. I always have my freezer close to my dining area for that purpose.
@friedec36224 жыл бұрын
Tips: Make two freezer. One (big)is to storing meat, corpse, or vegetable harvest. And the other (small) to storing meal. Cook your meal until the small fridge is full of it and turn off the kitchen since it need many electricity. Only turn it on if you want to make another meal.

If you use Recruit, you will first reduce resistance to zero and then immediately begin recruiting attempts. The use for the Reduce Resistance option, I think is that once you reach zero, the prisoner will no longer try to escape, which is useful if you want to keep them locked up so you can sell them to a slave trader, or use them to harvest organs.

great series, maybe sum1 already addressed it but, since fine meals require 5 meat and 5 rice or veggies, and a simple meal requires 10 of either i would suggest always making fine meals for the buff if one has both meat n veggies :)

Big THX 4 that great beginners guide. bench watched & liked all 4 of them :) I always liked to watch Rimworld but thought it was a bit intimidating with all its micro mangegment. Now I think I'll just buy it and see where it takes me. My only questions.... Are trees a unlimited resource and do they grow back by themselve?
@BugPowderDust4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome :) Definitely buy it, there isn't massive amounts of micro'ing, as a lot is automated by the work priorities. Trees are finite, initially, but they do grow back. You want to move away from wood mid to late game, eg. replace your base walls with stone ASAP as wood burns like crazy if you get fires- and you will. You can research tree growing and grow your own, which can be worth it

Why do you install beds in the opposite way? I mean is it just because you like it that way or are there some advantages for doing that?
@BugPowderDust5 жыл бұрын
It is one square closer to the door, and there was another reason for doing so but I can't remember...! They can get to and from their beds, and receive aid, quicker.

Tips: If you have many steel, don't built passive cooler. Make AC to the corridor and use vents. Passive cooler is cheaper, but not fuel efficient (and man power to chop wood) for long run. 1 wood Generator can fed 1AC for 75 wood in 2.5days and excess 800watt. 1 passive cooler need 50wood for 5 days, but if you need more then it will be 100 wood per 5 days. It still fuel effective for AC since you can use excess electricity for another device, and possibly free because you use solar panel/wind turbine. Yeah but its expensive on steel for vents.
Any suggestions on how find steel? My base is about as advanced as this one at the end of the video. I’m having a huge issue with a steel shortage and not sure what to do. Also I purchased 3 muffalos from a trade with villages. How do I feed them? I have a ton of corn, rice, and meat in my storage but not sure how I feed them. Do they eat themselves from the food I have? Also what do they eat?
@BugPowderDust4 жыл бұрын
re. steel, do you know how to mine compacted steel from the map? It is then useable metal. The muffalo just graze the grass around your base, make sure you haven't restricted them to the base area. In the winter, they will need feeding, you can grow haygrass and feed them that? What biome are you on?
@Kingslayer4744 жыл бұрын
BugPowderDust Hello BPD. Thank you so much for the amazing response. I’m in a Tropical Rainforest Biome. Also I did know you can mine it but I can’t see to find any steel. I was watching one of your great videos and you said it mine in a mountain rock and inside you can find steel. So I’ll give that a go. Also the Muffalo were limited to my base so thank you so much because they were starving and I had no idea what was wrong. Also how do I get and store Haygrass? I’m in fall so winter is approaching. I barely have any food so looks like I am in a lot of trouble.
@Kingslayer4744 жыл бұрын
I did some research I found out how to grow Haygrass
@BugPowderDust4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend you start on Temperate Forest biome, and use Phoebe Chillax as the story teller. Find a Temp Forest hex with small or large hills too. With that set up, you have plenty of wood to get you started, and stone/steel to mine out. Also, the biome itself is kinder, better animals and easier to grow. Tropical rainforest is bitch to be quite honest!
@Kingslayer4744 жыл бұрын
BugPowderDust I will definitely do that next time. I actually barely survived the winter and actually doing quite well currently. Everyone nearly froze to death and starved but luckily I made it okay. Now I have a massive food supply so I am loaded up with food in a freezer. Won’t make that mistake again lol. I’m currently working on a massive expansion to my base and that’s going quite well too. It’s similar to your base design in EP2 of your newest play through. Thank you for all the advice and help I was only able to survive because it so thank you so much. This is a great channel and deserves a lot more subscribers. I’ll make sure to share it with my friends that play RimWorld too.
