Everyone everywhere has an accent. It all depends on where you are and with whom you are speaking with.
@justindexter28102 жыл бұрын
What really makes the accent is the speed. I'm from northeastern Dallas, and this sounds normal for the most part to me. But everyone I know from East Texas speaks real fast, and it kinda makes the words sound a little off

I'm from East Texas... Coke covers all sodas, even though Dr. Pepper is the preferred drink. My Dad is 83, also from East Texas, people his age often use the term "soda water", that also covers all carbonated beverages. The word "Oil" is like a syllable and a half, which makes it weird to Texans, so we say "awl" phonetically. Its less work. Much of East Texas is rural... A common statement is "I'm runnin' to town"... which sounds like just a statement of fact...but its really a question. It implies to all who are listening, that if they want anything from town, they need to speak up now. The word "runnin" means you are only there for a quick stop. So if anyone asks for something, it needs to be as convenient, or more convenient than your own errand. Your statement of intent is often met with, "What are you running to town for?...". That allows the person a guage for what they can ask for. If you say "I'm goin' to town, do we need anything?...". That implies that you are willing to go a little more in depth and stay a little longer, while in town.

I loved this video, I was looking up Texas accents and none of them were anything like me. It was kind of sad to see. Your accent is thicker than mine and probably because I grew up not far from Houston, but other than that and two words ("day-tah" for data) and (doodlebug instead of pill bug) we say all of the words and phrases the same.

I grew up in El Salvador (central America) but my family is from Lubbock (the panhandle) and my accent is pretty much like yours....growing up i never realized i had a Texan accent, but now it's so amazing because I'm not even from Texas yet i relate to Texas so much...

I grew up in houston and the accents in actual east texas have me rollin.. I'm also in Longview - quite posdibly the funniest place on earth. When I'mbored, I sit in the Wal Mart parking lot and take pictures of hillbillies being alive and doing hillbilly things. Like, even black folks are mad country here. It is the most hilarious thing ever. I was trying to find an East Texas accent because I'm with a friend from here right now and a friend who is from Chicago and insists she doesn't have an accent (she said Da Bears 32 times in the process). The second I clicked on this, my first thought was awwww, she's adorable, she looks like a tech girl... AND OMG!! So right!! We may not have a presidential library, but we will always have the cutest girls!! Raider Power, baby. Guns up and whatnot!

@slichtyler5 жыл бұрын
I had the same reaction! I’m a homesick Texan who has lived all over the world, and it made me so happy to hear someone say pecan exactly right. Puh-con, puck-on, something like that. (Just as a note, my wife and I have fought over how to pronounce caramel. She’s from Ohio, and she says it like Mt. Carmel.)
@MunthApollo4 жыл бұрын
@@slichtyler I say caramel probably how you wife says it. In my home town (Jefferson) I feel like most people said it "carmel," but I'm not sure. My mom's familly is northern though, so I have a hybrid accent.

Hi, I’m from Lufkin & my grandparents on Mama’s side were Mommaw & Poppaw; Daddy’s side were Grannie & Grampaw. Always have called wheeled wagon in store a buggy, too; I moved to Houston in the 90’s & all my co-workers laughed at me every day because of my so-called “accent”, LOL! My uncle’s wife is my Aint. not my Ont...if milk is sour, it’s rurnt, not ruined...my grandparents had some doozies...one of my favorites was “juberous”, which means you feel nervous, uneasy....you sound a lot like me, but I think I sound more “country” than you, LOL! 😄

I'm alright with calling soda coke also, since I'm Texan and it's just a generalization to us aheee. Legit video yo. I like comparing our differences, even though we are in the same state. I don't think you could ask homies,"hey fool, what do you call this or that?", that would be weird I think. You call it a buggy, but I just call it a basket. Grandparents. I dated a woman who grew up in Lufkin but who had gone to college in the Northeast and then lived and worked abroad for several years. She had lost most of her East Texas accent, but for me the telltale sign was that when she said words like “hill” or “pill”, it sounded more like “heel” or “peel”.

Mist kids from the South East have a problem with the "i - e merger" basically short i and short e sound similar in certain situations. Like Kin, Ken, Hill and Heel, Pin and Pen so on and so forth. Also on is pronounced "own" and so that confuses people as well. Talk is pronounced tawlk
@goddessfourwinds5174 Жыл бұрын
@@tlsmith4605 That's how we're taught. I can almost swear I learned that pin and pen were pronounced the same (I know they aren't). I grew up in Louisiana. It's regional. As long as you can understand me... I think we can still get our points across. 🙂
