Guthix is a name known by every RuneScaper, but how many of us know of his tragic beginnings? In this video I explore the tale of the God of Balance - the Accidental God - from his early days in the distant realm of Naragun to his alleged current whereabouts...and considering that this video took me, like, 40 hours, I REALLY hope you enjoy it!
Update 2-19-24: This video is randomly popping off over a year later, probably because While Guthix Sleeps is on the way! For those asking, I LOVE what Mod Ed has done with the lore and the direction he's taken with the stories, he's phenomenal. Trust him! The story is in good hands! He's woven together storylines from loose ends to give a different take that is nothing short of masterful, and when I get to SOTE and DS2 and the Dragonkin, you'll see what I mean!

@@barfyman-wn3id From 7:00 onward is absolutely guaranteed OSRS lore, and the parts before that are consistent with what Mod Ed has maintained throughout the series. I have no clue what's up with everybody screaming this is RS3 and being crybabies about this. Look at the outro screen if it bothers you that badly.

In RS3, it's revealed that after he established the Edicts, Guthix didn't just go to sleep, but began meditating to carefully maintain the balance of the energies required to keep the barriers intact. That's why when he was killed, the barriers fell and the gods were free to return. I like that part of the mythology because it adds to his whole "god of balance" thing, as he spent two eras in a meditative state, actively maintaining a balance on a cosmic scale.

@@wiseoldowl1628 Yeah, only stuff they "announced" were their combat beta progress and they gave us a short quest to unlock some jewelry only slightly useful for Necromancy. I'm disappointed at the RS3 team, especially with all the money they're raking in with all their key promos and MTX they have compared to OSRS which doesn't have any and has a proper full 6-month roadmap. I'm hoping things change drastically once the 4th buyout in a decade happens and CVC finalizes the deal and they're not just after squeezing us dry while not prioritizing good content

As an rs3 player, osrs is in for a treat if they are getting while guthix sleeps. It's a challenging and iconic quest that's killed many a HCIM over here. I'll be curious to see if the lore differs.

I'm really excited to see the direction the OSRS guys go with the major storylines, and sincerely hope Guthix lives this time around. As fun as the return of the gods and Sliske's wild ride was, it also came with its share of mistakes and letdowns. It is better, in my opinion, that these divine powers stay as legendary figures of the distant past, and we keep our mortal player's focus on the Mahjarrat, Vampyres, pests, trolls, kalphites, whatever the heck the white/temple knights did with their king, what's going on in the desert... There's really no end to cool things to focus on.

Fun fact the leader of the temple knights is a Cithothian demon loyal to zaros playing undercover and as a leader of a coup of half the white/temple knights that are loyal to Zaros and not Saradomin, i believe he is similar to Duke Succulas

Start with one small favour, excellent quest with plenty of action packed lore.

I was doing grand tree, I believe it was and there's a part where you need to find three gnomes for coordinates. The first two you find easy enough but the third when found starts babbling incoherently and speaking irrationally to which your character examines as "the war had taken it's toll on the poor gnomes mind" and you need to go find an alternate way of obtaining the last coordinates. JESUS CHRIST JAGEX GIVE US MORE OF THAT!

Also, I think I'll add this: guthixs one flaw was that he withdrew for so long that mortals either forgot about him or got bored which caused his death (in rs3 at least). Throughout the God questline, all I saw were other God's scheming on the outside to get back in... If he kept watch for just a few decades each century or so, I'm sure things would've been fine, but he just kept sleeping. Obviously I have no idea what's going to happen with him in OSRS... I haven't done song of the elves yet on an account, and I don't think there is an official God questline. I didn't know he threatened to reshape the entire area if the Gods invaded again.. that kinda hurts to know seeing as he gets killed in RS3.
