White cat22 is actually kind of a controversial HCIM death. When fossil island released, the deranged archeologist was supposed to be a non-wilderness alternative to the crazy archeologist to get a rune crossbow without 86 smithing or whatever it is. Well as players are wont to do, a safespot was found for the deranged archeologist, but as jagex wanted him to remain a dangerous alternative so as to not devalue the early rcb meta's risk, they hotfixed the game (which means you wouldn't have any warning that the behavior changed) to add an anti-safespot special attack to the deranged archeologist. This special attack is what killed white cat22. There is supposed to be a 15 second cooldown between special attacks, but the anti-safespot check bypasses this cooldown. White cat22 died by not having enough time to eat back up after the first special attack to survive the second, as they were back to back.

I mean, it is the old version of the game. Their creative freedom goes into rs3 for the most part. If people are playing the old version it's because they want the old version, and little stuff like an extra green pixel adds charm. Then again, people probably weren't MAD about it and it wouldn't have made people stop playing. I guess the issue is less that they changed it and more that they changed it after polling returned "no."

The telephone sound is just an audio artifact caused by the samples being 8-bit. There's no reason why there would be a telephone sound in the fist place, as the RuneScape sounds are digital synthesized sounds instead of sounds recorded with a microphone.

Very great list, love the editing on this video. With a game as old as Runescape you could make a nearly endless list to put in the iceberg, but if you ever do another one then I'd like to suggest the man in the Blue Moon Inn who is aware that he is in a computer game, the wooden ship which carried over from classic to RS2 but couldn't be obtained anymore, random events could kill people and they only had a minute to get their items before other players could loot them, people being able to duel anywhere back in classic, just to name a few. I'd even be up for version specific icebergs, there's a lot of interesting pieces of trivia lurking in the shadows.

I also feel like something this iceberg missed is the Runescape music videos. People would record their character singing along to songs and time emotes and such to it, sometimes with a group of friends. I remember old Runescape clients that claimed you could log in with you actual account and do stuff like gain gold and items, walk through walls, stuff like that. Never tried it because I knew better than to give my password to a third party, but I always wondered if they actually worked or if it was just a scam. Naturally you'd probably get banned anyway, but it was interesting to see. If I remember right, they even had video proof that they were legit, which means it was at least possible to accomplish.

The sound from the door is just that! What you’re hearing are overtones. All frequencies will cause other higher pitched frequencies to vibrate at certain intervals above the original one! Sometimes it gets crunchy

Another you missed was why party hats, Christmas crackers, and Halloween masks are billions on RS3 but not on OSRS. Basically, a glitch/bot (I forget which exactly) was found/used in order to duplicate the ever living poo out of them back in the early days of RS1. A lot of accounts even holding multiple party hats or crackers was banned as they were accused to duplicating them. This led to the party hat being an extremely rare item that could no longer be received, given it was part of a winter event. Since then, the price of party hats and so on just skyrocketed to the point they’re now more GP than a Tbow in the GE.

Bonds are a micro transaction, but I think they’re good for the games they’re in. They increase overall player count by giving players without real life money a means to play, bankrolled by more well off players. It opens up the game to more people

it'd be nice if the price was manageable, I remember being a kid and trying to grind for a bond, but it took me years just to afford 1, and in the time I stopped playing that price rose to over 10x the amount than when I bought mine. I know if you play efficiently you can basically get free membership for life through making money for bonds, but it doesn't feel viable for younger players who want membership but can't afford it. Maybe a student discount would be better for RS, something more affordable for students who want to play but can't afford the high cost.

Never played RuneScape but there was a similar game where an item was over-valued at 1 mil gold. Greedy ppl were quick to sell, so in my own greed, I said I was buying. Input 100k, and they were so excited, they agreed quickly. Worked several times because they didn’t pay attention to zeros.
