Gavin, yes gravity affects a straw. The ~10m limit on (vertical) straw length is due to gravity as it's the point at which the force exerted on the water by gravity equals the force exerted on the atmosphere by gravity. It's the atmosphere that pushes water up the straw when you create a partial vacuum with your mouth. If you use a straw under water then the limit increases. Conversely if you use a straw on top of a mountain the limit is lower. On the moon a straw wouldn't work at all because there's no atmosphere. Horizontally there's no hard limit, though energy would still be lost to friction.

Mrtheunnameable, the "suck" does nothing without the atmosphere. It's the imbalance in pressure between inside the straw and outside the straw that causes the liquid to rise. If there were no atmosphere (i.e. you were in a vacuum) you could suck as hard as you want, nothing would come out of the straw.

I won’t be getting it cuz it’s not for me, but to play Devil’s Advocate, the main reason for the 70 dollar price tag isn’t the cardboard, but the fact that the cardboard also comes with a game. They even have instructions on how to do all of the peripherals online if you already have the game and cardboard
