"This show really does make the Jedi seem extremely sinister... They're never just straight up evil, and that really does seem to be what the show is going for here." 100%. With the Jedi seen as the intergalactic police, this show is staged as a tale of vengeance against Jedi abuses of power, from the minority's point of view. While a lot of that execution (haaaated the every-episode reminder that dude wanted to go home) and trope use (surviving a fall, mind wiping) is poor, other aspects do hold up in that vengeance lens. Specifically, things being played flat so that multiple perspectives can be considered for any given scene, because no one is the villain in their own story. Big props to refusing Rise of Skywalker. No need for that.
