My God, I haven't watched the show at all but in every clip that I see, the actress has the same vacant look on her face. She really is a Plank of wood.

Its a case of what the program is SHOWING US doesn't match up with what its TELLING US. The whole smoke demon thing. I can't even with this show, honestly. Edit Its not that people change their minds thats the problem. Its that they change their mind for no reason. The technical nature of bleeding a crystal aside, this story may be dressed as star wars, but it isnt.

You make a great point, why would Osha be the one who wanted to kill Sole instead of May. Their motivation should have been flipped because it would have better fit for their characters alignments within the story.

Because Sol betrayed Osha and lied to her for her entire life? Is this a serious question?

@@hoos3014just because of accusations of people we know that they are bad? Not listening further? But i admit, Sol was also badly written, especially in this scene.

Osha accidentally and unknowingly bleeding Sol's crystal is one of the only things in the show that I actually consider to be lore breaking. It's very clear in the lore that making a kyber crystal bleed is a very deliberate act. If it could just sort of happen like that, then Anakin's saber would have turned red while he was storming the temple, or at the very latest whilst he was fighting Obi Wan.

It makes me want to throw my poop, the whole Disney Star Wars Porfolio I mean The George Lucas Raped Our Childhood Movement was already the end of me but the sequel trilogy really nailed the coffin shut. I had my issues with the aesthetic and execution of the prequels but Jesus Christ! No matter how bad the prequels were the sequels in an attempt to undermine PART of the Skywalker Saga they ruin the ENTIRETY of it. They actually ruin the original trilogy characters and their arcs! Luke Han and Leia not only die but they die in the form of a humiliating defeat after all their work including their own personal growth is rendered obsolete: the empire was never defeated, the emperor was never defeated, all death stars were red herrings for the Death Star destroyers, the republic was weak and useless, Han went back to smuggling after fathering a Sith Lord, Leia spends her screen time in a coma and Luke grows up to be an asshole! Luke pulling his sword on Ben when sensing darkness is that bad: he may have stopped himself but he still disillusioned Ben and then ran away and did nothing to right his own wrongs, no attempt to redeem Ben nor apologize. He doesn’t even function as a mentor: Rey trains herself and reaches her empowerment in spite of him rather than through his guidance The whole insensitive to move away from these characters and wipe the slight clean of the ongoing narrative of Skywalker Saga during the Skywalker saga no less is ridiculous. There is NO nuance either: it’s the same story as the OT but with the characters names crossed out with some new NAMES written in. I get the impression that so many Disney staff members and influencers are in denial: they literally made careers thinking they know Star Wars better than its own creator only to find that they are totally clueless This show is of course living proof

Turning red sound like it's lore breaking. It could be Osha being confronted with having becoming something loathsome. But nah. If Osha was a believer in the Jedi religion (for years) rather than being in it for the cool powers, she should be... just destroyed. And, at a human level, a character committing murder wouldn't think "Guess I'm evil now". I think Anakin was corrupted over years. If you have a basic understanding of human psychology and your characters are meant to represent humans, then Osha could struggle with the trauma for years. The problem then becomes headland painted the corruption arc as 'positive'. If you were a fan of the show, then you'd probably need to think 1) oh qimir is sooooo dreamy 2) murdering Sol was justified and 3) Mae's mindwipe erasing being a violent lunatic (wasn't she force torturing a space butterfly?). They've annoyed a lot of customers and attempting to course correct would risk annoying the remaining fans (who must be so evil that they'd smile on Osha if she had decided to cut out Sol's heart with a lightsabre). Particularly painting qimir as morally grey is difficult. If Osha is plausibly tortured by guilt, having Qimir on hand is a problem. If he wants a student, then he isn't going to tell her to seek psychiatric help. There's a fundamental conflict between his needs and hers. If she wakes up the next day and says "I can't live with myself", he's have to steer her away from her humanity, or keep her captive, or dispose of her. If Osha had to trade to get the mind wipe for Mae, then it was something he did in terms of accepting risk to gain reward. Unless the mindwipe is perfect and permanent, he has no reason to agree to it. If she reneges, he's only known her for days during which he's killed absent a scintilla of regret. He's dumping her body in the ocean, right?

Its kind of funny how in a weird way, Osha and Mae (who thanks to Little Platoon I know as Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Fanny Mae lmao) are opposites....for all the wrong reasons. Lets put it this way, Occupational Safety and Health Administration is a consistently boring, unitereresting and unmotivated protagonist whose so lacking in substance, it begs the question of why SHE is the main character, given her lack of character progression...or anything in terms of character. Coversly, Fanny is inconsistently annoying, bratish and moronic character whose motivations, goals and desires change whenever Leslye or whoever is writing her in whichever episodes feel like. Osha and Mae are only opposites from a surface level, there's no deeper meaning, one is good, the other is evil, except when they're not or the opposite, or they are. And thats ultimately the issue that bleeds into ALL corners of the Acolyte. The writing team clearly spent so much time stroking the concepts behind the show, that they turned a blind eye to the execution. But thats of course, if we believe these people cared about story telling. Even if these people didn't like SW or weren't that big on the franchise, if they cared for or valued storytelling, perhaps we would be discussing the show radically differently. How many times does a writer need to lose their head in the execution before someone in the room realises that they shouldn't be writing in any capacity, let alone be given 180 MILLION DOLLARS to do so

Sigh. It's one thing to not like the show, but being loud and wrong right at the top is something else. Despite your protest, Osha and Mae ARE characters. They are maidens. Here is a basic definition: The maiden archetype is a feminine archetype that represents innocence, youth, playfulness, and a lighthearted nature. In society, the maiden is valued for these qualities, but she can also be naive, self-centered, and compliant. She may also lack the drive to complete her dreams. The maiden archetype is also known as the damsel in distress, and is often depicted as a young, powerless female character who needs to be rescued by a male hero. In this role, the maiden creates conflict and moves the plot forward, while also representing the hero's desires and motivations. Osha and Mae are both shadow versions of the Maiden. Maybe we can talk about that later.

So they are more like a Mcguffin?
@hoos3014
@hoos3014 2 ай бұрын
@@fiktivhistoriker345 No, they are not McGuffins, which are usually objects. They are Maidens, one of the six major life stages described in Jungian psychology and other texts. There are thousands of examples of Maidens in our literature from Persephone in Greek myth to Cinderella in folk tales to Mia in Pulp Fiction. The problem is that most of our current fiction including Star Wars ONLY focuses on the second stage, Hero. So people who make critical videos like this only know one of the six stages and they think that anything that falls outside of that is somehow wrong.

@@Joe-Przybranowski Good and bad, don't get distracted by that, it will just confuse you. Yes, I would like to see people who are in the business of media criticism to have a passing knowledge of literature, mythology and folk lore so when the project they review make references to them there can be at least a glint of understanding. Crazy idea, I know: The English language did not begin with A New Hope.

@@hoos3014You don’t need to be a media critic to see the Acolyte is a bad show, and regardless of whatever archetype Leslye was trying to pull off with Osha and Mae it failed. The maiden archetype, generally speaking, doesn’t randomly switch allegiances every five seconds or lust after the villains of a story who killed her supporting characters. It’s not that deep, they’re just badly written.
