Simple : Remuneration is based on market value. Why don’t these female talk about how Fashion industry pays more to female than male and top male models were paid mere 12% of what Bella hadid was paid. It’s basic economics and these ppl know it but still try to exploit it. 😒 Decades ago there was not much pay for Indian cricketers but now they are getting paid because they proved it after 1983 WC. If women suddenly want equality there, it would be unfair because the market didn’t exist but it was built.

About the pay parity, it all depends on how many tickets your name sells. How many people gonna buy a ticket to watch you, how much contribution you have to the movie, etc, all these factors matter. It is not about the gender. It is about how many people will come and watch you for you being in the movie.

The pay gap is dictated by viewership and that's the reality. The fact is that we're still in a male driven stardom than a female and that's absolutely dictated by the viewers. As much as male actors get paid more, there's also a huge burden of performance on them and they're heavily punished for failure unlike female actors who have more fluidity. I'm not saying male actors are having it harder but both have their own struggles but if they want to get paid more then they should pull more crowds and be ready to accept the penalties of failures like male actors do.

@@Nakumomurukani But here's the thing, let's assume gangubai didn't do well. Despite the failure, Alia can always go back to acting the cliche heroine roles and people wouldn't mind. That's what I meant by fluidity. If the same happened to a male/hero driven story, say KGF or Ayushmann's movies, then the probability of them getting cast on the next project is much lower because like it or not, people judge the male actor in a movie based on his previous work. If actor A did a flopped film in 2022, then lesser people are going to watch his 2023 content. That's burden of performance. I'm not even touching the fact that female actors are able to star in multiple movies in a year while male actors, especially famous ones only do 1 or 2 in a year. We can argue, "then male actors can do multiple movies like female actors do" but the market, viewers and fans prefer quality over quantity although some "quality" ones flop. Since the majority of male actors are going after quality due to the burden of performance while the majority of female actors are going after quantity while having the option of going for quality content is what fluidity is all about for female actors. One which male actors don't have. You asked the question of how female actors can achieve the same level of stardom like male actors?. This is the same thing in all fields, why male cricket stars are more famous than female cricket stars, why NBA players are more famous than WNBA players?. It's all in the hands of viewers, fans, projects, business and etc. Nobody is at home watching a woman's national cricket team on Sunday midnight when they got work the next morning but when the men's national team is on play, people are even willing to use annual leaves and fake sickness to watch it and take note half the population are women so this explains best that people in general are not willing to invest more than needed if it isn't worth it and the same goes to the female VS male actor pay gap. Sure gangubai is an awesome movie and Alia acted brilliantly but people are not throwing their money there but rather to those mass commercial movies or male centric movies.

@@Nakumomurukani I'd like to correct that it's not an audience problem but audience preferences. They like what they like and if a female actor delivers what they want then they'll like it. The good thing is that times are changing and fortunately we're seeing more female directors, technicians and scriptwriters so if more women can support women content creators then surely that itself will influence the others to check out as well. Also the sports industry and the entertainment industry are basically the same. They're not paid a fixed salary like in corporates but it's by achievement and the amount of "sales" these stars (actors or players) can do. Example, say Woman's cricket team can only get 1500 audience who buy tickets to watch their game even though they played well while 15000 sold for men's cricket even though they lost. The same for theatre tickets. Ultimately, people decide.
