Ever consider less than a 6 Pokemon team and/or experience scaling? Looking at your hall of fame Pokemon, I calculate a minimum of 428063 experience investment depending on catch levels. Probably slightly more; catching some at the highest level possible will leave few options to train them for their designated obstacles. If you drop both slow scaling Pokemon, that's 100,000 XP for the remaining team members average. That would take infernape from level 40 to level 57! Just exchanging a Slow growth Pokemon to a Medium Slow or Medium Fast is a jump from level 44 to level 47-48 if not redistributed across the team. As you get closer to level parity, you can be a lot more flexible with team building choices. Jolly Floatzel can start outspeeding Cynthia's Garchomp and threaten 2HKO with Intimidate support around level 50-52. Weavile can outspeed and OHKO at those levels. Given the same intimidate support Weavile can threaten the 2HKO around level 45 with Intimidate support! This also leaves utility slots on the team open. HM slaves, Pickup Aipom/Pachirisu, Kricketune catcher (Sing+False Swipe), and Mr. Mine item Trickster all can tag along as desired and give great value. Yanma, Mr. Mime, and Shuppet are particularly noteworthy as tricking a Lucky Egg off of a Chansey can help further with experience. Infernape, Blissey, Jolteon, and Staraptor are solid choices. But you can get away with less strategy without the XP hogs of Gyarados and Hippowdon. Consider Infernape, Staraptor, Luxray/Jolteon, and Floatzel/Weavile. This line of thought also makes Kazza the Kadabra a worthy consideration. It may not be the best answer for a lot of scenarios, but a 50% experience boost makes it a resource efficient answer.

That's an interesting approach! My playthrough rules require I use a full team of 6 members that battle all the obstacles in this game, with hm slaves only being used for the hms. That said, I may consider making another category based on your feedback because if what you're saying is true, teams centered around this approach would be better suited for viewers looking for teams that maximize "exploration enjoyment" as a viewer from my black and white team phrased it. Thanks for sharing!
@burgeal Жыл бұрын
Ah, yes a full team requirement does spread experience thin. I do recommend a compact team for unconstrained runs and would love to would love to see more compact team discussion. The horrible Johto scaling is very manageable when XP is split between 3 (maybe 4) team members. Extra levels also allow more team flexibility. I agree that Gyarados and Hippowdon both bring aspects that are well worth that extra experience when at such a level deficit against the AI. When split 6 ways, the benefits of a faster experience growth gets swallowed by the cubic XP requirements too fast. The impact of scaling is proportionate to the fraction of the team affected. The difference in levels cause by each slow Pokemon (instead of medium slow) should be about 1 level for 6 team members at the Elite 4.

This is well build up! I'm so glad Hippowdon made the list! Staraptor makes the list quite easily even if you go in-depth like this or you take the casual route, regional birds can really be fun and feel more like the main story / anime although I didnt pick him! It's good to see more reason behind Gyarados other than the typical "Its better than Floatzel" It's also great to not always see Garchomp so Hippowdonn & Quagsire get some respect. My team is Infernape / Gyarados / Roserade / Garchomp / Togekiss / Luxray however I think I might still switch Luxray to Jolteon (on level 45 whoops) and Roserade for Weavile. I'm curious how a casual optimised team would look like.. probably something like Barry's picks! Without his starters he would go Staraptor / Floatzel / Roserade / Rapidash & I guess Heracross for type fill & with 5 offense the bulky normal type snorlax just fits in?
@Alastordadeer7 ай бұрын
Imagine if Garchomp was here? And rotom in place of Jolteon? Perfect team. Sand set up for Garchomp to solo every team because evasion is busted and Garchomp is basically a legendary. Gyarados should be the only intimidate user needed since it is the superior one of the two between it and Staraptor. So that can be replaced with Garchomp

I think magnezone should replace jolteon after crusher wake. It has the better typing, better stats, and just better everything else.
@DFuegoH Жыл бұрын
True, except that breaks my playthrough rules. Accessibility is just as much a factor in determining members as their raw strength. The best team should be able to overcome all the obstacles in the game without relying on any substitutes. With Jolteon, this team can do just that. Magnezone is part of many of my best teams, but this isn't one of them because it is not available until after Wake.

All the pokemon you mentioned outspeed Weavile when he is underleveled. When I used him in a test playthrough, he was destroyed by Espeon's signal beam, Alakazam's focus blast, and Garchomp's flamethrower. Gliscor's fire fang dealt a lot of damage, and Roserade was strong enough to defeat Weavile in two shots. Jolteon can take care of the flying types in Cyrus's team.

@@Alastordadeer actually I disagree with you that alternate form Rotom is stronger than Jolteon for pretty much any team.
