Also just want to clarify to the people who have read the manga. This video is a little outdated as some of you might have noticed. I suck at editing so when i was making this we were still on the Yumeka arc which was why i said it was slow, I am currently caught up AND IT IS GOOD Edit: It's about a month since I uploaded this video and after HEAVILY analyzing my intro I see that I didn't do the best job of describing what shonen and shoujo manga is and I can now see that very clearly thanks to the comments 😅 Hope everyone watching can be patient with me, I've been doing youtube for awhile now but never really had an "audience" or "viewers" that would actually watch my stuff so it's a little overwhelming to have this many eyes on me all of a sudden. I'll be sure to do more research for my videos from now on and hope I can further improve my content for all of you in the future :D

If I could recommend another manga/anime that is from the male perspective : Insomniacs after School is probably my new favorite romance Manga/Anime my boyfriend and I watched it over the last couple days, absolutely amazing!
@robertoaltuve4145 Жыл бұрын
@@H3artEyes. The yumeka arc was one of my favorites, the character is easily my fav. Though that's not hard in my opinion, is not that i hate any character i like them all but i'm used to great deep characters of seinen or really special shounens and in this type of manga is easy to a bit of variety to stand out, and that was yumeka for me. Her design is unique compared to others and her personality is great, she can be an asshole but is a fear of facing her problems and friend. Besides it seems the girl knows how to pick a boyfriend. The manga is great compared to others romcom shounens, where the fanservice to male audiences is a must since 1 chapter. Not saying this one doesn't have a bit of it in some ways, but anyone who knows the common shounen tropes can see how in this manga the difference is abbysmal. I don't know if the author is a woman, but i suspect it, because only women do this type of writing, i know shounens usually follow the norm and i know the public is teenagers, but that system is too way corrupted and it fucks almost every story that has shounen as the demography. I just don't know if it's just a type of "rules" around shounen or Japanese male authors are really that delusional and corrupted.

When you said that your favorite romance anime was Lovely Complex, I KNEW you had TASTE!! I've seen not many people talk or appreciate enough this anime, and the newer people that start watching anime (or even romance anime) don't give it a chance cause it looks old. But since the first time I saw it, I've never seen another thing like that. Idk what it has but I always come back to it (almost every year) even tho I like other shoujo anime and mangas too but I don't rewatch them more than 2 or 3 times. So I'm really curious of this new manga, Blue Box, u are talking about. Thank you so much for the recommendation!

I have always LOVED shoujo anime and manga because I enjoy being very heavily emotionally invested in a story with characters that feel a lot more believable. The main barrier from connecting to it 100% was always that the main character was a female. So I am extremely excited to see a male protagonist in a shoujo-like story.

One of the reason I felt nostalgia while reading this is the emphasis on background in this manga, back in older manga it was very important to have background in almost every panel as it really pulls you in the story and keeps you grounded in its universe. Been following Blue Box since it was just a one-shot. It's rly good. Relatable, no exaggerated jokes/dramas, with believeable storyline and characters. The MC is just a normal guy with normal social interactions while the FMC is a cool but cute girl who is determined to achieve her goal. The plot on how Chinatsu ended up living together with Taiki is slightly far-stretched but still completely possible to happen in our real life. How they both ended up fall in love with each other is also simple and relatable. And the confession is......aaaghhhhh so romantic but not too exaggerated that even I as a guy can enjoy it. Also a shout out for the wingman, he looks nerdy but actually rly cool-headed and give enough support without meddling too much. This wingman most likely will ended up with a super noisy girl thought lol.

I personally have been making my own comic in hopes that it can possibly give the same feeling that many of us felt many years ago. I didnt like it after 20 or so chapter. The characters were unnatural. It was uncanny how much the ML worried about the smallest things and how often the characters apologized to each other. It was melodramatic in the sense, that characters reacted too much. When the MC didnt want to talk about his worries with his friends, the friends reacted so unrealistically and almost antagonistic, which is especially unrealistic considering they were boys. In general all the male characters are pretty unrealistic. I would have continued reading if it didnt turn into a complete slice of life, where the only interesting thing is the melodramatic overreactions. Also FL was kind of a Mary Sue.
@Focus2Xeno Жыл бұрын
@@Brien831 good point actually tho for the most part, i think most of the apologizing stuff going on with the ML was due to his past and how he's just pretty much started to move forward since then. The first thing that got me is the slower pace that feels so much authentic to me and the fact that all the major characters are interesting and well written, then from the sport perspective, i've to say i like that this series rarely shows you games and tournaments, but rather focus on the discipline and the work and athlete must put everyday, it's quite refreshing. At first, I was only drawn to it because I had just finished My Little Monster (must read for shoujo romance enjoyers) and I was deprived and wanted something to fill up the void and I found out those two mangas almost have the same art style. The manga is about a basketball player and his team manager developing feelings for each other and then slowly maturing becoming a better couple. It has perfect pacing, spreading over 130 chapters through their freshmen to college to graduate years. The manga has a pretty heavy focus on both basketball and romance as they often intertwine. It's really great stuff, but I think that the shonen rom coms that you are referring to are mostly Shonen Jump and Shonen Magazine Harems, which I kinda put in a separate category to romcoms, but technically, they would probably be more prevalent. While i am here let me just recommend a great romance manhwa "whats wrong with with you duke". Since i am too lazy to write an essay about it let me just drop a my animelist review for you I don't ever remember how I found this manwha, but this plot is really something else. Going against the flow "i reincarnated and whatever", it was nice to see something diferent. I admit, the start was very sudden. Erin, our main character, almost gets killed by duke Rowan in a war. However, a magic circle appears out of nowhere, attending Erin's wish to stay alive and she ends up getting married to said duke. What surprised me was to see that one year has passed since that moment, but really, that's when the story really begins. Because after one year, the magic starts to fade, and the real Rowan, the one who is annoyed for having his free will taken from him by a spell, starts to show up more. And damn, that guy is great. He tries to regain his life while Erin tries to find ways to reinforce the magic and not be killed. The manwha has a great pacing, with a slow burn relationship. It's great seeing Erin starting to fall from the real Rowan, not the "perfect" and clingy Lex of her dreams. And is even greater to read Rowan falling for the one he once hated so much. Rowand is strong and determined, while Erin is gentle and despite not being very smart, at least has good instinct regarding certain people. So, why didn't I gave this the maximum score? Well, the story takes a great turn. The plot twist was really great and surprised me so much, that I couldn't stop reading until I finished. However, it should had endend in a certain part of the story. After that, was a cute story, but I felt like Rowan personality changed so much. So, that was a great and fun read. Fully recommend.

I'm currently only 20 or so chapters in, and so far I agree with all your points. However, I'm not a fan of Chinatsu. At the time, I feel like she has base level writing, with little to no development so far. I'm much more inclined towards the implied ship of Taiki and Hina, since her writing seems to be just as deep, but I also feel like she's actually had character development. Additionally, I'm not a big fan of anime and manga that take forever for at least one couple to get together already, I'm hoping it happens soon. Overall, better than most romance Shounen manga/anime, but not quite on the level of the ones I actually like.

I enjoy my Shoujo romances a lot more not just because I’m the target demographic and the art is lovely but because so many characters feel real. The girls have different unique personalities and the leading guys are often very sweet or have their own special quirks to go with our leading lady and start a wonderful relationship. Shonen romance can be alright as well it’s just that one too many harems or boobs and ass can get old REALLY fast. This looks like it’s definitely my cup of tea and I’d also love to read it ❤

Been reading this series since the day it came out. It's surprising to see so many people describe it as "underrated." I agree that this series hasn't gotten its full attention yet, but I so many rate it highly that I wouldn't call it underrated. An anime adaptation is the final piece needed for publicity. I promise, once this series gets an anime, it won't just be a hit. It will be a sensation and set a new standard for romance series in the future.

As a girl who really loves 'my dress up darling' I feel like you did it dirty with only putting the fan service scenes in this video xD it resonated with me on so many levels that it almost felt like a shoujo because it was also written with Marin perspectives a lot of times. It's so much more than fan service

Hey man thanks for the recommendation, this video was popping in my recommendation for a week then I decide to give chance and this Manga really really hooked me up, right now only 110 chapters is released and I'm looking forward to it, and about what you said old rom-com anime/manga are really fading out I my self want to make a video about this topic, I'm really glad there are people who really think that the rom-com genre is really dying maybe dying is not the best word but changing...

Another phenomenal romance manga in my opinion is “The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity”. Its a really wholesome read with a few dramatic moments. Its early into its story, only 79 chapters in, so if you want another romance manga that in my opinion is really wholesome then you should read it.

Some comments already mentioned that some of the manga shown in the video as shoujo are not actually shoujo so I just a have a couple notes. First, in 0:24 a more correct term would be demographic; and second, that you may also mention josei and seinen to cover better the spectrum of romance anime/manga (from what I know, Kaguya sama is actually a seinen). Also 10:10 you probably shouldn’t worry to much about this getting axed because I think that this manga is selling very well in japan, but my only source there is a Super Eyepatch Wolf video.

The fact that this is realistic and also the drama in this manga happened to me once. Thats where it hit me the most, even you rejecting someone and still be great friends brings me back home even if its not that so long of a past for me. It just feels too relatable.

05:35 I think there's a lot of romance anime but half of it is not shoujo,(and people mostly don't notice this because the impressions of shoujo is mostly romance for example horimiya and skip to loafer is not shoujo) the titles you mentioned were all shoujo so that might be the reason Also wanted to say I'm really really happy that a guy is recommending romance manga since there's some stereotypes of men liking action and women liking Romance so it was refreshing to Watch you ❤❤❤❤
@H3artEyes. Жыл бұрын
yea i tried doing research on the anime i showcased in this vid on whether or not they were shonen or shojo but the line is so blurred i’ll just let the smart people correct me in the comments like yourself 😅 and also MEN NEED TO WATCH MORE ROMANCE

@@H3artEyes. it's totally ok! And it's mostly because of marketing that a series end up in sounein or shoujo, also I wanna recommend " loving yamada kun at lv999" it's airing this season and I hope you like it

"Domestic Girlfriend" has got to be the most underrated romance Manga ever, on the surface it might come out as a trashy manga about stepsibling's romance, but when you dwell deeper into it you realize that there is so much more to it, is full of live lessons about love and maturity, reflected by both sisters personalities, one being selfless and the other selfish. And the fact that so many rooted for the selfish love to win at the end, goes to show the lack of understanding of this manga got, specially among western teenagers.

It was a good call to explain the differences but it feels like you failed to bring up there is a spectrum of this shojo and shonen system. Dress up darling for example seems to be about Gojo at first, but quickly both characters get equal time and the plot does play out more shojo like while using the cosplay and Marin’s weird interests for fanservice and male wish fulfillment. And many series do this. There are more comical shojos that don’t care about emotions as much like Nozaki kun
@H3artEyes. Жыл бұрын
wow i didn’t even THINK of explaining it with the idea of a spectrum 😅 thats honestly such a better way of putting it than i did, thnx for the feedback!

coming back to this where people were unhappy with the balance I feel like now more than ever the balance is great between sports and romance.. this series slams I just reread it to give myself an actual opinion ( something I'm barely able to do when I'm reading it weekly ) and the series is even better than I remember. Blue Box is fantastic people should read it and the slow start is gonna pay off in the end.
