Wednesday would have decided suddenly she wanted to be a fairy in pastels and glitter and the real Morticia would have openly happily welcomed it and said “oh darling.” She’s the type of parent that even if it isn’t her choice, she’d still support her kids.
@pinkypey10 3 жыл бұрын
In the Addams Family Broadway edition, Wednesday suddenly decides to wear yellow to welcome her fiancé’s parents. Mortica doesn’t like it because it was a shocker to her when she was greeting their guests. She never says “don’t wear it” she just says “I won’t have that color in my house.” And “we don’t wear bright colors because it makes you blend in with everyone else.” I feel like because Wednesday was always really young, she just agreed with her parent’s beliefs. But now that she is older, we have to see some classic mother daughter teenage clash over stupid things, but these reasons are bizarre reasons. The original creator of Addams family wanted the character’s to be the opposite of a normal family. So think of a religious families kid suddenly wearing goth clothes, they would flip. Now flip that around and you get a crazy family with a kid wearing “normy” clothes. So this was spot on for Mortica, just executed poorly and handled horribly.
@daylightbright7675 2 жыл бұрын
They're supposed to be like everyone else, just flipped around lmao. They were meant to be the complete opposite of what's considered "normal." So if most people like bright colours and cute things, they don't. Most people don't like hurting other people, hating others or death, so they do. But despite this they've NEVER been accepting of their children trying out "normal" styles or hobbies, mainly because then they'd be just like everyone else. It's supposed to be funny because why would a parent encourage their children to be so straight up weird in the eyes of most people? The whole point of their story as a whole is self acceptance and not being afraid to be different. Which is highlighted by Wednesday dressing how she likes despite what her family thinks.

I really feel like what made the original Addams such goals is that they were confident; nothing other people did shook them or made them insecure or afraid. Heck, if people wanted to raid them I don't think they would have minded too much, considering they admired their ancestors for being burned at stake, or Morticia being kidnapped or Uncle Fester being duped into marriage etc. They could disagree with other people's opinions or tastes but they were just so UNTOUCHABLE literally you couldn't get through to them.
@AngelEmfrbl 3 жыл бұрын
@@shogunspear9739 I don't think the problem is similar to the movies, the issue is that Wednesday would never do this because it would never occur to her to do this. In most media, the Addams aren't even aware that their not "normal". So Wednesday wouldn't even think about changing her look, as she wouldn't see there is a issue with how she looks to begin with. To them, their normal.

Morticia would have been more concerned that her daughter was wearing pink to "fit in" better with the other girls, not simply because she wants to wear pink. The Addams have always been about full hearted support of one another, no matter how strange their family members may be.

The movie's message would of come across a lot stronger if Mortician had just been loving and accepting like she should be. In the old TV show Lugsly went through a boy scout phase and his parents were worried but let him do what he wanted to. In the movie when Pubert turned into a blond blue eyed normal baby, they were upset but adjusted and still put in the effort to be loving parents. This movie feels like if somebody heard about the Addams family second hand and wrote a movie on what they think they're like.

I think realistically this scene would go more like: Wednesday: (slightly nervous) mother, how do i look? Morticia: Oh darling, you look beautiful Wednesday: you're not mad? Morticia: of course not, it's personally not my style but if it makes you happy, it's perfect Wednesday: (smiles a little)

Doing all that seems to point to caring about and accepting him, if not completely, than significantly. If he couldn’t have been cured I’m sure that they would have continued to try to keep him as happy and comfortable as possible. What... the- The POINT is that the Addams family is weird because they _like_ it and don't feel constricted about expressing what they like, even if it's seen by society as bizarre or too macabre. It's not that they tell their kids they CAN'T like traditional _normy_ stuff, just that they don't deter them from exploring and indulge in their darker impulses. REGARDLESS of what Morticia or Gomez personally like. While they want their children too be happy, they know that happiness comes from... _letting them do what makes them happy._ aye yai yai!

They would never be ones to force their beliefs onto their children, but encourage them to explore. Everyone in this movie is so out of character, it’s just weird. If you watch the movies and shows you find out they don’t hate these things and wouldn’t act like that if Wednesday looked like that. The might not support it but they would keep it to their selfs. It’s just this movie that makes it look different then what it really is. An example of this is in Adams Family Values where Debby (the fake evil nanny) tells Gomez and Trish that the kids wanted to go to summer camp. They actually didn’t she just didn’t want them there. But they were fine with it and took them. I’m sad they made the Adams act this way.

@@catkin8330 pink actually used to be considered a boys colour because it’s the diluted version of red which was a mans colour due to its association with confidence and aggression. Blue was a girls colour because it was commonly associated with the Virgin Mary. I think the biggest problem mortica had with pink was it came out of no where. Wednesday never should much interest and then out of know where she changed her interest and likes. I think all parents would worry. If she liked that stuff sinse childhood they probably would have just grin and bore it.
@lilchaos9212 3 жыл бұрын
especially since the child just moved to a new place and may be being pressured to be like everyone else and is just sticking a brave face on and pretending to be happy with it. While people's interests can change if they find friends to enjoy stuff with, it's not healthy for someone to change everything about themselves so others will like them.
@neroblack2704 3 жыл бұрын
The problem with the movie is that Morticia and Gomez acted so unlike Morticia and Gomez. Morticia is calm and collected, she treats her kids (especially Wednesday) as tiny adults not dumb kids so she would have told Wednesday that she was worried and explained why expecting Wednesday to understand and explain her standpoint in turn. Gomez is supposed to be suave as fuck, instead he looks but far worse he ACTS like a stout little gremlin.
@shonascott5499 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she wasn't being out of character by not caring about her daughter and being angry at her acting "normal". She KNEW her daughter and recognised that Wednesday might have been trying to fit in and that she wasn't happy or actually being true to who she was just to fit in with other people. Any parent would be worried that their child suddenly changes everything about themself to fit in with others so suddenly, especially in a new place while also distancing themself from their parents.

I think something I really liked about the Adams was the way they would “worry” or get upset. It’s like they are super self aware, but extremely care free so they don’t really act upon their anger. So that’s why whenever something was out of the ordinary, they would think it’s weird, but they would support it. I feel like they missed that whole vibe, which is what made me love the Adams to begin with.. The thing that rlly made me love Morticia was her very elegant but soft personality, and this movie just seems like a character that is trying to be that. Adams are not self aware of what they are lol, which is what makes it funny.

@theshillneckedlizard8364 Жыл бұрын
Pink was originally a boy's colour back in the 15th century, as it was a milder version of warrior's red. Blue was originally the 'girl' colour, as it was the colour of the Virgin Mary's robes. The colours only got swapped from WWI onward.

This reboot is definitely different than the original characters but I think a lot of people are overlooking what the film is dealing with. So I apologise for the following part but I want people to see the ingenuity in this film as I believe this reboot stands next to the original adaptations of the Addams Family in its own unique variance. The Addams parents are hunted by a society that treats them differently and they essentially become secluded in New Jersey in their new home to the point that a literal fog causes the Addams Family to miss Assimilation’s existence. In this seclusion they find safety and love each other’s company so they raise their children to be like themselves because they believe it to be the safest course of action for them. But this causes their children to stray away from them: Pugsley fails the sabre muzurka and Wednesday wants to be like “everyone else”, wearing pink clothes and pins. The interesting thing as well is that this is also reflected on the antagonist’s (Margaux) family life as she tries to make everyone else like her including her own daughter for the money from the show. This is so she can have an easier life by looking after her daughter and her “Neighbourhood Peeps” but does this in a very corrupt manner. At the film’s climax when Margaux brings war to the Addams Family, both the parents on both sides realise their mistakes of their parenting. The Addams let their children be themselves after seeing their self-imprinting on to them has failed. This is because they can protect themselves as well as others like Wednesday with the tree and detective skills, as well as Pugsley’s demolition muzurka as he protects his family from the collapsing house. On the other side, Margaux makes the town like herself but when she is revealed and that her actions have caused more harm than good she falls apart. Then Uncle Fester offers to help despite their recent little war and both families come together to find sanctuary through unity and individualism in the town of Assimilation. So by the end of the film, both families love each other and accept themselves for who they are. Also, the reason why I know Margaux is doing this for safety in sanctuary is because when her daughter points out the flowers are plastic Margaux replies “plastic lives forever dear”. This is implying that if she makes everything as fake and dull as plastic is, it’ll never have to go as nature does hence Assimilation’s primary goal: assimilate everyone to save everyone because Margaux “helps people”. Her name even means “pearl” in french and that has symbolism of perfection and incorruptibility despite the process a pearl takes to have its beauty. This film is definitely different than the original but that doesn’t mean the film is bad. In fact, I think the film is a lot more clever than people give it credit for as it is it’s own film in the line of Addams Family features. The film has good jokes for both kids and adults but it significantly has a wholesome truth at its heart. That truth is to love yourself as much as you love your family while staying true to yourself against adversary. And this truth has always been at the heart of any and all Addams Family films.

I completely agree! I hate to offend anyone, but this movie is the first one I've seen of the Addams Family, and I really liked it. I keep seeing people putting this down, and while I can sort of understand why it's hated so much, I don't think this is a bad movie at all. Maybe they're a bit out of character, which is something I wouldn't know as I never looked at Addams Family medias before, but the message of the movie was pretty good. It was satisfying to me. The movie was charming in its own way. 'Course, this is just my opinion. I just feel kind of alone, and bad for liking the movie while everyone else seems to hate it lol Oh well.

Does anyone remember the 1991-93 Animated Series?
