I love how, if you think about it, at the end of the day, Merle and Pan REALLY line up in terms of their competence at this stage. I know Pan later on turns out to be this genuinely amazing almost Doctor Who type part of Merle's life, no spoilers (kinda), but right here? They're both displaying a level of "Look, we're HERE, we're TRYING, that should be plenty."
