In a housing crisis. Because even though she has a house for her family, she wants THIS house (which isn’t even good, it’s literally falling apart). So when grandma dies we’re going to be homeless because even with combined incomes, we can’t find a house or even an APARTMENT. Not to mention we have ONE car in a family of six, and my uncle uses it multiple times a week to go to chemo and doctors appointments and shit. Town is 8 miles away and there’s no sidewalks or anything. We don’t even have public transport. We have ONE public bus and it’s for the elderly. Town is where all the jobs are. Can’t get a job without reliable transportation (car is gone days in a row, sometimes all day). We’re TRYING to find a place, but no matter what we do, something goes wrong. After over a decade in the same rental home- where the owner herself was our landlord- when she wanted to sell I was so, so, SO nieve about what I was in for. The rental market is as horrible as described. My husband and I both work full time, as well as having second jobs. Credit alone became the problem and we were homeless for over month. We ended up in a place that is MORE rent than I ever paid- totaling almost 80% of our take home pay when we factor utilities- including the lease requiring we pay sewer, trash and other things that are impossible for us to verify in our multi unit house. Our new place has conditions that I’m embarrassed to even share. We have a corporate management company that won’t address things like mold and caving floors, pest problems et. We learned the hard way that there are not the resources out there that people assume there are for homeless families, nor many protections for renters who find themselves in the conditions we now find ourselves. It’s sad and I thank you for this video.

Just know you aren't alone, I know that's so stupid and unhelpful to say, but I often struggle with the hopelessness and it feels like we're the only ones with nothing, and actually it's not the case at all; so many others are here too. That should be depressing and add even more hopelessness but, for me, it doesn't do that, it actually gives me some kind of comfort. Others understand and don't judge or look down on us. Others wouldn't mock our house or my clothes with holes in them. Others, like you, would listen and then also have the courage to share their own struggles...and all of that just helps in a small way. Maybe I'm just rambling now lol, but still, it's worth saying I think. I'm so proud of you for surviving this absolute shitshow. I really am. You could make it into more of a dormitory/communal living area, but not everyone is keen to that idea (American individualism and all that). And I think you’re right, how could I have worked towards a difference without knowing about the root cause of the issue? I only know one homeless man. As in, have had conversations with him. I find him kind, and I tell myself that it is because I’m a “money-less” student that I am not helping him more than I have (I hold on to the idea that my privilege has not desensitized me). Unfortunately for my understanding of the homelessness issue, this man did indeed find himself in that situation because of substance abuse, and then he was ostracized by his family. I still had compassion for him, but I’m only now realizing that his story reinforced the stereotypes of my subconscious. So thank you for posting this. May Jesus guard you.

Sometimes it's difficult to type here on KZbin. I notice today I'm having difficulty. I chose to advocate for #MedicareForAll because I didn't think I could conquer the world. But I did think I could stand up for one thing. Healthcare seemed to me to be the one thing that would help everyone. If I could have gotten help when I was 20, maybe I wouldn't be on disability now. Out there are 20 year olds, and folks and children of every age, who would live better lives if they had access to uninterrupted healthcare. Anyone want to join me, you know the hashtag.

The rent sadly takes half of my paycheck, and its still on the lower end of rent costs here, which tells you why I had such a hard time ever finding a place in this city. I hopped air bnbs and sublets for a year, I tried to get roommates but whenever I found a good group I couldn't live with them because I don't have a guarantor and can't afford the third party services. In all honesty, once my time is up in this residence, I will prob have to fly back to my hometown and live with my parents until they die because there isn't another option. to see my parents constantly struggling to keep up with COL, and i can’t do anything to help because i work part time (i’m a minor), makes me feel so guilty and helpless, even if it’s not my fault. it’s so hard to live nowadays and i can’t help but to wish i were rich. it’s ironic how my mother told me the amount of money she’s making is the most she ever made, yet, her paycheck can barely keep her on her feet :c

The solution is to build high population density high rise residential cities within commuter distance of existing cities. Such cities should mostly consist of high rise market rate condominiums and rent controlled high rise apartments. But trying to build significantly more housing within already over populated cities is a complete waste of time.

"put unreasonable costs and burdens upon property owners without compensation" Yeah, like, nobody wants the property owners to be losing money and going broke. That's waaayy more important than everybody else who has "unreasonable costs and burdens...without compensation". Funny thing though, didn't all them property owners have a choice to own property, and get all the risks and benefits too???

All the people I know who own a house like me (although I’m older than these ladies in the video) are MARRIED! I hear a lot of I, what about we? It’s seems like for centuries we spoke French when times got hard.. people much be too privileged today.

This is about governmental total control of the people. Another introduction to implementing the MARK! REVELATIONS 13- [16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

If i could afford to leave the US i would do it in a heartbeat. It is absurd that everything is such a struggle. Like literally having a space to live is becoming a luxury now. The united states should change its name to Hell.

I dunno, I know a lot of ppl who blow all their money on big trips, fancy cars, music festivals, daily Starbucks, designer clothes, avocado toast weekend brunches and crap like LV bags and Stanley cups all to show off on social media. I work 2 jobs, still drive a 2010 Honda but I was able to pay off my student loans and buy my house in cash in a nice middle class neighborhood by the time I was 35. It can be done. You just have to prioritize.
@jduncan46379 ай бұрын
This is not it. I am in my late 20s - most of my friends have decent jobs, yet none of them is able to afford to buy a house. They'd have to leave the city and the entire area of the country in order to afford somewhere to live, which would decrease their salaries significantly. People don't have the money to save. Just in the past year, I moved to a different city where the rent was half, in order to try to save money on living costs. The average rent where I am has now gone, in *one year* from 600 per month to 1100 per month. My wages have not doubled. This is serious.

That is absolute nonsense. You can work fulltime, be renting, need to have a $12,000 deposit for a house, have no vacations, no avocado toast (🙄) no extras after payday, and unless you have generational wealth or earn anything other than the average salary, nobody is paying a home in cash. It's not buying a $40 Stanley that's the problem when you need $750k for a 4 bedroom house.

I’ve given up in idea of becoming a millionaire from listening to self help gurus lol. I have to face reality that buying a house will be impossible for a long time.
