Trent bro as a man who’s trying to build his own mental health support organisation for men thank you for raising awareness of the topic. I’d love to work or get any advice off yourself or others. This is future captain stuff. Trent is a gem. To be this aware of how lucky he is, and not to forget about those who didn't quite make it is a credit to his upbringing. As a lifelong Liverpool supporter, he embodies everything I want to see in my club. These conversations are so important. Every player who has made it owes something to those who didn't. There's no youth systems without players who don't make it in the professional game, these kids need to be looked after. To have that much pressure on you at a young age, sometimes at the cost of your education outside of football, and then to have that suddenly pulled away is devestating. Chances are that nothing that big will have happened to these lads at the age they were dropped, and they won't have had the emotional framework to deal with it properly. Hopefully conversations like this and Trent's foundation will bring about a massive change in how the youth system deals with kids who don't make it. YNWA.

As a Liverpool fan in South Africa, who's completely obsessed with Trent, I've often looked at his childhood photos wearing a LFC jersey and thought to myself "this boy probably knows nothing else but LFC and football" (not in a negative way, but as my limited knowledge of his personal life).. I then compared him to Steven Gerrard and thought that he was identical in his development and exposure (again, with my limited knowledge of their personal lives).. The thought made me uncomfortable with where I imaged they'd end up as people, just because I've come to love them so much as a fan of theirs.. This video showed me that what i imaged was actually not only accurate, but worse in terms of the plight of players that don't make it.. However, it also shows me that the players, especially Trent for me, is keenly aware of what he doesn't know and is ready to change that, not only for himself, but for others.. That makes me so relieved and happy to see.. If it does that for me, 20,000km away as just a fan, i can only image what those affected may be feeling about it.. Good on you Trent.. You're a man of extremely high quality.. Much younger than me, but I'm inspired everyday by you from half way across the globe.. #YNWA

Really important conversation. I see a lot of similarities here between people leaving high level sports and people leaving the military. I think in both situations people are almost institutionalised and their vocation becomes their identity. I hope we can support these young people into becoming valuable assets to society even outside of their first choice careers. Thanks all for having and sharing this conversation 👏

Just stumbled on this gem of a conversation. Huge congrats to Trent and the team for putting this together. A lot of young boys/girls going into football or already in academies need to hear this. It would also be good to hear from the clubs perspective. Why don't they do these things? Is it financial? Is it staffing? Is it logistics? It seems only right that young folks that give a good portion of their young years are looked after in the event it doesn't pan out.

Such a beautiful initiative that recognises something that is most often left out . We grow up thinking we can be a footballer , or a doctor, or a lawyer...and when those dreams come to a sudden halt after years of dedication , we are often left with nothing, or at least that is what it looks like. Especially when it comes to sports like football, mental health is often considered a weakness , or a lack of quality and for that very reason...I appreciate what you have done . This should be an inspiration for not just football ...but for all those who feel left out after their dreams ended or ....did they ?? In the end...whatever tag we wear (footballer, academy player, doctor , lawyer , engineer) is the result of what we are as a person , and it is not what defines us or our potential.

Lovely to hear Trent open up this way, feels like he doesn't talk about his early personal life much beyond general remarks about his community. Though from body language, it's easy to tell he's still holding back a lot he wants to reveal--he's often got arms crossed tightly over his chest (protecting the heart) and fingers close to his lips and head (keeping words inside the mouth and mind). I hope one day he feels safe and strong enough to share what he feels like he needs to hide aloud, and release any shame or tension or fear around that.

That’s going to be very difficult for some as their dreams have just been shattered and they don’t know where to go or who to turn to.
