In my country, it is believed that choosing a burial place for someone who is still alive will shorten that person's life and bring bad luck. However, Maria Theresa acts as if she were doing something ordinary like having breakfast when choosing a burial place for herself. I think that for her, her personal life ended with Francis' death. From now on, she will only live for her state.

it is customary for royals to do so

Well if you want to rest in the same place as your spouse, and your spouse dies before you, you have to go through the terrible process of choosing a burial place for yourself, and for your deceased spouse ☹

Many Royals & Rulers plan far in advance. Even building their final resting place before they are even close to thinking about their own death. Because it often took many years for the designers and craftsmen. And if they did die before their tombs were finished they often got something completely different. And often far less Elborate and Expensive. 😬

It was a reoccuring theme of the baroque era to think about death. For nobles and wealthy citizens in that time, it was not that uncommon in that time to plan their funerals ahead and make arrangements for your burial place in your lifetime.

Technically, Joseph had a more reformist vision than Leopold

he was very idealist and at the end accomplished nothing leopold was more practical

I mean, it wasn't really out of personal choice but what tradition demanded of Western widows

Well, also because Leopold was a young man when his father died, he only cared about the state money.

I don't know, Leopold was always less idealistic then Joseph, Which in my mind made him a better emperor than his brother. Which explains why he doesn't burn his father's papers.

@@נעםמרקוביץ Yup, Also he learned more about being less idealistic while he was in Florence ruling as grand Duke of Tuscany.

@@sebastianazocar2368 he was with no doubt a good grand Duke, but he wasn't likable because of his cold temper, he was very practical person by all means, and he knew his brother's reforms were too much, so he went slowly and stop the radical of his brother's reforms. He and his younger brother Ferdinand were the one's who kept the Habsburg's name go on to the next centuries to come.

Joseph being an enlightened monarch from day one 🥺❤️
@Lily1127channel3 ай бұрын
Maria Theresa was also an enlightened absolutist monarch like Joseph, just this tv series doesn't do her justice. Doesn't include her most important reforms, like the Urbarium, Ratio Educationis, etc

@@Lily1127channel I know she was very revolutionary in her own right, the best women in history by far ❤️❤️. I am a Habsburg Historian, I specialize with Joseph and Maria. I just love Joseph so much I've written so many papers on him hes my historical obsession. 😂🇦🇹❤️ Also i love your videos! I can't find the show in America so this is how i watch it.

It's my understanding that he left the family very well off. He was a genius at handling money.
@JohnKirwan-zp5flАй бұрын
I wonder what portion of this money the family controlled personally in 1919?? Do they still have a fortune behind them? Other very interesting thing about Francis Stephen is that he agreed to the handing over of his Lorraine duchy to the French even if his mother was born one!!!!

i have been to the Hapsburg tombs in vienna and was quite underwhelmed. Pomp for pomp's sake is a pointless waste of life.
