When it comes to an arc by arc comparison I pretty much enjoy Hunter X Hunter 1999 and Hunter X Hunter 2011 equally. I prefer the 1999 version of the Hunter Exam because of the greater amount of story put into the arc, such as the introduction of Gon, Leorio, alongside the island escape during the hunter exam. The Zoldyck arcs are pretty much equal for me with 1999 better showcasing what happened when Killua went back home, while 2011 better showcases Killua's relationship with Canary. I prefer 2011's Heavens Arena arc a lot over the 1999 counterpart, mostly due to how the fights were paced and shown. In 1999 Kastro's fight is pretty much glanced at, and Hisoka's fight with Gon happens early making the other fights that were build up to Hisoka's fight feel superfluous. I will say the 1999 version of Heavens Arena does add some good characterization to Killua, but outside of that the whole structure to the arc feels flawed. Phantom Troupe is where my favoritism towards 1999 returns, the artistic direction of this arc in 1999 was beautiful, and several times it felt like it enhances the story. It is hard to express that without an on hand visual reference, but I at least know I'm not alone in this opinion. Greed Island however goes back towards 2011, there were a few small details here and there I like about the 1999 version of Greed Island, but the major stand out moments from this arc, The Dodgeball competition, and Genthru vs Gon, were simply handled better in 2011. With that, there's a pretty even divide on each arc, and I only really declare myself preferring 2011 because it has 2 additional arcs.

Absolutely. In terms of how these two adaptations take their creative liberty in the material, it's certainly has its up and downs.

hey Mathwiz I'm a trans girl, and I just wanted to say that you were one of the few trans people that I knew existed when I was having the most trouble with my gender. so I just wanted to thank you for being yourself. seeing that someone like you was trans really helped me normalize transness in my mind and helped me stop feeling like a freak because I wasn't cis. I hope things are going well for you! 💜

Hey, can I ask whether you have seen *_“stars align“_* ? It s a really great anime which covers different topics such as trauma, abuse, lgbtqia+ (mainly on the t and g and q part here), tennis and reaction/consequences of childhood trauma. The anime is pretty short and underrated for its awesomeness, I d be coo if you could perhaps make a review about it >3 (Of course you don t have to)

Great year, I really liked most videos and a fair few of them were also successful, kind of a shame about the Kurapika vs Gon video that deserves to be well over 100k views, it's great and tackeling all the core stuff in HxH in a really succinct manner. I feel like the Jobber video could have maybe used a sentence or two explaining the situations Kaito excels in, I had read the arc recently because of the Nen Show, but I think if I had not I might have been lost, because you basically need to know the rules of the situations to appreciate what he does. The Trans Characters video was honestly pretty popular 132k views and there is well-below 10% dislikes so I think the toxic commenters are definitively a very vocal, but very small minority. Honestly I think the video still holds up well overall, without really a need to redo it imo. Speaking of transphobic shonen Bleach is honestly pretty yikes in that regard. I think you might have forgotten due to tuning out during the 1000 Year Blood War, but Giselle is a Sternritter who presents as female, but is biologically male, which is said with: "you reek of cum" by Yumichika, she infects people with her blood to turn them into zombies and rapes one of the zombies Bambietta Basterbine, a former Sternritter colleague. Just mentioning it because with the last arc now apparently getting an anime those are probably scenes that will come up in shonen trans discussion.
