So funny that NL is correct about what is known as continental Europe, and Lud (as a self-proclaimed French and Swedisy person) is just like "Isn't is all Europe? Isn't Sweden part of the main continent?" So Scandinavia is technically connected to the continent via the bridges and tunnel from Denmark to Sweden, but in ancient times before they built those bridges, if you wanted to walk to Sweden, you'd have to either wait for the North Sea or Baltic Sea to freeze over at the narrowest points, or you'd need to go through Russia and then the wilderness in Finland. Like the Romans knew that Scandinavia existed, but they thought it was just a huge island, because there was no reason to ever go far enough north to find the land crossing. So yes, Scandinavians refer to the rest the of the continent as "The Continent". Even funnier, I think there's enough rivers and lakes around the point where the Peninsula connects to the rest of the continent, that a determined individual might be able to find a string of rivers and lakes that actually runs from the White Sea to the Baltic Sea
