By the way, the Luftfaust concept lived for quite a long time - in 1966, the Kolos anti-aircraft missile system was developed in the USSR, which was created as a "cheap, universal remedy against American helicopters and lightly armored vehicles." According to the results of tests that took place in 1967, the weapon was found to be effective in hitting unarmored and armored targets at a distance of up to 2 kilometers; in terms of effectiveness, each projectile was equal to the projectile of a 37-mm anti-aircraft gun. The complex was also very cheap to manufacture - one installation cost only 36 rubles, and a block of shells - 31 rubles (for comparison - at the prices of 1967, a bicycle cost 60 rubles). But in the end, Kolos lost to the Strela-2 MANPADS.

Not the main reason. It was designed as a *man-portable* surface-to-air unguided missile system against ground attack planes. You know... like one soldier can transport it, unlike 16,000 lb anti-aircraft guns. That's like saying the U.S. Infantry is equiped with man-portable SAMs because the U.S. can't produce Patriot systems.

@@JanFWeh No. It was a much cheaper, faster to produce alternative to larger AA Guns. Because when this was developed, Germany was in a very bad position: Late 1944 with most factories destroyed and with the very few still operative busy building vehicles, they had a shortage of artillery pieces and especially a shortage of well trained crews. The fliegerfaust was supposed to solve both of the issues.

It'd be neat to see the Fliegerfaust A in more games, the only one I can think of is the WW2 Collection mod on Ravenfield. It's just entertaining to image essentially just four panzerfausts crudely welded together. Granted it was significantly more rare than the B model.

I'm like... 90% sure all the rockets would either fire in succession, or in a volley when you pull the trigger. Because you have a greater chance of actually scoring a hit on a low-flying aircraft.

Two salvos of missiles in quick succession. First four missiles from every other barrel immediately and 0,2 seconds later the remaining five missiles. (The delay was meant to prevent the projectiles from getting damaged by the previous launches' exhaust fumes, which could also interfere with their courses.)

I always thought that was an anti-tank weapon when I first saw it. It got me saying "why kill a tank with one rocket when you can kill it with more rockets? (Not sure how effective it is against tank of that era.)

Not effective at all, it’s just using a 20mm flak round for the warhead. Even if it hit a plane it it would take more than one round to kill.

@@shadowtrooper262 By the time this thing was around those lightly armored vehicles would be pretty rare to see at the front. I don't think it would penetrate even those though because like he said they either use a 20mm Minengeschoß round with a rocket attached or a 30mm rocket depending on which version it is. They were both explosive though and wouldn't penetrate past a few millimeters because they're not supposed to. It might at least stun up an infantry position though if not kill or wound a couple guys

In the german Military they call the Stinger “fliegerfaust 2”
