ex girlfriend introduced me to this band and this song when we dated. relationship ended badly, my fault honestly- shitty communication and a ""friend"" of mine chose to make things worse (he would never say, but I think it was on purpose, they hated each others guts, she was right to hate him though and I wish i would've never ran into him again in highschool) and being young and stupid I just kinda hid than ran. Came back to this song for the first time in years and nearly started crying.

I think it’s about this girl that just keeps using him for her own pleasure but he still can’t get enough of her, hence the reference to Greek mythology in “crashing upon her rocks”, akin to a siren or mermaid, and then being harmed.

I see it as a really bad relationship. All they do is hit each other and are so ready to call it quits but then makeup with sex and think it’s gonna get better but it’s a toxic cycle and they will never make it to the end of the aisle
