The Aircraft Series | Nanchang CJ-6 vs Yakovlev YAK-52 | Wings Wheels and Warbirds 2019

My research tells us that these planes are not at all similar, all though their roots are both from the YAK-18.
The Chinese Nanchang CJ-5 was made under license based on the Russian YAK-18.

Are these aircrafts prone to stalling? Can you even make sharp turns? Been looking at wwii propeller planes which apparently all had at least 1000hp engines. The 200-300hp engines on these planes look scarily underpowered.

Horsepower has no bearing on stalling, otherwise a glider would never fly. There are many WWII aircraft that had less than 1,000 hp...Stearman, Waco, PT-19, PT-22, T-6, T-28A just to name a few. The Yak and CJ are post WWII models (1958 - current) and are more advanced than their WWII predecessors. The Yak-52 was designed as an aerobatic trainer and is capable of flying a full competition aerobatic sequence including sustained inverted flight. It has plenty of power for its weight and wing design. The Nanchang can do most positive G aerobatics, but was designed more as a basic trainer. The Nancang is much more stable and forgiving as is evident in the difference in the wing design.
