I'm glad to see these videos. Aggressive grey squirrels, here in the Ozarks, are also a nuisance. They have decimamated the red squirrel, the fox squirrels, and the flying squirrels populations. Not to mention the bird nest and trees that they have destroyed. Don't get me started on the building damages! At least mydog and I can eat them. Great job of editing. You're videos are very well put together.

Another great pest control session there, but can I ask @Rich Saunders why you carry your rifle in your arms, why not use a sling for hands-free carry, especially with a heavier day & night scope on board? Happy Christmas & all the best for a happy & healthy 2022. 👍🤞 Cheers. Russ

Seems a bit baity to shoot em off feeders. I enjoy squirrel hunting very much, delicious meat great tail fur for tying flies for fishing. To each their own. Thanks for sharing.
@richsaunders65153 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. Nothing beats feeders when it comes to squirrel control. The trees in the woods are grown for their lumber value, so keeping the numbers in check has a direct benefit to the landowner's bottom line. And you saw how 'successful' I was when trying a roving approach!

Hey are you using a 177 or 22 you didn’t give that information at the start. I’m looking to buy one of these but having a massive debate I will be using it for the same purposes.
@richsaunders65152 жыл бұрын
Hi James. Its a .22. I find that when shooting rats and squirrels most of my shots are between 8 and 20m. With a .22 rifle zeroed at 20m I can aim on for shots in that range with one mildot of holdover at 30m. By contrast, I find a .177 zeroed at 20m is on at 20 and 30 but requires aim off at less than 20. As a result, I prefer .22 for rat and squirrel shooting. I hope that helps.

Hi Ian. Its a Bushwear TP. I put a link in but KZbin took it out again. Easy enough to find if you search for it. About £75...Rich.

How do you get permission to shoot here
@richsaunders65153 жыл бұрын
Now there's a question! Getting a permission can be difficult. This video might help you out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5mbhqCJq8-AorM Good luck!
@philchapman94843 жыл бұрын
Why do you shoot the squirrels is there a reason
@richsaunders65153 жыл бұрын
Hi Phil. Thanks for the question as I neglected to explain that in the video. There are a number of reasons why I control them: 1) Grey squirrels strip bark from trees, damaging the wood and even killing limbs and entire trees. That might not be a problem in woods left to grow wild, but on the permission in the film the wood is grown for its lumber value, so scarred wood and dead trees costs money. 2) Grey squirrels are an invasive species introduced by the Victorians from north America to make London parks more interesting. That's not the squirrels' fault though, but as a result, they have decimated the native red squirrel population both by carrying a disease (squirrel pox) and by our out-competing them for food. 3) Grey squirrels are harmful to other native species; they predate on song bird eggs and chicks and they are also highly tolerant of tannins. As a result, they are able to eat fruit, nuts and berries before they are ripe, denying them to other species like the dormouse and field mouse that rely on them when they come out of hibernation. In fact, I understand that one of the main causes of the decline of field and dormice is the fact that grey squirrels eat all the hazel nuts before the mice wake up. Finally, all the squirrels I shoot are taken to a bird of prey centre to feed the hawks, eagle and owls. I hope that helps. Have a great Christmas.

I THINK THAT KILLING ANIMALS IN THE WOODS IS TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER THEY ARE IN THEIR OWN HABITAT AND NOT HARMING ANYONE YOU ARE KILLING UNNECESSARY YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOUR SELF NOT ENTERTAIN AT ALL
