Rabbit numbers are continuing to boom on one of Mat Manning’s grassland permissions, and we join him as he heads back out on the farm to keep the burrowing pests in check. With the bunnies venturing out for their evening feeding frenzy, Mat sets up and ambush so he can snipe them as they venture out from cover. It turns out to be a busy evening’s shooting and Mat’s pest control efforts are rewarded with more delicious meat for the pot.
Also in this week’s episode, Mat shares a few simple tips to help you get the most from your recoiling airgun. Whether you shoot a gas-ram or a springer, you can vastly improve accuracy by getting the fundamentals right, and Mat easy-to-follow advise should get you on the right track to consistently precise pellet placement.

I love that it seems more than a few of you guys are talking about springers and break barrels recently. Obviously Gamo is kind of leading that resurgence and for a good reason! I do just want to say that I absolutely love my Crosman MagFire Ultra in .177 and have recently surpassed 1200 rounds with it. An absolute nailer with a 10.5 gr pellet and a little practice! Cheers and thanks for another great video! 👍👍👍

Bagged myself 3 this morning around 4-6am. Always worth the hassle. New to hunting and air guns but after reading your book and going 4 days a week relentlessly i am now stalking rabbits very well and setting up great ambushes. Mat.. is it normal for some rabbits to have a sort of sour smell? I notice this on the female does mostly who have alot of fatty tissue, has a very odd sour smell. Not foul by any means but notably different. I cannot find anything about it online. Luke, yorkshire ~

You seem to imply that a pcp is more accurate then the good reliable Springer In a lot of cases over the years it's been proven that Springers can produce and do produce top end accuracy in a lot of cases better then a pcp Cheers good video 📹

My Gamo Shadow Sport is “all over the place”. It’s just about impossible to sight in. You may (or may not) hit a bird or squirrel at 10m max. It’s barely consistent enough for 5m (15ft). I’m looking at getting an FX Impact.

@@derekbootle8316 I assume you mean it has to be firing powder-burners to qualify as 'shooting'? Whereas Matt's spot-on here, wisely using a rifle capable of 60ft/lbs+ turned down to 30ft/lbs, allows for humane headshots out to decent ranges, while keeping noise to a minimum (way quieter than a moderated subsonic rimfire rifle), so as not to scare off other vermin. 🤷🏻‍♂️ R

Obvious publisher / big advertiser arrangement going on here. I subscribed to Airgun Shooter but the magazine is nearly as bad as Mr Doe & his Daystate shilling, so I unsubscribed. Gamo are barely average guns at best & I certainly would not be recommending the ram models to learn to shoot with. If you want to shoot springers avoid the gasram models & go for a decent basic spring gun. Forget the all in deals like this Gamo with cheap scope & mounts, what you get with the scope comes out of the build budget for the gun. Never buy packages, you sacrifice quality of the important part, the gun. Go for an HW99, cheap enough & head & shoulders above any Gamo, BSA or Hatsan springer/rammer. I have a collection of Birmingham built Webley rifles & they are brilliant hunting guns. Build quality is top notch & with very little work very accurate. If you are going to go springer buy quality, either HW, Air arms (though AA are very expensive) or quality 2nd hand HW or Webleys. If you want ram go for HW90 new or 2nd hand. I do wish that yours & the Archant magazines were not so deep in advertisers pockets because it is impossible to take what you say seriously when you're recommending barely average plastic shod, cheaply built guns like the Gamo as quality performance rifles. No way on this earth you would choose that gun above other quality spring guns for hunting if you weren't scared of losing advertising revenue. You should be recommending the best possible gun, be it springer or PCP for hunting & that Gamo is not in anyway what should be recommended for hunting, especially to those new to the sport. Humane kills are vital & that Gamo is not easy to shoot to the standard of accuracy demanded by hunting unless you have a lot of shooting experience with spring /rammers. Keep shilling for the advertising income but this sport needs to have the best reputation, especially for hunting & you are not helping that reputation by recommending inferior guns that drastically raise the chances of wounding prey. The anti's love reporting animals wounded by air guns so you should not be aiding them.

@Broad Side Made for free are they? I suppose the magazine is free as well. Are you that naive that you think they make these videos for us out of the goodness of their hearts? I think you probably are. It's a business, the video's are made to attract more advertising which is why they overwhelmingly positively review the advertisers wares, no matter how bad the wares are & literally never criticise them. Pushing that Gamo rammer as some sort of impressive bit of kit is a joke. If you had a clue about airguns you would know this. The "free" video reviews are there to attract the clueless & hype the latest thing that's usually rubbish , so the advertiser sells more & the magazine & channel get more money. Like I said it's a business & the business does not care that they sell & recommend tat to gullible customers & trust me they do. I would happily subscribe to a channel that actually impartially reviewed airguns, if you know one let me know. If you actually believe the reviews that these and Archant put out then congratulations you are the exact clueless punter they want to attract. Actually yep, I do know a lot about spring guns & I work a lot on my collection. I am not an expert gun smith by any means but I know what makes a good spring gun & how to improve them. I've shot, tuned & maintained springers for over 40yrs so yes I am an armchair expert & proud of it. Since you insist, here you go a quick review. Webley Vulcan MK3. Well made Birmingham gun. Very basic but reliable rifle. Easy to strip & maintain. The trigger is average compared to other brands such as HW & many modern guns but can be easily improved with polishing, honing & a lighter trigger spring. Most Vulcans are 5.6mm bore & this can make finding compatable pellets hard but when one is found the Vulcan is accurate out to 30yds if you do your bit & know the proper way to shoot spring guns One of the main issues with the Vulcan is the barrel pivot bolt which is not adjustable & can wear affecting accuracy. So watch out for that if you get one. Later Webley rifles like the Longbow rectified this with adjustable bolts to nip up any looseness in the breech Jaws. Scope rails are decent but no arrestor holes mean good mounts are essential but if you can find one with the original open sights then use them, they are very nice out to 20yds. Build quality is excellent & bluing is usually excellent & of a quality rarely found on modern guns. Stock design is classic sporter with a slightly low comb but an adjustable butt pad helps sort this out. Handling is neutral & the MK3 carbine is a truly excellent handling rifle. With properly fitted spring guides & a good lube job the Vulcan is a delight to shoot. It is a light easily handled sporter that is great for hunting out to 30yds if you can find a pellet it likes. With new Wasps I can attain 5p groups at 25yds easily & that is with 22. So the Vulcan is classic Webley, well built, easy to handle but not without issues. The trigger being the main one. Would I recommend finding a decent 2nd hand example. Absolutely, but be prepared to do some work to get the best from it but if you put the work in you will have a reliable workhorse that will last another 40 years. See, that's called an honest review because I've no advertiser masters to shill for. So, no I'm not naive I'm honest & I know the score when it comes to these sort of "review" videos / articles. You carry on believing free somehow makes up for pushing inferior quality tat, you're gullabiliy is what they are aiming at. Oh & yes Webleys are good guns & no Gamo aren't OK, they are horrible especially the gas ram, just like the Ram BSA's.

@Broad Side I pay monthly for my Internet, I paid for the devices I watch on. I pay for the electricity that powers those devices. Nothing is free. I don't know how much the mags would be but they still aren't free are they genius? Yes it's business but that does not mean you have to shill like Airgun Shooter & the Archant mags. Plenty of KZbin channels are sponsored & advertise but they give unbiased reviews & will declare if products have been supplied by sponsors/advertisers. I 100‰ guarantee that if Mr Manning was going to spend his own money he would not be buying a plastic fantastic Gamo to go hunting with. You are right I don't have to watch & I won't because there are plenty of channels & other resources that give decent reviews, advice & technical help with integrity. You go on being a gullible simp defending bad advice, compromised reviews & I will carry on knowing more about airguns than you will ever know (plainly obvious you know pretty much nothing) & avoiding these shill sites. Oh & you asked me for a review, I threw one together quickly on the spot. It had more honest appraisal than any review those shill sites put out & mate you show just how little you know because the Vulcan is a good solid rifle easily improved & 100 times better than that piece of crap Gamo. I typed that review in 5 minutes of the top of my head, so yeah I could put together something vastly more informative, entertaining & most importantly with integrity given the time. For example I coukd do a review taking apart the review Matt does of that Gamo & show just how bad a gun it is & how much he is hyping to please his advertising masters. Could you do that? Do you know enough to actually critique his review, I doubt it. I note you said you've used Gamo's which says all I need to know about your knowledge of airguns 😂 You carry on watching crap, dishonest, biased reviews & bad advice & I'll carry on going to the places that know what they are talking about. I put my money where my mouth is, I did a quick review. All you have done is try to insult me & simp for an airgun show, are you hoping for a free subscription & pat on the head from Matt 🤔
