@@KaiservonKrieger Chill dude, I was agreeing. In any case, I find it a pity that the caseless ammunition that the G11 was attempting to utilize was never further researched upon. The major issue that new rifles put out by Textron and General Dynamics look to address is the weight of all the ammunition the soldier would be expected to carry. Both companies are attempting to fix this by using Polymer ammo casing instead of traditional brass like we have been using for more than 100 years now. I personally would have loved to see caseless ammo explored as an option to solve the ammo weight issue, but I recognize that the ammo the G11 had did have issues. It was reported that the propellant blocks the ammo sat in had issues with cracking and falling apart, primers(which were glued onto the backs of the propellant blocks) not sticking, and generally brass ammo being better at heat management(Hot brass comes out of the gun = less heat in the gun). But things have changed since the 70s. We have better materials and it may be possible to build a better caseless ammo.

@jamesrivettcarnac5 жыл бұрын
@@MFKR696 isn't that the point?
@MFKR6965 жыл бұрын
@@jamesrivettcarnac Nope. Totally not the point. The point (pun intended) of using a bayonet is to kill the enemy, not splatter his guts all over the field. A chainsaw bayonet would take too long to do the job, because it would snag like a mofo, and it would make a hell of a mess in the mean-time. You can forget about being stealthy, too. A chainsaw bayonet would rattle and clank like there's no tomorrow, and the second you fire it up, everyone on the field now knows *exactly* where you are. It would also be way too heavy. Ounces = pounds and pounds = pain. I know you probably think a chainsaw would be intimidating, but all that would result in is you drawing the fire of every rifle, machine-gun and mortar that the enemy had looking in your direction. "Intimidating" equals "fire magnet" in the real world. If the enemy saw you with that, you would be the first to die, because you know there's no way in hell they're gonna let you get anywhere near them. Besides, you don't get to Valhalla by cutting your enemies in half with a fucking chainsaw. That's not the conduct of a warrior. The job of a warrior is to kill, not to create undue suffering. That kind of shit just makes your enemy stronger. The more they hate you, the harder they're gonna fight you, and the less likely it will be that they will take any prisoners.

also if anyone wanted a bit more: the A/K and AEK, maybe the AN but i doubt it since Nikonov had a very different design philosophy, all came from a system made in the 70s that lost to the AK-74 due to price issues, the AL-7, or ALeksandrov 7. it was gun based on an unnamed AK competitor, by Yury Aleksandrov's at the time boss, Pyotr Tkachyov, called the AO-38. ik that sounds like a name, AO is just "Automatic Weapon" in commiespeak. both the AL and AO were made at TsNIITochMash, which is something along the lines of "Institute of Precision Tooling." gotta love those catchy russian names for things. anyway to make a long story short: the AK won twice, so it was decided to incorporate Pyotr's BARS - Balanced Automatic Recoil System (no original russian name provided) in the ak..by multiple people. at the same time. for the same event. also, sorry brandon i didn't watch your video yet so you may have touched on this: the reason i call it the A/K-107 is because its not an Avtomat Kalashnikova. its actually the Alexandrov-Kalashnikov, referencing the guy who shoved it in a Kalashnikov. in the same vein, the AEK is something like Avtomat Ediniy Koksharov. Automatic, Universal, Koksharov. by some smart cookie called Sergey Koksharov at the Degtyarev plant..which apparently is still operational, or at least was. i thought deg died shortly after the second world war.

A bit late to the party, but thanks for the nerdy stuff! The photos at the end were really helpful, seeing how all the gubbins fit together really shows how clean and elegant the idea and execution are. I like automatic watches for the way all the bits fit perfectly together to create a balanced unit, I like this for the same reason. Shame that, as a Brit, I'm probably more unlikely to ever own one than you...

Pro tip : when writing on a white board, take care to keep the tip of your marker pointed DOWNWARD, so the ink will flow towards the tip under gravity, in stead of having to climb AGAINST gravity using capillary force.

My impression of the AK-107, before watching this video, was that there was a stand alone piston in the extended gas tube that was made of a denser material and simply shot forward to counter recoil. I'm sure this was probably tried but I'd love to see someone do it.

Ive been designing something similar to this myself for several years. Mine is for an AR type rifle though. I plan to use a telescopic bolt carrier also to lengthen the barrel without lengthening the overall length of the gun itself. If i ever get it completed, i will make a video showing it off.
