Another great vid, Tony, thanks! Have you done any videoing of CP coal trains in the east Kootenays? there's a fine RR museum in Cranbrook too, that i'm sure you know about. Recording of coal loading in Elk valley and the yards in Golden would be of great interest to your fans. Cheers and best wishes.

Thank you for the suggestions, Golden is almost totally a no fly zone for the drone except the south west corner so I will try there once. I am planning to film in the crowsnest pass area in a couple weeks so keep an eye out for those

Great video. This musem is on a former military spur track that used to cross 34th st NW to a fueling area to the west. If you follow the old right of way, you can see it curve south and then end. Pretty cool stuff!!
@TonyVRailfanning
@TonyVRailfanning Жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes. The museum would like to reopen the line farther west but the road crossing would require lights and possibly gates an cost they can’t really afford.
@trainguy7261
@trainguy7261 Жыл бұрын
@@TonyVRailfanning They really need a sponsor to make it happen. The right of way berm is still in place. It would make the passenger experience that much more with a longer ride and crossing bells and whistles.
@bobsmith2637
@bobsmith2637 Жыл бұрын
@@trainguy7261 The military sold the right of way west of 34 St some years ago. In recent years it has become a dumping ground for spoil from construction projects, the old grade is now buried under a giant pile of dirt. Even if the museum were to somehow get enough money to buy that land it would take a lot of work and an even larger amount of $$$ to put a railroad there again, and that's assuming the current owner would even be willing to consider selling it.

Nice vid. Great shots both drone and on ground. Engine has a really clear horn; nice tone. And the 44 ton GE switcher is a duplicate of the one I drive as engineer on a scenic railroad in central Ohio.
@TonyVRailfanning
@TonyVRailfanning Жыл бұрын
Thank you, that’s really neat that you operate a switcher like that. This stuff fascinates me.

Alberta needs to build a double track from Fort Mac to the Montana boarder,to haul raw bitumen to the United States to rebuild their crumbling roads and highways.4 GE AC6000CW and about 370 open top hopper cars,this should happen now that premier has invoked the “sovereignty act”this would be good business.The up side is less refining and a cleaner northern Alberta.

@@TonyVRailfanning It got 3 business cars : CP#1 used by John A. McDonald, the Saskatchewan used by William Cornelius VanHorme during construction of the railroad through the Rockies and the Canada, used by Charles Melville Hays. It was used to bring back his body from Halifax to Montréal after he died on Titanic. During the Holidays, you can have tea in it.

@@TonyVRailfanning The closest thing to a railway museum near where I live (mid Vancouver Island) is a Forestry Museum which has a narrow gauge visitor train track, and a collection of locomotives (mostly static display, but some operable). One of my retirement goals is to build relationships there, and be able to have trusted access to behind the scenes moves of equipment, etc. Observing your work in this video is helpful for me.
