Nice review! Here, in the Netherlands (Europe), we don't get Heady Topper nor Focal Banger. Luckily, my wife is a flight attendant and after visiting New York this year she brought me two cans of each. I was not disappointed! Straight on, Focal Banger was my favourite as it is unbelievably citrusy and hoppy without hopburn. The first can of Heady I smelled the marihuana-dankness immediately, and I really enjoyed how dank and citrusy and still easy drinkable it was. It didn't hit all the spots like Focal Banger did with me. That's just really about personal preference. The second can I had almost 3 months later, and I noticed how the aroma of Heady was already much less pungeant. Still tasted great, but it changed a bit and I missed that full on dank slap in the face. That's my minimal experience with these two worldclass IPA's. Cheers!

I love hearing how you got some and your thoughts about it and Focal Banger! I will be reviewing Focal Banger soon, but in the past I have gone back and forth with which one I like more. Definitely a debate!

Glad you mentioned the nuttiness. That’s fairly minuscule in Heady for me yet I swear I’ve had Tree House’s Juice Machine numerous times and I think it tastes like peanuts.

If I had to guess they might use a touch of spelt in the grain bill. Its high in protein and has a slight nutty/spicy note.

I’m the same Kyle- each time I take that first sip of Heady or Focal I get that same, “damn it’s good”, moment!

Great review, Kyle. Was fortunate enough to receive a few cans over the years from friends or clients who live in New England and it's really a treat (pretty much impossible to get here in the Chicago area). I put Heady Topper in the same catagory as Pliny in regards to being trailblazers in the modern history of craftbeer in the U.S..

I wish I could get this or Focal Banger. Alchemist doesn’t get to my market. Or RR’s Pliny. I was supposed to do a beer swap with a guy in Pittsburgh, where I was on a work assignment. Snow cancelled that trip and I never got the HT. Oh well. A boy can dream 😆. Is that a Revolution Brewing … Hop Soldier shirt?!

All three of those are definitely worth seeking out. Sorry that Mother Nature got in the way! The shirt is from a subscription box that pivoted to a different business model. Cheers!
