The game was a realistic take on the first movie. Man, a Masterpiece!!!
@majorbensonwinifredpayne21586 жыл бұрын
There was definately a Queen on Sevastopol because there are hundreds of eggs in the Hive under the main reactor. While eggmorphing process can create new eggs, it does so much slower than the Queen and it can't make them in such large quantity. I think the Queen was either the first xenomorph on Sevastopol (born from Catherine Foster - Marlow's girlfriend who was facehugged) or she was born through eggmorphing made by the Foster's Drone. That Queen was most likely killed when Amanda purged the reactor (unlike smaller and more agile Drones a massive Queen couldn't escape in time).
@MetroCammellDMUs6 жыл бұрын
eggmorphing isn't really that slow. Brett from Alien was nearly pretty much turned into a full egg and that was less than 24 hours, because if you recall, Ripley says to the marines in Aliens "one of things managed to wipe out her entire crew in less than 24 hours". so eggmorphing is quite quick actually. so with a space station full of people, that alien is very capable of taking many hosts and in less than 24 hours
@majorbensonwinifredpayne21586 жыл бұрын
I think that while eggmorphing may take less than 24 hours, it's still slower than the Queen who produces around few dozen eggs in the same 24 hours time period (a scene in Aliens where Ripley and Newt stumbled upon the Queen shows well how fast the Queen produces eggs ). With eggmorphing the xenos need to capture two host organisms instead of just one (one for egg transformation and other for facehugger to plant an embryo). And there weren't that many hosts on Sevastopol for the xenos to create that many eggs through eggmorphing only. When the infestation began Sevastopol crew had only about 300-500 people since the station was about to be decomissioned and when Amanda and her team arrived to the station there were still around 100 human survivors separated into multiple rogue groups.
@tgiacin4356 жыл бұрын
Major Benson Winifred Payne I’d have to go with Foster having the queen implanted. Main reason is because there’s a facehugger running around on Marlow’s ship. To me that says she had a queen the emerged when she was on the operating table. And yeah, eggmorphing on that scale would lead to too many eggs, not enough people. I think the queen laying the eggs is the main form of reproduction, and there are alternatives to either start a nest, or have a queen.

To be honest this theory makes much more sense than the egg morphing theory. In the absence of a hive, create one. Hive needs a Queen, and all drones have the potential to become one in the absence of an existing one, or if the Queen should be killed, rather than relying on a singular facehugger that only appears "when the time is right".

I believe it was a Queen’s reproduction taking place, rather than eggmorphing. Eggmorphing requires people, which is a finite resource on a lone space station. Some eggmorphing could’ve taken place in the early infestations of Sevastopol. However, it is most likely a Queen grew to size at the most populated stage, and the inhabitants were used as mere hosts, rather than both nutrients and hosts. Eggmorphing being involved would be less efficient. It would require a half sum of individuals selected for the unseen morphing, and a select few to be face hugged. Whereas, a Queen can just get the job done then and there.
@caseyrainey72566 жыл бұрын
JimmyMACfluster It would be interesting to see them economically using the bodies of hosts for eggmorphing lol. That's assuming that Brett was dead before being converted at the end of the director's cut.
@Bobbobson694206 жыл бұрын
That is correct. The Xenomorphs could very well have been converting dead hosts, already chest-bursted for their morphing. I assumed that the original eggmorphing hosts were still alive when morphed. Dallas was only partially morphed and was still able to beg for death. Brett however, was already mostly a completed Ovamorph, so it is uncertain whether or not he was harvested alive, or killed off in the Xenomorph’s assault. [Which is most likely the case, unless the frontal lobe damage only cause paralysis.]

Remember how Ripley was chased by the alien queen in Aliens? Now imagine an entire level where you have to run around corridors and trying to run away from the alien queen. While running away from the xenomorph is useless as they programmed the monster to always catch up to you, which forces the player to move slow and sneak around, in the Queens case, the player would actually be encouraged to run fast, so that the alien queen would not catch up to him. I always got the chills in the scene where, Ripley was waiting by the elevator to get in, while the alien queen was seen approaching from the distance. Then Ripley had to keep her at bay by shooting with the flamethrower, until she could get in the elevator and then close the door. And just when she though that she escaped the queen, it turned out that the queen also learned pretty fast, how to use an elevator. So Ripley saw how the alien queen was also following them with the elevator. Like, if done right, they could have a very stressful and adrenaline filled level where you have to run away from the Alien Queen. I think there is potential in that.
@Eluderatnight Жыл бұрын
The thing is the queen would have to break off the brood sack to do so.
@40kEvilEd2096 жыл бұрын
Alien Isolation was a near perfect game and really captured the claustrophobic terror of the original film. I never felt like the need or explanation of a queen present on the station was needed. However in looking back, hints to her presence could have added to the terror. Once the flamethrower was added to the game the alien itself became less of a threat, albeit in only a small degree. Knowing that there was something worse on the station could have help to build up the fear of third act of the game. Now if only we could convince Activision and Creative Assembly to make a sequel so that we know the definitive end to Amanda’s story prior to her passing mention in the directors cut of Aliens.

Honestly I like the subtle hints that the Queen is there, the creepy hissing in some parts of the game, and I think they made the right choice in not including the xenomorph queen especially since they are going for a survival horror, the Queen is good for games like AvP, Aliens Colonial Marines, and Fireteam but also I like the developers confirmed she indeed does exist somewhere deep within the Sevastopol station, hearing her hisses and screeches but not having her make a physical appearance to me makes it more threatening because the normal Xenomorph drone is threatening and scary enough but you get a feeling that something much bigger is hidden deep within the station, you don't see our beloved Xeno Queen, but she makes her presence known in the game with subtle hints being her screeches and hisses you can hear in some parts of the game, ultimately I think she is the ultimate orchestrator behind everything, she is unseen but she is definitely there, I believe the Xenomorph that's hunting you and the other survivors on board the Sevastopol are being hunted under her orders for the hive.

I dislike the concept simply because it doesn't make sense from either a purely natural evolutionary standpoint or the standpoint that they are entirely engineered bioweapons. If the xenomorph species were natural then they would have evolved into what they are. Eggmorphing completely rewrites organisms on the DNA level. It would take less energy to simply morph a host into another xenomorph than to make an egg to house a facehugger to house an embryo that would take on the DNA of it's host. Eggmorphing is a waste of energy and resources. If they were engineered bioweapons then it makes way more sense to have a terminal unit that is in control to all the other ones and to be vital to the survival of the species. That way if you control one unit you control the whole army. Eggmorphing completely undermines that. It just doesn't make sense no matter what origin for the alien you go for. Eggmorphing is a product of a stand alone film spitballing an idea that didn't make it until decades later. It's fine though we don't call Weyland-Yutani "Weylan-Yutani" and have it's logo be a sunrise like the first film do we?

@darkarpatron4 жыл бұрын
Personally, I like the idea of a lone Alien using the egg morphing method at first, then when it's supported by enough drones, that Alien then becomes a Queen, the reasoning behind this being that if a lone Alien immediately transformed into a Queen then not only would she be highly restricted in movement but particularly vulnerable while in the egg laying process. Not to say that she couldn't detach from her egg sack if she needed to, but to me it just makes sense that they'd do this on an evolutionary cautious level, Xenomorphs being incredibly hardy survivors after all.

I think that confirming it's there, unseen, actually makes me more nervous going through this part. (I've literally JUST entered the hive on my first play-through.) There is (although a random event I recall) a hiss/screech that is VERY difficult from the sounds the Xenomorph Drones make in the game. It freaked me the hell out and, although not seen or directly mentioned, that sound was enough to make me more cautious while playing.
@explode1010Ай бұрын
There definitely was a queen on the station, you could hear her occasionally through the entire game. There is a very specific xenomorph screech you hear that is the canon noise of the queen broadcasting general orders to xenos in the hive, you hear her every so often as you travel through the game, the most loudly in the hive mission.

I think there was a Queen, we just didn't need to see it. Hear it maybe, that makes the hive stage more tense (if possible) than it already was. Knowing she's there...somewhere. Great video again.

I think both egg morphing and queen would work. Not only would egg morphing would produce more aliens, it would also have the chance of finding an alien queen to lead and speed up the process of their infestation

I always wondered if there was only the one alien during the first 10 missions and the others were just chilling down in the reactor. Every character was confident that there was only one and when Ripley consults Apollo, it tells her unverified scans in the reactor and does not mention any other trace of the alien elsewhere on the station. If there were multiple aliens running around the whole time, why do they disappear during missions 11-13? I think if you go to San Cristobol during mission 12, you can encounter the alien but that might be a mistake on the game's part. I'm leaning towards there being just one in the beginning who happens to follow you from space flight terminal, to Lorenz, to San Cristobol, even if it is unrealistic and makes no sense.

Since the aliens are such good survivors and all the experiments that David does to create them I’m guessing that egg morphing is a way to produce a royal facehugger that would in turn produce a queen. Love how there are so many unanswered questions about them
@raf74hawk126 жыл бұрын
I think it's both. Having the first drone molt into a queen wouldn't be ideal, since now there is no way to keep the new victims safe during incubation. I feel like a hive would have to hit a certain population before a queen would be a good investment of resources.

Personally I really like that we never see the queen. I would have liked if she was hinted at more, like in a log someone starts wondering how more eggs and xenos got on board and theorized that maybe one of them became a queen. But not seeing her really works within lore, because her being shoved away deep into the station makes a lot of sense. We only scratch a little into the hive like the marines in aliens. We would have had to go way deeper to see her.

Well holy shit...I had no idea! I assumed they went down the egg-morphing route. In my opinion what they should have done is have her in a hidden area, for example behind a locked door in the hive; and unlocking the door was time consuming and involved various steps. The casual player would most likely completely miss this. Therefore they wouldn’t have had to include a battle of any kind - it would just be about catching a glimpse. Hell, maybe they could’ve even thrown in a hidden trophy for it.

I agree with it. While the presence of a queen is very important in some ways, it would definitely enter my mind as a player that there would have to be a reckoning or confrontation with one. The absence of mentioning the queen means you still focus your concerns on Sevastopol itself and the Alien drones hunting you. While it would have been a cool thing, I agree it would have added a distraction and the game already had a very nice flow between humans, aliens, and androids.

It wasn't until recently that I noticed that Brett was turning into an egg in that deleted scene (which I've only seen a few times compared to the film which I've seen many times). I like the idea that a lone male alien can still reproduce because otherwise, unless the first alien to be born is a queen, then there is no other possibility. My impression when I first played the game was that they just disregarded Aliens and everything else as canon until I heard what you mentioned in the video about a queen being there in theory but not acknowledged. If the egg-morphing is not a real thing in canon, that means the alien that spawned from Foster had to be a queen, snatched up at least one person to spawn more aliens and then let them do the rest. If egg-morphing is a thing, then Foster's alien could have egg-morphed until eventually they got a queen who could then lay the eggs for them. Egg-morphing as a concept is not very believable to me, even in this universe. If we get a sequel, which we won't, I hope they clear this up.
@alessandrofedericogobber56343 жыл бұрын
Both molting and eggmorphing are seen as possible methods of reproducing, it just the circumstances that dictate which method is used. For example, the Nostromo's rooms probably could not hold a Queen, which would make molting difficult if not outright impossible, so eggmorphing was used. I like to think eggmorphing as an emergency situation where a Queen cannot gestate or be molted into for various reasons
@libertyfp6 жыл бұрын
The addition of an alien queen could have ruined the game because alien isolation is a horror game, not an action game. They could have added in a queen but without a battle scene. Make it more of a flight rather than fight scene where Ripley is running away from and hiding from the queen. The use of the alien queen would have to be very little though imo. Introduce her down in the nest with a running and hiding scene, having her survive the purge and climbing up the wall, then seeing her one last time charging at you down the maintenance rig as you're about to release the torrens.
@RamielNagisa6 жыл бұрын
I would agree that mentioning and or see a Queen would've disrupted the flow and horror of the game, giving a it a more "Aliens" feel. I think the idea of a hidden, unseen Queen or--as you mentioned--the Egg-morphing was the best way to go about it. I loved the first movie, and the game very much feels like a sequel to it.
@MrDuneedonАй бұрын
So, for the "egg morphing" -- thinking back to that director's cut of Alien -- what does the xenomorph actually DO to the person to start that process? Like, is it another implantation-type thing? Or does just "sticking them to the wall and gooing all over them" kick off that process?

I knew this topic had to be here somewhere! A bit late to the party, but I recently replayed this game and it left me with a lot of questions that I am relieved was at least partially covered here. While the gameplay remains excellent, the story is a bit inconsistent with established alien behavior, as it understandably caters to the gaming experience. The lack of a queen has been explained, but why was there only one drone to start with? Why was there two hives, and why didn't the few remaining drones remain to protect it instead of follow Amanda to the Torrens? If I remember correctly, only about a week passes between the Anesidora arriving and the end of the game. Seems like an awfully fast timeline for the state Sevastopol is in when Amanda arrives, considering their population and resources. I would love to hear anybody's thoughts on this, but given that this video is over two years old now I'm just happy others has wondered the same things!

I dont like the idea of the queen . because It was a creation of James Cameron that was indeed copying Starship TRoopers. Soldiers , bugs , power armors and a queen , these are all elements of Robert A. Heinlein Novel . Alien was originally a terrifying creature , but the second movie turned then into insects .
@johnclark9263 жыл бұрын
I’ve never understood why they can’t say that eggmorphing and queens are both canon. The former makes sense as a starting point when there’s only a single drone that has to make do with whatever bodies he’s got, the idea that Xenomorphs can effectively start a colony from just one stowaway drone on a ship is fantastic. The latter also makes sense since once a Queen finally finishes her lengthy growth and development, ovomorph production becomes both cheaper and faster, so Xenomorphs can stray away from just killing people and focus more on the more horrifying prospect of impregnating them. Having both in canon would be satisfying and contribute to the theme of Xenomorphs having so many ways to kill you and use your body.

I like to think of as this: The first Xenomorph made its way through the station torwards the reactor. As it established its Hive either two things happened. 1- Among the many eggs it produced through egg morphin a queen was spawned and the drone went from establishing a supply chain of hosts to actively hunting and protecting the hive. Or 2- Either the first Xeno aboard the station was a queen from the start and established the hive quickly to spawn more drones or with lack of a queen like 6, the first Xeno became the alpha of the pack and while others hunted after the hive was established the drone went through a transformation into a queen.

Not sure about the whole egg morphing thing, I know it was a cut scene from Alien, I suspect it was cut because it didn't make sense within the Alien lore/lifecycle. It also suggests we're a lot closer genetically to the Xeno species than originally thought, not really comfortable with that either if I'm honest (although Davids activities certainly suggest this to be the case) I think it's far more likely that a Xeno evolved into a Queen once it got far away enough from her to be able to do so! I love your stuff, keep going! :)

I love this game and the whole franchise. A inclusion of the queen in the hive level would have been cool and it would have been great to see a Queen in the background behind a invisible wall or something. Even if it wasn't to appear in the game. A little nod or anything to confirm that there was in fact a queen on Sevastopol would have been nice and something I would appreciate alot. Ultimately I conpletely understand the absence of the queen because after all, This was supposed to be a survival/horror game. Having a Queen boss battle would have been too random for me.

*The answer: It's both. It is common-knowledge that Facehuggers change the DNA of their embryo to create a Queen when necessary - the Queen then starts a Hive. In the absence of a Queen, a Drone can capture hosts and turn them into Eggs, or the Drone can turn into a Queen - all to ensure the continuation of the Xenomorph species.*

@dolphinjeans6633 жыл бұрын
I think the first drone molted into a queen and didn’t use egg morphing. The reason I think this is because when the first alien burst from the Foster’s chest it eventually turns into a full grown drone. Then people start going missing around the station. This would suggest that the xenomorph was being cautious as it was alone and it was likely kidnapping people while they were alone and taking them to the hive. For example, there is an audio tap(right around after consulting with Apollo) where someone is talking about how they sent someone to go fix something by himself in a separate room and that person goes missing. I think the xenomorph kidnapped multiple people and cocooned them so it would have a batch ready to be face hugged when the eggs were ready. With the missing people cocooned the xenomorph then molted into a queen and started laying eggs. When all the missing people had been face hugged and the xenomorphs bursted through them then that would mean there was a queen with a handful of xenomorphs. Which would also explain why the xenomorphs get more and more aggressive. By the time Ripley gets to the station the xenomorphs are risking confronting multiple groups of people by themselves as their is already a stable hive and other xenomorphs. No need to hid and pick of the people going by themselves. This is supported because when Ripley first discovered the hive after getting off the elevator and finding a flamethrower she says she’s found the missing people. So these are the people who were taken by the first xenomorph. Notice they weren’t egg morphed. Too me, it makes much more sense for a lone drone to kidnap multiple hosts, cocoon them, then molt into a queen and produce eggs to get face hug the hosts and produce more xenomorphs as soon as possible.

They made the right call. Isolation is tedious but also allegedly about escape and survival. Going into the heart of the lion's den would've taken away from that,rather than skirting its edges just long enough to flip a few switches and get out
@Fraggr926 жыл бұрын
The way i look at it: Eggmorphing is what a lone drone does when it's hatched into a completely new environment or when it's hive gets wiped out. Sort of like a last-ditch failsafe to prevent a hive from dying out completely if the queen and hatchery gets terminated or is otherwise unavailable. It finds living creatures and uses them to morph a couple of new eggs, some of which will be drones to help the first drone and at least one will be a queen to get the hive going for real. I imagine it's probably very taxing for a lone drone to both generate the "creep" (star craft reference for lack of a better word) that makes up the lair AND initiating/overseeing the morphing process for new eggs though so i'm not sure how effective the eggmorphing stratedgy is in the long term from the viewpoint of a single drone. It would be interesting to know if a drone can morph new eggs indefinitely or if there's some sort of limit before it can't take any more and dies. Either way, that's how i look at it. It's just my personal theory and i could very well be wrong :)

Tbh, I like the idea that we dont see the queen. Ripley had the worlds unluckiest chance of bumping into the queen when looking for newt, deep in the hive, she had the armaments to defend herself. Amanda cannot even fight 1 alien, so her going up against the queen would be silly, or seeing her from a vantage point would be a waste of spectacle. The point of the game was to make you fear the regular xenos, you werent a marine, so youd never have a chance to go up against them. They were the threat, and your only interest is escape, not finding out were they came from. That being said, I do wish there were *some* hints, maybe when going through the vents in the hive at a particular point of the map, we can hear barley the faint hissing a queen reverberating along the mist filled vents, never seeing....only hearing
