As a car enthusiast that is usually all against EVs, a cheap EV that weights 980kg really excites me
@toyotaprius792 ай бұрын
You're not "against EVs" you're against being smothered in bloated crap purely to squeeze more profit out of any car, especially when they're a crossover SUV. Look at the cynical-as-sin and petrol-only Toyota Aygo X for example compared to the old Aygo/C1/107-8 and Dacia Spring

We’ve had one for a couple of weeks, great little car. Very nippy up to 50 mph, actually quite quick 30-50, which is the real benchmark for a commuter/ shopper. Charging overnight from a 13amp, domestic 3 pin, no problem. Very easy to drive, particularly like regenerative braking mode, which I don’t recall you mentioning. On my tariff, compared to our previous Sandero Stepway, (50. Mpg) we are getting equivalent of 170 mpg. The Frunk kit cost £125.00, not £265.00. So far very happy. My other car is a classic Saab with a 3 litre turbo V6, so the little Dacia, does all the short journeys.

I didn't realise you could spec the Frunk by itself so that's good to know 👍 There were a few things I left out, purely because I forgot haha - regen braking being one of them. It's good, but not as strong as I thought it would be.
@alanmole72922 ай бұрын
@ If you switch on the Road speed sign recognition, the regen seems to bring you down to the speed limit, but I find it wonderful for a fast exit out of bends, well I use the term “fast” rather loosely, but it feels fast.

@alanmole7292 I think the lack of engine noise makes it feel quicker than it is strangely...

I’ve just ordered one today passed test on the 13/12 already have a duster so this will be it’s little brother for city runs. Total cost with service plan and ev pack £173 0% down for 3 years and a £8 to do 100 miles when charged on a cheap overnight tariff

Great review. Have seen other reviews on the Spring and yours is by far the best and completely down to earth, thank goodness.

I'm not in the market for this kind of animal. But if I was and I did a short commute and could home-charge then I'd be quite happy to tool around in one of these. Apple Carplay as standard? Bonkers, mate. Terrific value compared to most EVs. Or non-EVs come to that. Great review.

Thanks bud. Absolutely ideal for people who just want something to get them from A to B.

Rhymes with "Brian's Hair..." Nicely done! The Spring is a nifty little thing - there will be those who knock it given how affordable it is, but I'd have one if I needed a new car.

Is the driving position slightly raised? Like do you step into it or is it like a small hatchback where you have to lower yourself into?
@lookship2 ай бұрын
What do you think of it? Would you have one? For less than £15k (or £200pm if you get one on tick) I definitely think it's something you should consider. Especially if you want to avoid being shafted by the government with road & luxury car tax.

This car isn't a true Dacia. This is a rebadged, redesigned Renault KZE. It is made in China. Still, for a drive in town from A to B, it should do the job.
@KanishQQuotes2 ай бұрын
It's actually a Renault kwid sold in India and Brazil
@Mozzer194522 күн бұрын
It is still made in China when we should be supporting vehicles made in the Free World.

8:07 what an absolute piss take. It shouldn't cost a small fortune to have a plastic frunk or flase floor boot made out of cardboard. They should come as standard. No need and cynical as hell. Make them optional deleted features for a lower than base price. Why not make rear manual windows available in the upper trims?

The Spring you actually want is £17k i can buy a Suzuki Swift for that at a tier 1 discount and it is so much more capable ie 400 mile range plus fairly cheap to run long service activated 7 year warranty. Where this might be the biz is as a cheap nesrly new or used car for second or third car use in a family where it will likely be cheaper to run and duffiviently capable for the role.

"everything is measured in liters nowadays" - bish, you know what a liter is, you're not using cubic barleycorn for engine size. Quit this moaning about the metric system, JFC.
@lookshipАй бұрын
Completely missed the point. Why do car manufacturers insist on telling the consumer what something is measured in when you could just physically show them by putting a few items in the boot. After all the vast majority of people DON'T actually know what it means. Will it fit a pram, a wheelchair, a weekly shop for a family of 4? Instead of saying "oh well the exact cubic capacity is X", show them.

That's a nice review, this car with petrol engine would be great little commuter. I still think cheap EVs are going to make you miserable in the long run, infrastructure is poor and expensive if you want to charge it elsewhere other than your house, the amount of different apps you need to install and the battery charging times are too high.
@ziggarillo2 ай бұрын
Infrastructure is fine, and you can get by with a couple of apps. I've only charged 3 times away from home in the last 2yrs. I occasionally get paid to charge my EV by Octopus, costs me about £2 a week on a bad week, when there no free electricity 😊 Charging times are not an issue when you do it when you get home.
