A very good friend of mine came back from Operation Iraqi freedom and had huge issues of driving in the middle of the road. He was used to trying to avoid IEDs and he lost so many friends that way that it was hard to de-program that. IT BROKE MY HEART!! Our vets DESERVE BETTER CARE when returning (or how about we not get involved in so many foreign affairs to begin with!!)

My brother did 2 tours in Iraq and when he was home there were many nights my mom and dad would wake up finding him clearing the house with his gun because he heard something and found him one night on top of their kitchen island saying someone was there. I have been held up at gunpoint by bank robbers once. I constantly think when the house settling noises are a little different or animals in the backyard make noise that some person is out there. Like, round-house when yer eyes are closed hard. Not ashamed to say a puddle of tears went into my concrete shop’s floor. As far as “The List”… F ‘em all. You have an epic family story the Breuer Veterans stories. The brief description sucked me in.. I want to hear more of their history. My Dad was a Veteran of Nam and Veteran Fire Capt. As his youngest I became his caregiver for his last 12 years. Our similar humor got us through many tense moments. I’m grateful he could talk about his experiences of War openly,though could hear his disrupted dreams some nights. Sadly it took 50 years to allow the real physical and emotional release of his past. I appreciate the stories about your father. My Grandfather was also in WWII. He was also in the Phillipine Islands and he’s from Kentucky. My poor Grandpa lost part of his hearing in that war. He came home with shell shock and PTSD… He had to sleep in a separate room from my Grandma because of the night terrors. None of us will ever truly understand what those men went through… My Grandpa was just 17 when he was sent to the Battle at Bougainville after seeing Pearl Harbor with his own eyes just after the attack on us happened. I wonder if my Grandpa knew your father… My Grandpa is going to be 99 in December. I’m blessed to still have him! He’s told me many stories about the war. I was able to get some recorded, but nothing he told me ever really scratched the surface of just how horrific it was for those young men. He earned a Silver Star! I think about his stories sometimes and don’t know how he survived, and for what?? For a country that’s turned its back on its own people. God bless your father’s soul and God bless all the Veterans out there!
