The Soviet and American soldiers meet at the Elbe river in April of 1945. East meets West. Let's not forget the time when we were allies. Maybe more than that, we were friends. We are all just people and we all want peace. Happy Victory Day!
Советские и Американские солдаты встретились у реки Эльба в апреле 1945 год. Давайте будем помнить о том времени, когда мы были союзниками, и даже друзьями. Мы все люди и все хотим мира. С Днем Победы!

As an American, I would like to salute and give my greatest respects to the brave young men and women of the Soviet Union and the USA, who bravely fought and died for their country, and for giving us the freedom which we now enjoy. I would also like to say that hopefully one day we can become allies again.

Thank you, my friend! I also want to salute and greet all the American soldiers and the Soviet soldiers, men and women that fought back the pure evil on this planet-Nazism and gave their lives in order to give us a normal life. Let all of them be remembered for the eternity, and let all of us would be friends, let it always be peace for American people, Russian people, Europeans and Asians, - for all the world.

Oh I can't wait for the moment when we become friends for real and forever. What is happening now is a huge mistake. But I'm begging you to remember that millions of people in Russia do not want this war, they understand that we are ruled by a dictator. I hope someday we will also have a statue of liberty. And our statues of liberty will be sisters. Someday this dream will come true. What a wonderful world!

As a russian-american with a great interest of general world history, especially war history, it warms my heart to know that such an event happened. The warriors of both my countries meeting with common interests and the same goals. At the end, we're all people, the guys were all soldiers who just wanted the war to end and to go home, as was said in the film. Nevertheless, it is quite saddening that shortly after the link-up at the River Elbe and the end of WW2, the United States and Union of Soviet Socialist Republics became bitter enemies in the cold war, and the US and Russia are still not on great terms today to say the least.

The Politicians are making things worse for the people. The people of russia feel the same way about politics. They know we're good people. They both suffered loss, tragedy and trauma. Officers and politicians didn't matter to those enlisted men who saw nothing but the men who helped them defeat the greatest threat to their nations. It was not a matter of country, but a matter of friendship between the Russian east and American west who together by bond and brotherhood even in the face of their difference defeated the grand threat of Germany. They were not allies, but friends.

There is a sublime harking back with films like this, in 2019 the relationship had been deteriorating for years, its almost like deep down knowing that it is doomed to get worse and a hope against hope aspect and reminding of optimisim of long ago to inspire people for better relations such films are often a prelude to a paradigm collapse

@@TonyLaPron indeed but as the decades have passed a naivety and complacency has increased and it almost seemed like the defeat of hitler and the Nazis had led to a fundamental change in human nature for Europe at least war to end wars especially with the end of communism with minimal violence, yet human nature is fatalistic perhaps because we are all mortal. The war in Ukraine has definitely shattered assumptions that have held for decades and is by no means over and predictions are bound to be wayward. I don't want war like most people but it is one of those things that will exist as long as humans do. In recent years there has been far too much regaling in WW2 and was becoming a dangerous distraction from present issues. All these newly erected monuments to past events trying to keep it alive when it's fading away. One thing this conflict will do for Russia and Ukraine is to make them think less about the 1930's and 40's which both had been doing too much of before ... and more about now.

@@marcusmeins1839 No, the Ukrainian problem is Zelensky's fault, he could have respected the Minsk agreements, Europe and the US should not be concerned with Zelensky's mistakes If he wants to be at war with Russia, let him forget the European Nations and the USA, enough suffering has been brought to us by this selfish dancer and actor

@@NİKOLAOS_1453 a lot of American are suffering financially because of this war going on. Putin tried to negotiate with Zelensky, and find solution to stay neutral to keep Ukraine safe long before the conflict happened. It’s devastating for both sides because of Zelensky arrogance decision. Russian families are losing loves ones such as their sons and fathers, and Ukraine is getting rip to shreds

You clearly dont know your history. Both the US an Britain assessed plans before the war had ended to attack the USSR. It never entered Stalins head as much an asshole that he was - Truman and Churchill were clearly bigger two-faced assholes. The Cold War was started by the West.
