When I heard the news of Dickey Betts' passing yesterday, I was physically sick at my stomach. Another huge part of my youth is gone. I grew up on the Allman Brothers Band and followed Dickey's career extensively. The song "Jessica" is why I named my youngest daughter by that name. Words can't describe how much he'll be missed by so many of us. Thank you for the years of some of the greatest music ever written, Dickey. I know Duane, Gregg, Butch, and Barry met you with arms wide open.

Was it the anniversary of the day he passed? Pearson and Burbridge didn't join the band until, I think, 98/99, so it couldn't have been the actual day. I saw a couple of the Beacon gigs in 96 and they did that, too. They also jammed on St Stephen in Whipping Post at those shows. RIP Dickey!

Love that "Franklin's Tower" intro - a throwback to their days collaborating with the Grateful Dead.

They never collaborated with the dead. In fact Gregory couldn't stand them. And I'd argue if you like good music you'd agree. It was more them playing at same venues and DB just loving a good intro to Blue Sky

@@davidbeil1642 Duane was part of a few jams w the GD. So was Gregg, for that matter I read his book and yes Gregg wasn't a fan of the Dead, but frankly? That was his opinion, not the band's. But it's easier to be musically sharpened up if you're only gigging 15 songs, while the GD had over 100 songs in play at any given time and just a vague notion what they were going to be playing and in what order on any given night. There's a difference in approach there that makes it tough to score the bands the same way. Both approaches bring great rewards.

Dickey one of the most lyrical players ever. Nothing to prove, just melody & phrasing. Even w the Strat instead of the usual Les Paul, his style is right there, undeniably him. It’s all in the touch. Legend.

Dickey Betts playin that Allman Brothers style music, those riffs totally awesome! I first saw Dickey when ABB came to town in Decatur, Alabama at Calhoun Community College back in 1971!! I have been to many many rock concerts including 2 Led Zeppelin concerts, Joe Walsh and the James Gang, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Mountain, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Bachman-Turner Overdrive, Kansas, the Outlaws, and Eric Clapton on March 26, 1978, however, the Allman Brothers Band is the BEST OF THE BEST rock 'n blues music I ever heard. 😎✌🎸🎸🎸🎹🥁🥁🎤🎤🎤🎤🎶🎵 and their sound all started with DUANE ALLMAN, GREG ALLMAN, DICKEY BETTS, JAIMOE, BERRY OAKLEY, BUTCH TRUCKS and their music is still being played on KZbin...

I had a Pabst Blue Ribbon in honor of Dickey last night and listened to this song. I had some great times with friends going to Allman Brothers concerts between 1989 to around 1998 or so. It was a special time and the band was in great form. Some of my friends, like Dickie, are no longer with us. Hopefully, we will meet again Back Where it all begins, we’ll all be singing and we’ll all be friends.

The man in question is Mr. Jack Pearson. Hailing from Nashville, TN, Jack Pearson played with the ABB from June 1997 through the fantastic March 1999 run at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. After two great years of contributing to the ABB's music, Jack decided to move on to work full time on solo and session projects. Jack brought a polished, lyrical slide and straight guitar to the ABB sound, along with his great song-writing and singing ability.
