When I heard the news of Dickey Betts' passing yesterday, I was physically sick at my stomach. Another huge part of my youth is gone. I grew up on the Allman Brothers Band and followed Dickey's career extensively. The song "Jessica" is why I named my youngest daughter by that name. Words can't describe how much he'll be missed by so many of us. Thank you for the years of some of the greatest music ever written, Dickey. I know Duane, Gregg, Butch, and Barry met you with arms wide open.

@@davidbeil1642 Duane was part of a few jams w the GD. So was Gregg, for that matter I read his book and yes Gregg wasn't a fan of the Dead, but frankly? That was his opinion, not the band's. But it's easier to be musically sharpened up if you're only gigging 15 songs, while the GD had over 100 songs in play at any given time and just a vague notion what they were going to be playing and in what order on any given night. There's a difference in approach there that makes it tough to score the bands the same way. Both approaches bring great rewards.

I had a Pabst Blue Ribbon in honor of Dickey last night and listened to this song. I had some great times with friends going to Allman Brothers concerts between 1989 to around 1998 or so. It was a special time and the band was in great form. Some of my friends, like Dickie, are no longer with us. Hopefully, we will meet again Back Where it all begins, we’ll all be singing and we’ll all be friends.

Probably the best road cruising music ever. Brings back so many memories of hauling ass down this great nation's roads back in the 70's and 80's. Jamming thru Kansas on a cool Sunday morning heading west...

The man in question is Mr. Jack Pearson. Hailing from Nashville, TN, Jack Pearson played with the ABB from June 1997 through the fantastic March 1999 run at the Beacon Theatre in NYC. After two great years of contributing to the ABB's music, Jack decided to move on to work full time on solo and session projects. Jack brought a polished, lyrical slide and straight guitar to the ABB sound, along with his great song-writing and singing ability.

Jack Pearson is one of the 2 or 3 best guitarists on the planet. from his stuff with ABB, his solo stuff, the acoustic stuff I've seen him do with Tommy Emmanuel... STRAIGHT AHEAD JAZZ STANDARDS... I mean, the man is a mix of Duane, Joe Pass, and Django. All hail Jack Pearson.

Hard to imagine the Allman Brothers without Gibson Les Pauls. But Dickey and Jack, they are the very best. They have a great sound whatever they play. Original Allman Brothers were the greatest ever.

Franklins Tower! Those years were great. You could go see The Grateful Dead and Allman Bros. in one summer. Both band were peaking again. Good times!
