Dicky Betts is the most underrated guitar player ever. Only Dicky could pick up a slide and learn Duane's parts in short time and do a damn good job at it and still cover his own parts. And he did this for quite a while too. ABB had two all time greats at guitar.

Many people think the Allman Brothers Band were from Macon, GA. They were not. They were founded and originated in Jacksonville, FL as were several 70's classic rock bands like Lynard Skynyrd who were also from Jacksonville. Two of Southern Rock’s architects, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Allman Brothers Band were formed in Jacksonville, paving the way for other Southern Rock bands, including local bands .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and JJ Grey & Mofro.

Southern Rock and Roll. I remember them playing Tampa back in '72 and they didn't stop for 4 1/2 almost 5 hours. Drum solo was 50 mins of just a$$ kicking battle of the skins. Have to agree wholeheartedly! I'm working on 76, USNR, and was aboard the USS Sealion, sub, Key West just having fetched some coffee in the galley, went thru the con and as I stepped into the Fwd Troop Compartment ( no torpedo rooms ) Crimson and Clover began to play on the boat's Subic Bay acquired stereo system, eat up with reverb, inside a steel hull...Ill never forget that moment in time, so long ago. The greatest music to ever evolve, and the band's that brought it to the fore'... so many remained forever young that were of that era. So many that succumbed later over the years...God Speed Brothers and Sisters who endured so much. Salute, and thanks to those that created the music that fueled our youth...We were the offspring of America's Greatest Generation. We were going to change the world, but the world changed us. Salute Sir...Carry On.

+Dena Henry I also saw Gregg open for SRV in 1990..at the old pier 84 concerts here in NY. Holy crap what a night that was. Gregg was killin it with Dangerous Dan on gtr ..and than Stevie Ray came out and literally opened up the heavens and put on one of my all time fave concerts that I've ever seen. I would put Stevie Ray up there with Duane and Dickey..as easily one of the greatest gtr players ever. My lord I can't even imagine all the music Duane and Stevie Ray had left in them. To me...they're deaths so early...Make up some of the hugest losses to music and humanity that we'll ever know. Life can be so unfair to take these giants when they were so young and had so much left to give/Share!!

Watching this, I got the sense that Dickey went to another level when playing with Warren. And who wouldn't be inspired, considering Warren's such an outstanding player also. He previously played in Great Southern with Dickey, so they had some history together. Of course, Dickey's a master guitarist in his own right, as he proves here. I think playing with Warren brought out the best in him, no doubt.

@SouthernRocker9 жыл бұрын
I agree, that is criminal!! For being the pioneers of the Southern Rock genre (Dicky hates the term) Dicky and The Allman Bros. Band in general have always been underrated. Even in their early years, they never received the amount of radio airplay that they deserved because their blues-rock sound was never the "flavor of the day". Sadly, most radio content is driven by record sales, ($$$) and not the quality of the music (add to that the list of "best guitarists", although it shouldn't be). Even today's classic rock stations seem to ignore them for the most part. You forget your roots (blues), and look what happens. We get the kind of emotionless crap that passes for popular music these days!
