@@donna3465 please, you shouldn't feel that way about getting old. Getting old is a blessing and a curse but to me it's a blessing but the curse is knowing and facing that you will lose loved ones and Friends, as time passes. The blessing is your legacy. The good and the bad will always be a part of life but when you say your grandkids and how your child run has grown and prospered and even when they've strayed it's always a blessing when they come back to Santa. And you can still have the Fulfillment of Youth love, enjoyment and your new interest and even some of your old interest can still bring joy to you. I filled those who fear or hate getting old die before their time because of anger calm envy and jealousy of those who are younger than you, instead of embracing Who You Are enjoying that person.

The first vocal tune, from their first album, recorded live in the studio. Van has laid witness to some of the greatest guitar blues to ever be played by a band, and why Duane Allman has the reputation of the greatest slide guitar player, while his little brother Gregg reps as the best white soul singer. Then on the record, they show why they are also the nation's best rock band, but they never turned their backs on the blues. I'm glad you have found'em! Keep on keepin' on.

I wasnt able to see Duane but I had THEIR albums and his collaborations with Eric Clapton on the DEREK AND THE DOMINOES ALBUM. ON BOZ SCAGGS LOAN ME A DIME and with WILSON PICKETT. I HAD THE GOOD FORTUNE TO HAVE SEEN. GREGG ALLMAN IN CLUBS in Atlanta in 1973 with BUDDY MILES and in 1974 with TOMMY TALTON & SCOTT BOYER WHO PLAYED GUITAR AND PETAL STEEL GUITAR ON HIS SOLO ALBUM "LAID BACK". QUEEN OF HEARTS IS MY FAVORITE TRACK . YOU SHOULD LISTEN TO EACH SONG THAT I MENTIONED. I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Gregg went to military school in my hometown and us locals called the cadets goobers. In 1974 I was at an all day concert with 250,000 fans called the August Jam. ABB were the headliners but Emerson Lake and Palmer stole the show. The ABB didn't come on until after midnight and Gregg was so messed up they had to stop the show to sober him up. With the 100 degree heat with high humidity and heavy drugs most people left. I am a huge ABB fan so I got right in the front. After Gregg came back out and there was a lull in the music I screamed goober as loud as i could. Gregg had trouble starting the song because he was laughing. It made my day.

Years ago, Rollingstone Magazine rated Duane Allman as #2 behind Jimi Hendrix. But, Duane was a myth, a legend before he was known by mainstream. Legend had it that there was this guitar player down south, (in the late 60's) that played the guitar without touching the strings. Eric Clapton eventually searched for him, found him, and Duane plays most of the iconic riffs on Derick and the Dominos Layla Album, most attribuite to Clapton. Later, Chet Atkins said, "That Allman kid has the touch." Even today, when other guitarists have figured out how to imitate Duane, (just as they can Hendrix), there are those who know Duane soars miles above.

It is amazing to me - this album was released in 1969 when the band members were in their early to mid 20s. The soulful singer, Gregg Allman, was only about 22, and his brother, Duane, the genius on the slide guitar, was about 23. Yet at those ages, they were making music that not only showed their souls were way older than their years, but their genius was strong enough to stand up to time. I was born and raised in Georgia, and lucky enough to have "discovered" their music early, and I've been a fan ever since. After listening to their work for over 50 years, I still love it enough to have it in my every day play list. What gifts they had!

Try "Mountain Jam" by the ABB on the "Eat a Peach" album. It's one of their long jam-type songs, but Duane will give your brain at least two orgasms during the playing. "You Don't Love Me" on the "Live at the Fillmore East" is another one. Duane plays a heavenly guitar on Boz Scagg's version of "Loan Me a Dime." EAR CANDY! In college (1970-1972), the house I lived in with 14 other fellows was always blaring with music almost 24-7; I believe a copy of this first Allman Brothers Band album was owned by every one of us.

Oh yes, an Allman Bros. fave of mine. Also Warren Hayes (while with the Bros.) wrote a song called Soul Shine.

Take is from a guitar player. If you’re doing the Altman’s you have to consider Statesboro Blues.😗

Imagine that live!! Almost all music is good for the soul if you let it be. I put The Allman Brothers up there with Bob Marley, Pink Floyd, Nas, and the rest. Too many to mention lol

I felt like I was sitting there with you when you described this tune as one of those fire-pit songs. I felt like we were related when, at the end, you described how that needle sounds when it's put down on vinyl.

One of the greatest songs of all time. Glad you've given it a listen. Duane Allman and Dickie Betts are fire on guitar and Greg Allman's voice and organ are from Heaven.

The ABB fixed rock. They fused blues jazz and rock all into 1. So much better than anybody else. They changed music for the better.
