Even without Duane they played like no one else. Listen to this powerful funky blues, Dickey is also undisputed master of guitar. And one of the last Mohicans. Know what I mean.

By far the best duo guitarists in history. Wish duane was still alive. Just imagine how good eat a peach would have been if they finished it. No one played together better then duane and dicky.

I agree with Neven. Duane was a once in a lifetime type guitar player, but the Allman brothers still rocked on after he passed. In 1973, they may have been the best live tour going at the time

@@davidterry4152 My 23 year old son is a lead guitarist in an up and coming progressive rock band and he know well of Betts and his playing....yes....he's up there... And he told me...it was amazing how much massive guitar talent came out of the 60's and 70's...

Without DA, and with Chuck, they became a great band. DA founded the band, he was around a while, not long, then gone. Dickey Betts and Chuck Leavell kept the ABB relevant. Frankly, each and every one of them Needed the others to be successful. Hugely successful. This isn't my opinion, Facts are facts. I'm living proof, Dickey Betts is my favorite guitarist ever. Idlewild South was my first ABB album. Wipe the Windows I can't love enough. But I've Never bought 1 cassette tape, 8 track tape, cd, or anything else that Betts did outside the ABB. I did buy the GA Band stuff.

Leavell, their decision to add a piano player, helped the ABB become an everlasting rock and roll force. I honestly believe, were DA still around, the band would've never done as well. He could turn great blues songs into a noisy mess at the end.

I'm not about to make a 'greatest' guitarists list, I'd never insult anyone by doing so, but when the ABB added Leavell, they ensured the ABB would last forever. These 3 went together like bread, peanut butter and jelly. As for me, there simply isn't anyone that can help me through an aerobic workout like Dickey Betts. There is no comparison to songs with DA, as opposed to after. DA, to me, was like Roy Buchanan. Great guitar player, but the playing eventually hurts your ears. This video clip, capturing Chuck, Greg, and Dickey, it's like the person that did it knew something that people would need to see 50 years down the road. My son, 22, can't get enough Chuck Leavell. He and Dickey, this group, they made the ABB.

Just IMAGINE Duane being up there bouncing off of Dickie?!?! This is a south bound rollin thunder train! Dickie so throws down! They all are! Timeless music! This could have been recorded today and it would still be far better than 99% of all music ever written. Imagine if they never got into drugs? Hard to believe that they were all such junkies.
