I am at 57 years old just now embracing electric guitar after decades strumming an acoustic. The transition is more difficult than folks had suggested, but, I have a playlist of about 227 KZbin tutorials, and I’m having a lot of fun, even if pinch-harmonics and sweep-picking confound me. Some commenters complained that this performance was too slow. I’m grateful. I’m inspired to learn some leads of Mr. Betts. I won’t be recording any tribute videos for y’all to suffer through, but I’m sure Dickey will bless my humble practice and over time I believe I can learn.

My Favorite Dickey memory is reading in the ABB biography Midnight Riders by Scott Freeman that during the early 80's Reach For The Sky, Brothers Of The Road albums era Arista records executives told Dickey that "Your cowboy wear was embarrassing. You guys should wear matching suits." So as we all know back then he he wore the tallest biggest cowboy hat he possibly could. And not a suit on any one of them. Damn right!

The Allman Brothers Band, we’re incredible to see live. I’ve seen them many times but the one that stands out the most was New Year’s Eve 1971 in New Orleans Louisiana. The Vimeo, the venue where it was held was like an old warehouse. The crowd size was small as I remember it didn’t have all of the stage lights and hoopla that you go to a concert and see nowadays. It was just good southern rock ‘n’ roll. The opening act was REO Speedwagon. Dwayne Allman had recently passed away in October and this was the first concert after his passing.
