To be honest, I think even back in 2000 the world wasn't ready or interested in a dinosaurs on the mainline plotline. A new island plot could have worked if they went for the DX disease route, so infected theropods would be like rabid mammals. We could still have a lot of the plot beats of JP3 like the new giant theropod, the aviary, andthe intelligent raptors but in a stronger plot. A new virus that could be a threat to humans would be a stronger impetus for the military to get involved and threaten to eradicate the dinosaurs while Alan Grant and co would be working on trying to concoct a cure.

Interesting! the way they wrote it sounds too unlike what Dr. Grant would do, but it would have worked with some rewrites. I love Jurassic World, but I never got why they didn't started the fourth film with the dinosaurs in mainland, the ending of JP 3 left clear that dinosaurs were going to get out of the islands at some point. I would have liked a story with people discovering that dinosaurs have been in mainland since years ago and start from there.

I adore that idea so much. Having grant by himself to work with or watch dinos is awesome. Yet I hate the idea of making a filler movie just to make the movie you really want. That filler movie needs to be just as important as the rest of the story.
@muigokublack64872 жыл бұрын
I still want that. A version of Dominion that played more on the idea the franchise had always alluded to that dinosaurs being on the mainland was game over for humanity particularly by using the lisense disease idea from The Lost World novel and in a bit of getting real, would jump from dinosaurs to humans because of dinosaur meat being seen as something of a luxury. Perhaps resulting in a Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes-style ending.
@dubuyajay99642 жыл бұрын
I find it interesting the Topps Comic Books were pushing the story further along and earlier than the actual films by having stories such as mercs capturing raptors and loading them into airplanes to go to the mainland. Right after the first film. Long before Lost World.

I think the series as a whole, including the 1º book, wastes the issue of dinosaurs on the continent. The first few chapters of the book are based on Compsognathus sightings (and attacks) on mainland, and if I'm not mistaken the velociraptors at the end were looking for a way to get off the island. it seems to me that the subject disappears along the plot. I haven't read the second book, I could be wrong about that.

I would argue that the franchise is potentially still salvageable; the original pitch for JP3 is that a plane load of kids go down on one if the islands, and the parents have to find a way to break in whilst the kids have to band together to find a way out. What do you reckon Fioriti, worth a video?

I think the ending of JP2 was the first big mistake in the franchise and the film couldve been as good as JP1, from hearing about different scripts for JP3 it seems yes indeed there was an idea in there that wouldve also been on par with the first film, the ending twist of the military attack being cancelled by Grant getting the place operational and staying there is fantastic and uncomplicated for sequels. There is more than enough quality to work with with dinosaurs and JP never needed to copy other films for a cheap buck (I have no idea why they rushed it to get the movie out before Godzilla etc as Ghostbusters 2 already trumped the city disaster scenario it was nothing new) later JW films kept making the same mistakes trying to change too much when dinosaurs were already a winning formula, and trying to force every film across as PG rated which unfortunately hams up the films a ton because you get highly improbable hollywood/disney scenes in place of people getting butchered by dinosaurs, everyone lives the dinosaurs lose all contrast as antagonists and yet the films still try to push the dinosaurs as antagonists .... In JP1 the dinosaurs had all the contrast, they were scary, a few extra seconds of footage on each kill and a couple more main character deaths and it couldve been a 18 rated film, it was genius how it was shot to allow for a wider audience to enjoy it while remaining the same atmosphere as a more serious film. All that was missing from JW films, they were disney channel catered as much as I appreciate dinosaur films. The winning formula of the contrast between dinosaurs and humans wouldve been explored wonderfully in JP4 had Grant stayed on the island, a number of dinosaurs wouldve become familiar and not a threat even some carnivores, all the things they tried to do with JW like the training of the raptors while they are caged and trying to make a empathy bond was all a really childish version of what they couldve had Grant experience by himself on the island which wouldve been much better, instead of hapless humans getting eaten (or in later films not) there couldve been scenes that followed different dinosaurs perilous paths and encounters with hungry carnivores, something that wouldve kept the dinosaurs scary and exciting action to watch. For example Grant encountering a pack of herbivores and becoming familiar with them like pets until a big predator forces the migration of smaller hunters unwittingly towards their territory, Grant sets up traps and saves a few re-homing them in the main building but the rest was a bloody massacre and a dinner bell to the larger predators who end up fighting the packs of raptors and a big settling of the dominance ensues. Then the reveal (at least an hour in), the large predator was herded by a company who are filming a illegal but high stakes battle royale survival tournament for the rich and stupid where people are dropped off via helicopter and have to survive 2 days on the island of dinosaurs to win, they have no idea Grant is there or that they have unsettled the wildlife, the T-Rex herded along to hunt the contestants also causing mayhem amongst the dinosaurs territories. Grant far from being isolated has comms with the mainland and at some point of noticing the intruders calls for backup which re-unites him with some of the former cast + new characters Owen and Claire who he teaches about the dinosaurs behaviours and how to earn their respect, Claire taking the same role the Lawyer in JP1 was supposed to have going from a business orientated snob to becoming a courageous survivalist by the end of the movie. Battle Royale part of the film done by the second third, the main building and the power was damaged by the intruders, Grant and co need to escape. Last third of film puts the dinosaurs back in the spotlight and Grants understanding of where the territories are eventually saves everyone Next film involves some kind of JW project there with the idea of co habitation on the island but its Biosyn and it all goes wrong spectacularly. It doesnt need to be about kids, why is it always about kids??

gotta ask this because I feel like I'm just not typing in the right search words, but did you ever manage to continue recording the dino crisis gameplay?
@Where_is_Waldo Жыл бұрын
I personally think that the way to get dinosaurs on the mainland should have been at the start of Jurassic World where they should have just had a brief explanatory sequence in which they depict dinosaurs being successfully caught by well paid mercenaries to provide them to wealthy people who want to show off to their friends that they have pet dinosaurs, then they escape on the mainland. It would have made more sense to have god knows how many dinosaurs escape this way from captivity under people who would have been inclined to keep it a secret even after an escape who might have kept them in remote locations where people wouldn't notice they were keeping them as opposed to a handful of dinosaurs divided among numerous species escaping in a populated area and then a few years later they not only haven't been caught or killed but have reproduced exponentially. They also could have made an extra tie in game in which you could play as a mercenary setting up and expanding a base on one of the islands as you collect dinosaurs and sell them. The park builder games could still have been made exactly as they are. You could even include the two poorly motivated GE hybrid dinosaurs from the crap Jurassic World movies that made no sense because, well, no explanation for them at all would have been at least as good as the explanations they gave in the movies: "We want an invisible dinosaur as a zoo attraction and it won't possibly be hard to care for." and "We already have sniper rifles and laser guided RPGs and laser guided air strikes so let's develop a laser guided dinosaur which will be more obvious and create more collateral damage than a sniper rifle or laser guided RPG and cost multitudes more to develop and make than all the equipment involved in a laser guided air strike, not to mention food, medical care and just caging of the animal." 🙄 This alternate start to the Jurassic World series would have left plenty of room for new and interesting storylines for a full trilogy and it even would have had a relevant message for viewers (unlike the actual trilogy). That message being that it's dangerous and irresponsible to keep wild animals as pets, especially in an environment that can't handle them if they get out.

I enjoy Jurassic Park 3 because it was the first Jurassic Park film I got to see in theaters, and I do enjoy the Spinosaurus and some of the other new dinosaur additions. But I think the movie could have gone a much better direction regarding the story. It's interesting that they had so many ideas but just could not decide which way to go for the story and to set up for future sequels. Imagine if the draft with Dr. Grant staying on the island became Jurassic Park 3 and the next idea for his character led to JP 4 and perhaps the final version of JP3 were to be a later sequel as well. If they chose Spielberg's idea, then JP4 may have come much earlier than Jurassic World. There would be potentially more films and a much more expanded universe and franchise. Jurassic World could have been a third trilogy if they kept those earlier ideas. JP3 seemed to have a lot of references to the original concepts and revealed them through the franchise. Such as with Dr. Grant staying on Isla Sorna and doing research during which is mentioned to him during his lecture scene. And the alpha Pteranodon reminds me of the boss Pteranodon in the JP3 arcade. Also, the military strike ending reminds me of the ending in the Gameboy Advance game JP3: The DNA Factor.
