I disagree why do I understand what you're coming from there's nothing wrong with certain animals especially a T-Rex being an antihero or something because there's been plenty of stories featuring animals being heroes or anti-heroes why can't a dinosaur be one. That being said not every single dinosaur has to be scary but that doesn't mean that can't be less dangerous for example in Jurassic world camp Cretaceous and chaos theory there what's a T-Rex name big Eddie and while she definitely has some action and Hero moments the show made it very clear that she was still a giant carnival that will bite you if she's hungry or feels threatened an our main characters mostly kept their distance from the animal

Honestly I loved JP 1 and JP2 right up until the San Diego incident - thought it ruined what was other wise a great sequel by cheese decision making and reactions from the characters involved. Besides that and the scenes showing the dead crew with no visible damage to the bridge or showing how an Adult T-Rex could get at crew inside the crew quarters in the giant wheel house and lower crew areas, the scenes with John Hammond talking about animal documentation and later conservation at the end I thought was another thing that threw a kink in the movie as his prior performance showed the true terror, anger, and helplessness of the creatures he had made. Surely if the animals still exist more than just a nominal quarantine of the island would be in place with far more activity by law enforcement and military as the potential for someone to try to grab these dinosaurs and possibly having them loose outside of Isla Sorna would have to be known as a threat. With JP3 I did appreciate some of the scenes with the Spinosaurus versus the humans but beyond that the movie was pretty poor. Definitely should have shown possible more medical labs showing the experimentation that helped create the spinosaurus or atleast leave open the possibly of other monsters lurking on the island, drop the T-rex fight as nobody wanted to see the T-rex lose and most know that a T-rex is a one-bite killer with its powerful jaws and teeth. Took it away from a horror movie to a cheese Godzilla versus type monster movie. Plenty of better ways to show the power and potential of the spino like when it crashed through the concrete and steel fence barrier. The raptors were overplayed and far less scary than in the first or second movies. Just like in jaws - showing less is better when it comes to horror and especially in Jurassic Park until absolutely necessary.

Another example is the Giganotosaurus. The Jurassic World movies feel more like marvel movies banking on nostalgia, and I can tell they've been neutering the franchise to appeal almost entirely to kids who just want to buy the toys. Which I hate to say as someone who has a big JP toy collection, the modern toyline is so oversaturated I just lost interest in like 99% of it. Like I'll give the first JW credit for doing a pretty good job at bringing franchise back to life after a 14 year hiatus. It's also worth mentioning that a lot of JW dinosaur designs are very, very ugly and generic looking. Only a few actually stood out to me in the whole franchise. Some aesthetic about them I just don't like, they look too skinny and lanky. JP dinosaurs were bulkier and had a lot of mass to them. Fallen Kingdom had its moments...but the pacing was really bad and it started that corny "save the dinos" theme, Camp Cretaceous had its moment as well, at the least the first few seasons but it still suffered from cringe dialogue and looney tunes level logistics. It amplified the whole "cute-ified" dinosaurs trend to another level. Then Dominion came along and....I don't even want to talk about that garbage fire. It was like nostalgia was the script and nothing else. I could tell there were scenes were the writers made the throwbacks so on the nose that they think you're stupid. Like "Hey...this is a throwback to that one scene from the first movie...and the last movie did it too, did ya see that? Huh? Huh? Yeah...ehh..ehh? Clever huh?" *Facepalm* ....And the Giganatosaurus? Hyped up as "the Joker" for it to do literally nothing but bully the rex out of its meal for 10 seconds? It didn't even eat anyone or kill anything. We can only hope that Rebirth gives back to the fans and doesn't waste time trying to cater to kids.
@MistaGoodbytes4 ай бұрын
@@bretbuckley704 Agree with you 100%. I enjoyed the first Jurassic World movie even though it didn't really capture the feel of the original. Since then the Jurassic World movies have gone the Marvel route by constantly trying to be biger, louder, action movies. In the process they lost that sense of being somewhat grounded in reality that the original trilogy had. I have never considered Jurassic Park as an action movie. It is far more suspense driven with a few action sequences included when the narative requires. I also wasn't a fan of the new dinosaur designs either or the concept of the hybrids. I know some people liked the Indominous Rex and the Indoraptor, but when I watch a dinosaur movie I want to see dinosaurs based on ones that really existed. And on the subject, I wish Jurassic World had featured more scientifically acurate dinosaurs. In the Jurassic Park trilogy the dinosaurs were modelled based on scientific knowledge at the time in the early to mid 1990's (yes, I know some artistic licence was used but generally the dinosaurs were fairly accurate for the time). However, now we know more about how dinosaurs really looked, why didn't Jurassic World reflect this? I get that the original T-Rex and Velociraptor models are now iconic in cinema history so they would want to keep that, but instead of having hybrids, why not have had more accurate dinosaurs instead? This could have been explained in the new movies as being due to improvements and refinements in cloning technology. There is a section in Michael Crichton's Jurassic Park novel where Henry Wu and John Hammond disagree about how dinosaurs should look and behave. Hammond wants people to see "real" dinosaurs and Wu thinks that the dinosaurs that have been created are different to peoples pre-conceived ideas about dinosaurs should be like and it would be better to modify the DNA so that the dinosaurs move more slowly. This could have been adapted for Jurassic World as a way of haveing more accurate "real" dinosaurs vs the older style dinosaurs from the first trilogy. If they want to improve the next movie, the producers and Gareth Edwards should focus on going back to the original Jurassic Park's themes: 1. The dinosuars need to be scary, that is the basis of the cautionary tale. 2. Focus on suspense rather than action. Who could forget the gradual build up to the T-Rex attack from the original move? No music, the soft sound of rain falling, then boom... boom.. boom "You feel that?" Then all hell breaks loose. That is a masterclass in suspense. 3. No huge cast of actors. Jurassic Park worked because of the small number of talented realtively unknown (at the time) actors. It helped ground the movie in reality and created a sense of isolation. 4. Scientifically accurate dinosaurs!!!

Agreed. And while the argument will be made that they did the same thing with the banner in JP, I'd say that in that case, a sequence of natural behaviors led to that cinematically designed moment. Rexy roaring after taking down the two raptors, showing dominance and releasing tension, and the banner coming down after the wreckage that happened before. There's no such buildup imo with the volcano. I did however cry with the Brachiosaurus at the dock, that was beautiful, horrible and extremely sad, and a perfect wink to JP.

What I love about the first three movies is how real everything feels (Especially JP1 and Lost World), not just the dinosaurs but the people as well. Fallen Kingdom was a step on the right direction but sadly, after seeing Dominion, it felt like we needed a sprint, maybe if they didn't listen too much of the criticisms from JW, we could have had the darker version that could have brought a darker message. Humans can be greedy like Hammond, and sadly they can be narrow-minded, irresponsible and capable of doing dangerous and stupid decisions like Mills. I can easily see someone in our real world making a theme park without considering what should matter most, and/or weaponising living beings for war if they have the funds, stupider decisions happen all the time already without having Dinosaurs in the mix, and that... Jurassic Park doesn’t have to be terrifying or scary but there has to be consequences to choices people make. No main character died in JP Dominion. Everyone came out unscathed out of that film even after being chased by dinosaurs! The first film is damn near perfect. You didn’t know if the main characters were going to get eaten or die some other way. Now, it’s some sort of action/adventure buddy comedy. I would like to think that the majority of us, if in a similar situation, would act like Genaro more than a stoic hero of a man like Dr. Grant. It’s the choices we make in those scenarios that define us and our characters. Gareth Edwards is a great director and, while not perfect, Rogue One, Godzilla, and The Creator were good films. Let’s hope he can turn it around! If he can’t, I’m going to believe that JP cannot be well-adapted outside of the first novel/film.

I agree with the missing value of humans element in modern films. They do feel soulless. Maybe JW 1 killed it with the mention that dinosaurs aren't scary anymore, people want more teeth. Yeah, people who could visit dinosaurs for about 10 years, perhaps would want more. That's a sad truth about us humans we get bored with things too easily. But I don't think the audience has lost interest in them. So why add locusts to a dinosaur film. Maybe they need to kill a main character or someone that is close to a main character, like when Ripley lost her daughter in Aliens. Add more layers, and more depth to the characters, not more teeth to the dinos, so we care more about them and they have more depth to their persona. I would like to see fans on the writer's board like Klayton, who has in-depth knowledge and genuine passion for the success of the JP franchise, its us that buy the tickets and merchandise after all, so we should have a save in pre-production. They are starting to do with English Football teams like Arsenal.👍👍

It’s my biggest gripe about JP, needs to be scary like the books but I’m aware it wouldn’t have sold as well if it was.

I do think Jurassic Park needs to have the balance to where it feels scary like The Lost World movie style, I do think it doesn't need to be like rated R horror movie style. I do think the franchise needs that balance where it feels scary but to where it does have it's light hearted moments.

Also I agree and am looking forward eagerly to see whatbthey do with the new movie

they have to break canon for this to happen because with how the universe currently stands, its completey family friendly and backwards.

Legit was on the edge of my seat sometimes reading the first book. The way the dinosaurs are so alien and the genuine fear in the complete unknown of what some of them are capable of really made me love the franchise even more.

Couldn't agree more, if you read the book and compare it to the movie, its obvious that was Spielberg's direction. He wanted to build the suspense and fright at just the right moment to scare the audience. Much like in the original Alien. Please bring back the suspense and scary factor that was JP 👌

Good video great outro. As someone who grew up as a kid who loved paleontology and was obsessed with Jurassic Park, I was raised Catholic but lost Christ in my teenage years and have come back around near when you have, though I still struggle greatly. I feel a kindred spirit in you. Love the videos! Been a fan for years.

I love this style of video!! And yes, JP should be scary and cautionary. And you absolutely got Grant's arc in the first movie solidly correct! And that's why I hate JP3 for what they did to that. Hate it. .. I always felt like JP was about arrogant man thinking he can do what he wants only to find out that there's dire consequences that *will* come back around in the end.

Hello, great video sir I agree with you. I think one of flaws of dominion is that it's not being dedicated to the idea of the consequences of dinosaurs bring brought to the mainland. It's real shame because there could been some great Michael Crichton style themes to explore with them as an invasive species and how both people and modern ecosystems would be affected by their impact. Instead we get this safe ending like somehow it's all gonna work out into peace and harmony. Plus even some herbivores should be portrayed scary and dangerous based on how aggressive modern ones are. Just look at rhinos and hippos for example.

I remember being 7 and just coming home from watching Jurassic Park. I went to the bathroom to take a leak and all I could think about was a raptor slowly creeping out it’s head from the bathtub. We had dark green shower curtains, so couldn’t see what was inside if they were closed. Core memory and I love that.

Something filmmakers need to hear! Hopefully one day you can direct a franchise steered down the suspenseful path again. We love scary dino’s and realistic content! Thank you!

For me the scary part about JP that needs to return is the theme of man’s hubris and science run amok. Warring gentech companies and billionaires getting eaten alive (metaphorically and literally) because nature DGAF. That’s what has kept me hooked on the first two Jurassic movies for so long.
@vixen4204 ай бұрын
They're bringing back animatronics too, That's what made jurassic park for me. I hope they make this movie more like the book, darker, grittier, scarier.🙏

Jurassic Park requires a balance between the beauty of nature and the horror of what it's capable of. The Lost World was a great example of showing the T-re family and still have them be a huge threat to be feared.

There needs to be CONSEQUENCES. They have to get away from only villains getting killed (except for Zara). They need to get away from main characters with plot armor stronger than Superman, where they survive everything and are never in actual danger. They aren't supposed to be mindless action stories.

We even give them names now like Blue or we call the one that is supposed to be the villain Rexy! 🤷 So I agree with you that the FEAR needs to comeback, we need to be AFFRAID of the dinosaurs again like back in the 90s for this movie to succeed.

if you dont find blue scary... well i dont know how to help you. shes potentially more scsry than a normal raptor because you know where you are with a normal one. animals like blue in real life are less predictable and more dangerous because of the behaviour they bring out in us.

This was a terrific analysis and I agree with you however, I wonder if because we feel this way, are we automatically setting up future installments to be automatic failures? I wonder if the scare factor has worn off and we are contributing that to bad writing. I am reminded of what Ian Malcolm said in the Lost World film when they stumble upon the stegosauruses. He says: "oh yeah, ooh aah, that's how it always starts, but then later there's running and-and, screaming. And then you couple that with what Claire Dearing says when she tells Grady that people now look at a dinosaur the same way they would a giraffe and Owen says: "They're dinosaurs, wow enough". The films have this sort of self-awareness to them in regards to how we see them, but then by the time we get to Jurassic World the audience just isn't enthralled by dinosaurs anymore. We're too busy nitpicking the special and practical effects. I can't help but wonder, did the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park stop being scary, or did we simply just stop viewing them as scary? I think it's the former because I've seen fan work on a much lower budget that is still very terrifying and thrilling. But I would like to hear your take on it.

@Enk643 ай бұрын
100% Agree. Never felt the terror and threat of 'The Lost World' in any of the films that came after. If it needs to be a horror film then so be it, because that's what the novels were, horror stories disguised as adventure Sci/Fi.

Absolutely. The reason I dislike the Jurassic World saga is they removed most of what made JP scary. The T-Rex became too much of a hero. They made the raptors sympathetic and Blue became a protagonist. I get excited when I have JP-related "nightmares" because they at least provide me with that sense of fear that is sorely missed in the series.

@SHVideografie4 ай бұрын
You completely hit the nail on the head. JP trilogy contained humor but the emphasis was mostly on the terror that the dinosaurs brought along. In the JW trilogy the emphasis is too much on comedy and action. Bring back the horror and terror! I remember I used to have nightmares of the T-Rex and Velociraptors.
@harjindersokhi98524 ай бұрын
I think that Jurassic World in particular is culpable for the neutered carnivore approach. The Velociraptors were portrayed like hunting dogs. While this is stylistically pleasing, it renders them entirely devoid of any menace or threat. The Indominus Rex and Indoraptor were just created to be cool, they weren’t scary. When you compare and contrast that with the first two Jurassic Park movies you have two very different beasts. I’m all for more threat and peril, most importantly, I want the dinosaurs to have unpredictability and menace, it makes for great cinema!
