Wolf population would likely regulate itself if left alone since available game would regulate # of packs. What needs controlled is the number of people!!!!

Here in Oregon we also have an estimated 6000+ Mountain Lions, the largest population in the states.

Yowlumni pack in Sequoia/Kings Canyon: A breeding pair of wolves was discovered in the forest in the summer of 2023. The pack is named after the Yowlumni band of Tule River Yokuts. The breeding male is from the Lassen Pack in Northern California, and the breeding female is from the Rogue Pack in southwestern Oregon. The pack uses about 300 square miles in the forest.

Wolves moved into California a few years ago after the were exterminated statewide over 100 years ago. I love that we have native wolf packs again in Cali!

I love wolves! They are beautiful animals and actually shy away from humans unless injured or threatened. A pack can range from 2 to 400, but usually averages about 6 or 7. I hope to travel to New Mexico this coming summer to visit the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary!

The packs self determine by whom they exclude. Packs can be large or small.

On I-95 in North Carolina I saw a red wolf lying on the side of the road, (it had been hit and killed by a car). Sad. Here's an idea: Instead of hunting wolves in Idaho and Montana they should relocate them to CA or some other states.

It's much more complicated because wolves and coyotes interbreed to make Coywolves. In NC two judges banned killing coyotes in some counties because hunters could not distinguish the hybrids from the coyotes. A hybrid of an endangered species like the Red Wolf is also given extra protection. The coyote hybrids are better than wolves with special skills like handling dynamite, giant slingshots, and painting fake road tunnels.

I'm from Minnesota and I hope our number increases. I know we have a lot, but we need more wolves. There are a lot of deer here and it becomes a safety concern for driving and damage to land/property. Plus, are NBA team is called the Timberwolves. Just an FYI.

We could learn to live with these amazing creatures if people actually gave a damn. I love wolves, they are so beautiful! There's a video called how the wolves changed the river, and it's about the reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone. The elk population in Yellowstone just exploded when there were no wolves there. They destroyed the ecosystem, grizzly bears couldn't hunt, it just was stupid to destroy them in Yellowstone. I believe it was Theodore Roosevelt that did it. He said they'll kill all the elk, never mind that they had been living side-by-side for thousands and thousands and hundreds of thousands of years.

Sadly there haven't been any wolves in the wild in Pennsylvania since the very early 1900s. There's a really good video that shows how reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone National Park completely transformed the ego system for the better as he briefly mentioned. The biggest reason they were almost extinction at one time was because ranchers and hunters killed them indiscriminately up until the early 20th century.

The horrendous practice of trapping should be outlawed. It's about as inhumane as our species can get.

You would expect that by this time in history we would have outlawed trophy hunting, and strictly regulated all other hunting and fishing including commercial for the sake of the animals, yes, but for the sake of the earth and our own future generations. Are we not as smart as we think we are? 😔 I believe that all native animals should be cultivated back to natural levels. I do believe, however, that first nations peoples should be able to follow their native traditions for hunting and gathering as desired. Interesting video. It may sound odd, but sometimes living in the U.S. wild animals do just come by for an unexpected visit. Depending on who you are, you either consider it a great gift, or a frightening nuisance I suppose. I once had a Mountain Lion take up residence in my garage for a few days. Go figure. Have a Happy New Year! Peace

Farmers fear loss of their herds. But the wolves do balance the ecosystems. The activities of some have actually redirected rivers for reasons to complicated to go into here.

I heard England used to have wolves and two other things you guys got rid of. Wild boar? And then some sort of wild cat? No, that can't be right. Do you know? I live in WA state on the OR boarder (state abbreviations) and I'm not a fan of wolves. I get they are good for the eco system but we have an animals already being taken by the smaller coyote. Of course not so much in the PNW where we have trees that cats climb. I have videos of (on my channel, not monetized just personal) that show coyotes walking right by cats. They are not as interested in pets as once believed. But wolves will kill a coyote in a heartbeat and I think that is what they are talking about via Yellowstone, etc. Coyotes have taken over america worse than starlings (I do love starlings though)
