In the mountainous countryside of Chongqing lie the Dazu Rock Carvings. This UNESCO World Heritage Site needs to be seen to be believed. With the oldest carvings dating from the Tang Dynasty in the 800's and the majority from the Southern Song dynasty in the 1100's there is some real history here - Enjoy the video and keep up to date with the pagoda progress on the google map link below....

I have only heard of the Dazu Rock Carvings. From your video, I saw the sheer scale of it, which is really shocking. After watching a lot of your videos, I found that you are interested in Chinese Taoism and Buddhism. This is really interesting.

Greetings from Florida, USA! I have been to Mogao and Yungang, but not to Dazu. Amazed by how few people there are, indeed a great enhancement of one’s experience. Fantastic video.

Nick, at 3:17, a statue shows its fingers. I saw a fine stick or iron wire in its right little finger. Most likely you did not see the same thing. Yet it means a lot to Chinese history. It might worth to visit the same site again with an ultra-sound instrument to detect whether the stone carvings were hollow. Or to tap the belly of those statues with your fingers to hear echoes which confirms hollowness of the statues.
