Well while we wait for this masterpiece by Or3o and Kinger’s VA, here’s a sugar cookie recipe I found! Prep Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 10 mins Total Time: 25 mins Instructions * Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper. * In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt to combine. * In a large bowl, use an electric mixer fitted with a paddle attachment on medium-high speed to beat the butter and 1¼ cups sugar until light and fluffy, 2 to 3 minutes. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the mixing bowl. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla, and beat until combined, scraping the bowl down as needed. Slowly beat in the flour mixture. * Place the remaining 1/4 cup sugar in a shallow dish. Using a large (3-tablespoon) spring-loaded scoop, divide the dough into balls, then roll in sugar to coat evenly. Damn... I LOVE this! If Kinger had the lucidity to communicate how he felt when the light keeps him in his "sunken place," for lack of a better term, this is what he would say. His friends, starting with Ragatha and Pomni, who have likely seen the most of his grounded moments up to this point, help him keep his grasp on reality by keeping him involved in the adventures, despite his spacey-ness. And if you think about Kinger in chess terms, Kings can move in any direction they want but ONLY one square at a time, and their defeat means the game is over and the other side wins. Meanwhile, Queens can move in any direction they want (except in the Knight's L-shaped pattern that's unique to them) for as long of a path as they like, like a Bishop and Rook combined, which makes them the most powerful when used correctly. Generally, it's a risky move to use your Queen because if she's captured, the King's greatest defense is lost. You usually keep her as close to her King as you can, until you've lost too many other options. A King's defeat is called a Checkmate. When they're threatened, that's a Check. They can hop one space to try to dodge, but without the other pieces' assistance, primarily the Queen, there's not much he can do but hope someone can defend him with what little he has left. Kinger feeling like he's in Checkmate because he's lost Queenie is SO depressing; Hopefully his strengthening friendships with Pomni and the others will keep him from losing... Unless his "defeat"/demise in the game IS what ends the game? He seems to know a LOT more about the Circus than he lets on, which has spawned a lot of theories. If that's the case, it could go good or very sad: Kinger could die in real life, sacrificing himself/his sanity so the others can escape, OR Kinger losing his life/sanity will be the last piece needed for everyone to escape and go back to their normal human lives.
