LOL ... I dont think this is happening. Well by late 80s precision was mostly dominated by the quality of the motor. Proof of that are all the Yamaha and JVC deck with plastic flywheel able to maintain W&F better than 0.8. Motors got so perfect that they could deliver "constant torque" over a certain range. But, as they are not enterely closed loop circuits, they suffer from ageing. This is the second part they got perfected. Unfortunatly the 3 or 4 well known brand that have been manufacturing this motors for tape decks, are not longer producing them. Also, people interested on trying it again should take notes on simple mechanisms that were still low W&F, long life and just a bit more complicated than the average cheap tamashin thing, The ones used y JVC Hitachi Fisher on the bottom line soft touch decks. I think this is good enough to selll the ilusion of a "cassette come back"

Nice to see someone bringing back turntable features that were commonplace in the 70s and 80s are are almost extinct now because of the audiophile less features = more premium thing. They should make a full size version though - wouldn't add a whole lot to the cost to put on a bigger platter and put everything in a bigger cabinet. They could include a matt and call it the "pro" version.

Absolutely perfect. it was speeding up and slowing down, easily visible and audible. Not much you can do about it at this price point; the DC motor needs some sort of servo device attached to the motor otherwise the motor keeps on accelerating, that's why better belters use synchronous motors with a lot of poles. The speaker isolation was a cheap way to sort of, I repeat sort of isolate them from the cabinet which basically makes them free air. Better if the platter was isolated and the box sealed or ported.

@dougbrowning8211 ай бұрын
Works better that way. A belt drive doesn't deliver enough torque to drive the automatic feature. That was the failure with the Auto-stack changer in the early 2000s. All the vintage changers from the 1950s to 70s were either idler drives or hybrids with AC synchronous motors.
@GenerallyGroovy11 ай бұрын

I'm actually considering this. I don't normally much care for modern record players with built-in speakers, but this actually looks like a fine product. Already in my head I'm considering mods. A 16 rpm mod could make this a worthy stand-alone Seeburg 1000 player. A while ago you mentioned you would look into mods for the 16 rpm speed with these modern belt-drive turntables, have you come up with anything?
@vwestlife11 ай бұрын
Unfortunately the DC motors in these turntables can't be modified to run at 16 RPM. You can speed them up to 78 RPM, but not slow them down much more than about 24 RPM.
@scratchpad795411 ай бұрын
@@vwestlife Agreed, in the realm of average record listening, 16 RPM records are almost unheard of, probably because they won't fit on a typical 33/45/78 turntable. I have some 78s somewhere, so it was a little bit discouraging to see that this player doesn't have a 78 option on its speed selector.

I use a similar "robot arm" turntable from the 1980s. A great improvement for old folks with clumsy fingers and poor eyesight. The "plain" full-auto (no cueing) turntables are almost always fine, too, but sometimes the starting groove is just not exactly there where the mechanism thinks it is. The caveat is, of course, that there's much more things to fail.

I love it when we've been sold on a load that only a novelty record player can be made for less than a hundred. This blows that up in screaming fashion with nice sound, even adding a sound system so it can be used alone. We've been told this repeatedly regarding cassette decks too. Makes one wonder if the people behind this might consider that? Here's another thought. This player could be any young person's starter table, how about putting the same effort into a real audiophile turntable at an amazing price? My 2-cents is just make a new AR-XA, or even better that final more refined version called AR The Turntable? No need to re-engineer these designs, just make new tables using all the same parts. My prediction, if they did do this and were able to keep an eye on price, it would be a market disrupter. While, perhaps, Linn wouldn't worry, it I would be nameplates made by, and including, Project that would feel a chill in the air. Good video. I always get excited at good audio for a bargain. Even though this isn't something I would likely buy I have total respect for what this funny named product achieves.

Not bad at all. Looks like one of the best new record players you can get now.
