I liked how starting with this film, that they showed: what happened to his parents, how smart Peter is, his sense of humor as Spidey against bad guys, and that Gwen was his first love interest instead of MJ (just like the comics).

The scene when all the crane operators in New York work together to help get Spider-Man to The Lizard is honestly one of my favorite moments in all of comic book movies. It shows the love and deep connection between Spider-Man and New York City, it’s beautifully shot, and it has an AMAZING score by the late great James Horner.

This is what spiderman should be, fast talking, clever, mocking his enemy, even the web shooter also developed by himself. I fell in love with Emma Stone in this movie. What I liked was that she was no damsel in distressed. She was brilliant and courageous. I also think she may have ad libbed somethings. A few times, she repeated or simplye said some lines really quickly: In the hallway at school: "Want to what?" Later: "Yeah, either one." On the balcony: "What, what?" Later on the balcony she turns, looks at Peter, and lets out a chortle. I guess I'm a little bit of a romantic, but this movie was much more personal than typical superhero movies. Saving the earth from evil is great, but this movie affected me emotionally, which is why I can watch it repeatedly.

Andrew Garfield’s version is actually the most comic book accurate Spider-Man in the movies. Everything from the Web-Shooters, to his character arc, to his initial attitude are 100% Peter Parker from his first appearances.
@Caseytify

Except Parker was never that smooth or confident with women. McGuire played a better Parker, while Garfield played a better Spider-Man. ... Personal observation: I am so _sick_ of seeing a bad guy/critter shot several dozen times with automatic weapons, yet gets away with nary a scratch. Yeesh. That's just lazy writing. In this case Conners is a smart man. Can't they show him evading or outmaneuvering the men shooting at him?
@thomaskilroy4573

@@Caseytify And I am fucking sick of people making that stupid statement regarding Garfield and Maguire. Garfield IS Steve Ditko’s Peter Parker. And Maguire played a brilliant Spider-Man. The only people who say that Garfield was a terrible Parker are the ones who have never read a Spider-Man comic in their life. If those people are such experts on the character then how come they seemingly forget that Peter was an ASSHOLE in his first appearance. Before he learnt with Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, he was a moody, entitled little shit that literally said apart from May and Ben the rest of the world can go to hell. He only became likeable and friendly once he learned his lesson. And the same goes for Andrew. His is the most realistic 21st century Peter we’ve ever gotten. People like you shit on him because he isn’t a stereotypical ‘Nerd’. But come on, Nerds are not the kind of people who get bullied nowadays. The kind of people who get bullied are the Outsiders. The kids who sit at the back of the class and don’t talk to anyone. The loners with no friends. That is the kind of person Peter Parker would be today. He grew up abandoned by his father, that messes with someone. He is selfish, he has a problem with authority, he has a chip on his shoulder, because THAT’S HIS ARC! His transformation into the Spider-Man we all know and love does not happen right away when he first puts the suit on. He wants revenge. He’s after the guy who killed his uncle. Thinking that will bring him peace. It isn’t until the dinner scene that Captain Stacy’s rant begins to talk some sense into Peter, he realises he hasn’t been doing the right thing, and that path is not what Ben would want him to go down. The bridge scene is the true birth of Spider-Man. For the first time, he saves someone else, he acts selflessly instead of chasing his own vendetta. When he tells the young boy to put on the mask and climb up since it will make him strong, he realises for the first time that his symbol can actually inspire hope. He see’s the boy returned to his father and he understands now, he has been chasing his genius, scientist, biological fathers legacy and past so much that he neglected his real father, Ben, the normal, everyday, working class man who raised him until it was too late. He will never get the chance to hug his true Dad again. But this boy will. Because of him. Revenge won’t solve anything. But after saving this boy, he feels something he hasn’t felt since Ben’s death. He feels better, lighter, like some of the guilt has been lifted, even if it’s just a small fragment. This is what Ben would want, this is who he can be. A hero. Marc Webb described the movie as the story of a boy who goes out in search of his father and ends up finding himself. It is only then, after the boy’s father asks who he is, that Peter finally says it for the very first time in the film. “I’m Spider-Man”. And yes. Peter Parker WAS smooth and confident with women once he had already started going out with them. Are you seemingly forgetting the early scenes where Gwen tries talking to him and he’s a stuttering, open-mouthed mess who can’t even string a sentence together around her. He only becomes smooth once it’s made abundantly clear she likes him. Again. JUST LIKE THE COMIC!

I argue Maguire's is the most accurate, even taking into account the lack of web shooters. I never read Ditko's i guess since the Parker I'm familiar with wasn't a Skater Boi, a bad boy, who won MJ over with that attitude. 🤔 He worked at the Daily Bugle, struggled with his relationship with MJ, and became estranged with his best friend. Also Doc Oc and Green Goblin were the closest to the source material from the comics. Only Goblin's suit wasn't accurate. These stood out and made the Toby Maguire/Sam Raimi films the closest to the actual comics. The Spidey trash talk was a bit better with Garfield though for sure. Last comics i remember reading were right after i finished the Clone Saga from the 90's. Those comics sort of made me lose interest in Spider-Man because they did a lot of dumb things and had a lot of convoluted stories. Such as undoing Norman Osborne's death which was such bs and took away from the Death of Gwen Stacy comics. I'm not familiar with the Ultimate Universes Spidey. But I think from other comments that's what Garfield's movies are based off of?

Well, Peter Parker WAS more a bookworm type, bullied by the jocks, as seen in the McGuire films. That is the Peter I recall from the comics and the 1970s cartoons. I actually liked the trilogy cos it stayed largely true to comics/cartoon canon, and whatever changes they made (like switching his chemical webbing solution fired from gauntlets to organic webbing fired form his own wrist "spinnerets") actually worked well. And come on - J K Simmons as J Jonah Jameson? You cannot improve on that casting. Even Aunt May looked like Aunt May - hair bun and everything. If not for Garfield's portrayal of Peter as "not so much a bookworm nerd" and other changes, I may have preferred these films over the trilogy (especially cos he DID meet Gwen first, before MJ)... but I just can't go with Sally Field as Aunt May (Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben, sure, that works)... but, in fairness, she's a better choice than Marisa Tomei (in the Home trilogy). Making her a hot MILF? Why not just make her black, too? Talk about "Far From Home"... Ultimately, I think both McGuire and Garfield both bring a lot to the character(s) and you really can't go wrong with either one... I have yet to see the Home trilogy, so my judgment of Tom Holland's portrayal remains suspended.

I hear so many critics complaining about this film being "poorly written" ; in my own defense, I would word it differently as to: I wish there was more descriptive measures in the storyline and character development. If that were to happen, it would turn out, in comparison, as "The Justice League" and "Zach Snyder's Cut" ; that's how much detail there would've been in these 2 ASM films. That would easily top my best Spider-Man films to date, if that did happen. One could only imagine. Since it didn't, it really doesn't matter. I still think its the best I have ever seen. Different Universe, different Peter Parker, different story, minor similarities, and underrated.

Spectacular Spiderman comes from another timeline, multiverse, where he falls in love with Gwen. So there are differences, and this one is more confident. Remembering also that in this last movie released now the girl is not called Mary Jane, but Michelle Jones. And the most interesting things that in another timeline Gwen becomes Spidergirl, shes was bite saving Peter there at the beginning in this film. For me, Garfield is and will be the best Peter Parker. He plays him as an intellectual. That's Peter in the comics too. And he uses science to solve a problem (cold versus reptiles). Maguire brings me too much slapstick into the role, is a little too dumb for me. The same can be said of Tom Holland, but he has the plus that he plays a very young Peter Parker. Also, I don't like the fact that he is Stark's "Robin". Peter Parker never had a mentor in the comics. Everything he achieves, he achieves on his own, that's something I like about Spiderman. Honestly it's revisionist history to act like this movie was bad and disliked when it came out. This was a positively received movie by both critics and fans. They even had to deal with Tobey fans who were still bitter(not blaming those fans btw) and weren't ready to accept a new Spider-man yet. But yet it was still enjoyed and received well. It's when the 2nd film came out, that was actually not received very well, in which it would affect the future reception of ASM1. Awhile later, like a few years later after ASM2, the narrative would then become oh both ASM films were actually bad. It's such bs, people used their hate for 2 and used it to also say the 1st one was always bad and disliked when that was far from the truth. Honestly if you rewatch this one and OG Spider-Man 1, preferably ASM1 first then watch SM1. I would bet lots of people would say this one was actually better than the OG Spider-Man 1. Green Goblin was definitely the highlight of the OG one but everything else this one did just as good(both Tobey and Andrew being great Spider-Man) or even better than the original(Gwen and Peter). There's so many good scenes that outclass the OG one. The crane Bridge, the taking off mask for a kid, giving said mask to give the kid courage, the 1st PoV shots, this Spider-Man's scientific intellect actually coming into play both during fights and outside of them, the handcuff escape into the confrontation with Gwen's dad, the creative ways he uses his web shooters, crawling all over Lizard just like a Spider, and of course all of the Gwen and Peter awkward but adorable interactions! Those were the best, especially when he reveals to her his secret identity.

Magy: This movie is so romantic. I'm not complaining at all. Me: Oh my Sweet Summer Child. But yeah, there was certainly some Andrew & Emma chemistry because they were dating in real life as well. And I was really enjoying this derailed trilogy. Mainly because of Emma's Gwen Stacy. I am just such a huge fan of this comic book storyline. And they do it right in these movies.

Yea people compared them at the time and didn’t like Andrew Garfields that much.. but that was mostly because people were expecting a Spider-Man 4 which never happened so people weren’t to happy when there was a reboot with a majorly different back story.. years after tho slot of people have changed there mind and actually appreciate how good it is because a lot of time has passed and it’s not something to really go crazy over and compare anymore but more so just admire how they’ve changed throughout the years

Hey, Magy. I loved this movie a lot. I thought the visual style, James Horner's musical score, and the realistic re-imagining and portrayal of the title character was great. And Andrew Garfield was incredible with his performance, adopting his superhero role. But the number of underdeveloped story-lines was already used, as the origin story has be told twice. Anyway, it was a really great superhero film, which probably the best of the four Spider-Man films since "Spider-Man 2". Thumbs way up for me on "The Amazing Spider-Man". The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) 4/4 👍👍👍👍

Normally I don't like when movie producers/directors change everything up from original comic book canon in these superhero movies, however, these changes were not bad, some even interesting - like instead of letting the thief escape from the arena after robbing the promoter who just stiffed Peter on his prize money after winning a wrestling promotion contest, they have the thief escaping after robbing a convenience store that has no ties to Peter whatsoever - they just kept Pete's indifference which allows the thief to escape and go on to kill his uncle Ben. This store version is a lit more linear and moves things along a little more quickly without being rushed. As for the villains, Lizard was done very well (staying mostly true to his comics canon appearance) but Electro and Rhino (in the next movie) sucked. I hated those changes - a blue Electro wearing a hoodie? Come on...

And I am fucking sick of people making that stupid statement regarding Garfield and Maguire.

The reason they made this movie was actually because real Spider man fans wanted the real spider man from the old comics, and with Gwen being his first girlfriend and not MJ because there are things concerning it that are important to why Spider man is Spider man This versoin of Spider man is actually the closest they ever gotten to catch Spider mans personality, and he should never really grow up from being that genius with the perky comments :D But I can't wait to see ur reaction to the second movie Oh btw, u might know the saying "The road to hell is paved with good intentions", it is true for many villains in super hero movies :)

1:51 - This was the problem with the earlier movies. Andrew Garfield was a GREAT Spider-Man, but not a great Peter Parker. I thought the reverse of Toby Maguire. Thankfully, Tom Holland plays both roles very well. 🙂 11:25 - "I think that you showed off too much here." As much as I enjoyed this movie, this was one of my complaints. He does several things out in the open that no one questions. It's like they all dismiss it as, "Well, that's puberty for ya." No. Puberty doesn't allow for a five foot vertical leap or bending a goal post with a football. 12:38 - This speech... It was the clumsiest way to say, "With great power comes great responsibility." It drove comic book fans a little nuts. And it seems you have the same sentiment. 22:54 - It's kind of funny hearing Denis Leary say that he stands for law and order when his standup comedy was so... sarcastic and chaotic. 24:55 - I *adored* this sequence! One of the greatest "hero moments" put to film! ❤ 30:25 - This scene was trimmed down. The filmed a couple of girls in the bathroom when the Lizard showed up and he... ummm... licked one of their faces. It was more than a little creepy. 30:45 - In the comic books, Spider-Man can lift 20 tons under optimal conditions, so this is actually a fair fight. 😉 32:14 - I *LOVED* this CGI! It really was reminiscent of a spider wrapping up its prey. Oh... and I'll be sending you a written message. (Hint hint.)
