Great video! I like that you mentioned structure and health, because many breeders don't care about both together (not only in the bully, but in other breeds). One thing I think you should have also mentioned in this video is how wide the nostrils are and how long/short the soft palate should be. Since the american bully has a short muzzle, it's crucial that breeders breed dogs with well open airways (wide nostrils + short soft palates), otherwise they'll become as compromised in breathing as english bulldogs. That is a bit more tricky and goes into anatomy. Which I will cover later in a video dealing with congenital ailments. But I have to do my research first. And realize this is not my full-time job so I'm not too sure how soon I will be able to get to it. But it is coming!!!

wow i heard about the extreme/exotic but knew nothing on tht crazy how it changes but i agree the compactness shuld be an overall trait to a point i think xl bully wuld look a little weird if to compact so i wuld think they wuld have some leway on that size group? another trait other than obvious like big bone compact and blockyness i look at is eyes more oval than round and wider apart i like that more in the trait as well

I have a beautiful female pit I was thinking that if I breed her with a nice clean bully it would thicken up her litter and keep a nice pit look. I think you should fix your female. If you want to breed do it right. Throwing a Bully to a Pit could be a recipe for disaster. First off there should be way more infrastructure in place when breeding a dog. Do don't breed a dog to thicken up the puppies. I know there are a lot of folks out here breeding just for kicks and giggles but breeding is a serious endeavor. You shouldn't be mixing breeds, who knows what the temperament of the puppies will be. Do you even know your female's pedigree? I would ask that you not breed the female if you don't have a pedigree for her. If you want to breed, take it serious, do your research, have a plan before you buy the first dog you plan on breeding, and if you breed, do it right which means spending a lot of money on vet bills, shots, whelping boxes, kennels etc. Good luck bro and remember, if you know better you should do better.

I have an American Bully that is 100% pure, based on Embark DNA testing, all the way back to his great grandparents. However... he does not look like any pictures of the bully breed. He is 60 lbs, and looks like a pittie or a staffie. I rescued him from the shelter and they said he was a "pit mix". Embark DNA says he is a purebred.

there are more than one type... yu have micro or pocket which tht dog fits 14 tall then yu have standard or classic which is 16-19 tall and xl bully which is taller than 19... structure is mostly the same for standard and pocket xl's though are not as compact but carry a little bit longer muzzle n body type... still blocky still proportionate for the most part... but yes there are 3 types of american bully aka standards.

the fact is there is not more than one type, there is more than one size. proof being that you didn't list types of dogs you listed sizes of dogs. now in practice there may be some phenotype differences in the classes but in theory the point of any breed is consistency no matter the size. So as I have detailed the breed type it applies to all sizes of the breed. Again I understand that is not the reality of today but that is and should be the goal for tomorrow. The dog in the video is a hair under 16, I've seen him wicketed.

ok true but if and when the American Bully is truly established as a breed compactness will be a trait that exist in all classes. I've talk to high ups at the ABKC and I know that's their vision for the breed. Like I said the way things are is not necessarily the vision for the breed. I had heard that the Extreme class had been eliminated but when I check the site it was still listed. I'll talk with someone tomorrow to get an update on that.

I have a beautiful loving Pocket Pit her name is Sophia Loren. I got her from a little old lady on a street corner when she was 12 weeks old. unfortunately that means I have no papers and no information on her. apparently I'm not able to register her unless I have her spayed and then she can be acknowledged by the ABKC. All of that is such a shame. Do you know is there a dog DNA test that could help to answer the question of her American Bully lineage? A friend suggested that I should try to find out her pedigree if it's possible with DNA testing. Does anyone know anything about something like that? not for acceptance into the Kennel Club because apparently that's not going to happen but for my own information. Like one of your other commenters I have a bumper sticker that I made on my car it says "Sleeps with American Bullies" and the other one says "My Bully is my teddy bear" lol and if you've ever slept with the bully you know that it's more like do you mind if I have a slice of my own bed please? I understand thickness had a lot to do with the American bully but that doesn't mean you should over feed or have excessive fat on you dog because that doesn't make them look thick, it makes them look fat.
