Thanks for another informative video. When I do see Robins in the winter in NJ, only a few normally alone and they do look ragged/bad feather, dull colored and struggling waiting for warm day. I'm still seeing the American Robin flocks passing thru Ocala FL (been for weeks). Yesterday a neighbor took a picture and asked me what it was - I was happy it was a Robin as I know that one. Yesterday in Ocala saw a pair of House finches and day before a Brown Thrasher. Today while walking in a busy small but wooded park in Ocala I heard a Yellow Warbler. In Ocala, I'm still seeing pair of Cardinals, a Eastern Phobe, pair of Carolina Wrens, a Catbird, a Palm Warber a Mockingbird at my mealworm feeder.. I have hummingbird feeder up already, but no Hummers yet but do see a Catbird visiting it about once a day !

You’ll have hummers soon! They are already on the move through Florida! There are still a ton down here though. Last year completely left the keys around April.

@@FloridaKeysBirding Thanks! I do not know bird watchers in Florida( yet), but want to share that at 11:00 am today 3/6/2023 in Cala Hills condo community in Ocala Florida, I saw about a Dozen Swallow Tailed Kites soaring low ( eye level) ! So interesting to watch they were gone quick but for the short time it was an amazing experience at they got really close to me, until they went up high and as a loose group the glided away. Called my birder friends up in NJ as seeing this was too thrilling to keep silent I'll be heading back to NJ in April, but super interesting now in Ocala just walking or viewing thru window, as so much bird activity.

We have them around here in Jacksonville FL pretty much all winter, didn't know they get to the Keys so late. Nice easy going informational video as always. 👍

16:00 Where do male robins roost? I am struggling to imagine anywhere that 250,000 robins can all fit in at once.
@FloridaKeysBirding Жыл бұрын
Ide think in remote areas like national or state park maybe that many robins can roost during breeding season. I’ve definitely never seen it, but would be very cool to see! I know during meeting season I’ve frigate birds roost by the thousands near Marco island, along with other wading birds.

@@FloridaKeysBirding Ah I see. My question was more what sorts of objects the robins roost on. Is it mainly tree branches (and if so, is it the same trees as the ones the nests are in)? Or bushes, buildings, caves, etc?
@FloridaKeysBirding Жыл бұрын
@@issarice I’ve personally observed them in trees, and on the ground foraging for insects, but I don’t get the chance to observe them during breeding season since they do not breed in my area. We get them in the Fl keys as a migrant from time to time. The be observed them more in other parts of Florida. But According to the Cornell lab of ornithology: Female robins choose the nest sites, which are typically on one or several horizontal branches hidden in or just below a layer of dense leaves. Nests are typically in the lower half of a tree, although they can be built as high as the treetop. American Robins also nest in gutters, eaves, on outdoor light fixtures, and other structures. In western prairies, American Robins may build their nests on the ground or in thickets, while in Alaska they sometimes nest on buildings or cliffs.
