Tom conducts open battery compartment surgery on the fire alarms, another light makes it's way into the garage. And Alexa appears to have the need to be told twice to turn the kitchen off.... 26 minutes of awesome content.... As a sparky, check the date on the side of the smoke alarm. As if they are the ones that were installed once your house was built they may be over the 10 year date they have. As all Aico Smokes have 10 Years date from manufacture, and also if you do need new ones they dont make ionisation alarms (ones with radiation) anymore and would be able to have optical detectors

The beeping at the start is a low battery warning in your smoke alarms. Even if they are hard wired they will still have a battery back up for when there is a power cut

However, she’s mentioned with the gas and air canisters they should be stored sideways and above 5 degrees otherwise they become toxic! As someone who works for the fire service around smoke detectors, the "radioactive" bit is Americium and has a negligible effect on background radiation so its nothing to worry about

Tom when we had our little ones we set up a command for the nursery to have the lights come on at 10-20% power. It helps with the late night changings and its enough for you to see and not fully wake up the little one.

Yes Tom. Smoke detectors are radioactive. They usually have Americium in it. Americium is a good Alpha particle emitter. Alpha particles are pretty safe as something like a sheet of paper can stop alpha particles. Essentially there is a detector on the other side of the Americium source and if something disrupts the path of the Alpha particles into the detector it sets off the alarm. And as I said a sheet of paper can stop the particles so thick smoke can stop the alpha particles as well setting off the alarm. The battery is for the detector and alarm part of your smoke alarm.

On some AMG vehicles (not sure minimum year) you can make the car start louder. Hold one of the paddle shifters down with your foot on the break whilst starting and it should have a louder start up. It’s called Emotion Start

PS. Tom the smoke detectors use radioactive material to detect smoke. Because when smoke enters the detector, it disrupts the flow of particles coming from the radioactive material, thus triggering the alarm.

Possible fix for the kitchen lights - in the alexa app you can make Routines with custom phrases, so type the phrase you want, and all the lights you want it to control and it *should* work. You will have to make 2 though, one to turn on and one to turn off. Loving the vlogs btw, best of luck for the future!

24:30 Create a "routine" within Alexa that turns off that group of lights (Kitchen) with a customisable voice command instead of trying to turn off the group directly, that should solve that issue for you, while allowing you to say whatever you want.
