Set it to 50hz for better experience. All those games were written for PAL systems. I think it suggests to do so on the first boot up of the system

@@jimkrom i went back and set it to 50hz and played most the same games. Didnt notice any real difference. But didnt pay attention to it suggesting keeping it at 50hz unless your monitor doesnt work with it lol. Either way it works fine for me.

I got mine day one. I only played A500 one time, at my cousin house. My mind was blown when he loaded Mortal Kombat, that at that time I could only play in the arcades. I remember also seeing Another World for the first time, another mind blowing experience, and I enjoyed playing Super Frog. a platformer game that got HD remaster for PS3. I would love to see the video of you trying some of the best and more popular Amiga games. I would recommend: Cannon Fodder, Fire and Ice, Robocop, The Great Giana Sisters, Skidmarks 2, Gunship 2000, Xenon 2, Super Frog, Barbarian, IK+, Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off Road, Turrican, T-Zero Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge 1 and 2, Rick Dangerous, R-Type, Silk Worm, Jet Strike, Banshee, Uridium, Fighting Spirit, Shadow Fighter, Breathless, Skeleton Crew... ok, I think that's enough.

Best mini computer yet, I've been waiting for an Amiga plug and play for more than ten year's. I love the Amiga it had fantastic move quality music and sounds and vibrant grafix on most games. There is just something about the Amiga you can't get from anything else.

@@bigbabatunde1218 Amiga was a computer though, not a console. Many used it for other things as well. Many started their first steps in 3D designs and rendering on an Amiga. It was pretty powerful for it's time. Probably the best you could get before IBM PC's obliterated everything. Do you remember old early 90's magazines and Tv shows? They could have a very amateurish looking for our days font showing the name of their title or graphs they used to show you things. They were something that you can now do in a simple image editing software in a minute. Well many times those things were done in Amiga's back in the day. Plenty of grown people like programmers and graphic designers used Amiga.

When i was a kid and got an IBM PC clone other than playing a little with Windows 3.1 after installing them and adding a mouse(graphical environment OS with mouse support looked crazy to me because i only knew MS-DOS until then) i spend most of time playing games as well. Doesn't change that as a machine it was quite exciting for people who knew how to use all it's capabilities. And it certainly wasn't bad at games ether.

I can't get anywhere in Banshee lol . I still managed to do well in Silkworm even though i hadn't played it since the 90's. It's not as frantic as the arcade version though but i guess that was to be expected as that version has so many more objects on screen at times that would have overwhelmed a standard A500.

As has been pointed out it suggests leaving it at 50hz unless your tv doesn't support it. Guess I didn't pay attention lol, BUT I went back played the same games in 50hz versus 60hz and didnt notice much in the way of a difference. Everything works fine for me. Just make sure 5v 1amp minimum for power to not have any emulation issues just in case. Also another note I believe I misread my notes, shoulda said 512kb ram, missed a couple numbers my bad.

Some games will run pretty weird and faster than they were intended at 60hz. You might find a lot more of these issues when messing with downloaded games

It would be finicky if you were dealing with the actual Amiga 500 and a monitor setup. Through emulation, besides maybe some slight speedup/slowdown, I think you'll be okay.

For me its a dream. Works so well and I like the CD32 style controller and that amazing mouse clicks. So far it works really well and allows the disaster of Commodore Amiga being buried in history by those igonrant. I strill owned a 1200 and 2 CD32's after originally owning an A500 1.2 as a child. This is brilliant to show my kids my personal gaming history and the demo scene the Amiga was famous for.

I hate the controller, joystick would've been the go, shoot diagonal or to go diagonal just sux....that's biggest let down and sd card should've gone where the floppy disk drive is, 2 controllers and USB stick....need a USB hub as well, I've still got my A500 but fitted with gotek and A1200 has all the whdload

The Amiga 500 was huge in the UK. Its fans are very dedicated. The early 80-90's in the UK was very about Home Computers *and* consoles. BBC/Spectrum/CG4/Amiga/Atari ST. I thought it sucked, I had a Japanese Mega Drive.

Yeah that controller it comes with is unfortunately annoying too often. It has great input lag which is very low but movement is just off lol. I have a 6 button PS3 arcade Joystick that works pretty well but i might try a Series X controller with a cord.

The A500 mini is certainly the way to go if you just to want experience some awesome Amiga games from the late eighties and nineties. Love that it's able to run whdload patched games, that gives it support to more than 3000 commercially released games.

looking forward to this one! the Amiga500 was one of the most memorable gaming platforms of my youth.. next to the snes and Gameboy but the later had no Wings, Pirates!, Monkey Island, Barbarian or Moonstone ;-) edit: and SpeedBall2 ..oh this does have speedball and stunt car racer... many good old classics but so much more are missing at this price point I'd expect 50 - 100 games

Nope. I don’t like mini systems with too many games on it. Once you reach a certain number of games, adding more doesn’t add value. Instead it diminishes the value of each game.

@@manuel0578 I have a ROM collection of thousands of games, so I get what you are saying, but that effects doesn't set in at this low number. If you consider people preferring different genres etc then, I'd say, it absolutely makes sense that you "need" more than 25. You could easily include 4-6 or even 8-10 epic point and click games. Maniac Manson, Monkey Islandn1&2, a few Larry games, Kings Quest, Space Quest etc etc all are "must haves" .. and that's just 1 genre. Then you have the side scrillers like Turrican games, prince of persia... sports ski or die, sensible soccer... For 140 USD I'd expect most of the classics to be on there.. You can load them, sure, but out of the box would be nice.

It has over 4000 games to download for free. You only need a suitable USB disk around 8-16GB is ideal i found. You can even load up the old demos from the Amiga days. it is incredible value for money compared to modern consoles.

I bought the original Amiga 1000 with 1080 monitor back when it first came out in NYC circa 1984 IIRC. It was amazing for its time. I no longer have it due to moves over the years, but I have many fond memories. I wish I still had it sometimes. If they ever make a full size A500 reproduction with working keyboard I might consider one.

Glad you're having fun with the A500 Mini; been loving mine. Been able to delight in Qwak once again and discover new games to enjoy such as Stunt Car Racer. I do wish the system came with some digital manuals for the games though as I have not a clue what I'm doing in Cadaver. As for game recommendations, well I have no idea what is available through the website, but my immediate suggestion is Fury of the Furries.

So I admit part of the reason I got purchased 1 is in hopes that it is popular enough that they follow suite like the did the VIC 20 and the C64 and make the larger ones with working keyboard. Even though I have original 500 I would like a recreation. I remember in high school I used my a500 for special effects in some movies. And teenagers in the 80's even putting on scrolling text was only something the pros could do. Unless you had a500. I had genlock and program to put real scrolling titles on my movies.

I think this works for a lot of Europeans, because micro computers were their gaming machines for a long time. For me though, the things I liked about computers was everything else they could do. If a mini IBM PC is ever made, it better have a working keyboard so I can play Sierra games!

You can plug in a USB keyboard and all but the [ ] keys on the keyboard can be replicated. For these 2 only you need to use the virtual keyboard. For the Amiga keys you just use the two Windows keys.

I very much think this is a mini for those who loved the Amiga back in the day. The mouse is all about nostalgia for "The Tank" mouse which came with the original A500. I think they changed the design for later iterations such as the A600/A1200. The issue you had with Cadaver required you to press the 'Esc' key on the keyboard as it uses a saved function for you load a save from 0-9. This is one of the reasons why this mini needs a keyboard and why I'm waiting for a 'maxi' version like they did for the C64. If they don't then I'll be happy using my real A1200 and emulating on a PC. Also your comment about the pause button was quite funny. Computers games often didn't have a pause button and joysticks only had one button. Games that did have a pause often used 'p', space bar or one of the function keys to pause it. They should have done some remapping for these functions on the included games.

I've always wanted to emulate the amiga games but couldn't justify buying a PC just for that. This has been a nostalgic overload. Genuinely the Amiga has some of best arcade games you can play right now. It's all about having fun... also being able to load in other games too is amazing. First games I added were SWOS, Project X and Battle Squadron, so much fun. Also, I don't understand how some people are saying it is overpriced? I paid £115.00, so if you only consider the 25 games in the price, that's roughly £4.60 a game, so you can reduce that if you take into consideration the console, mouse and gamepad you get with it.

Zool has a jamming soundtrack if you don't have it set to sfx like you had. Many of the games are "free legal downloads" but it's mostly the really good ones. I run my stuff on Amiga Forever but this thing looks cute and convienient. Does it only do WHD load stuff or can you use the regular .adf files or .rp9? The Sentinel (The Sentry) was really cool on the C-64. I can only imagine it would run smoother and faster on Amiga. Also you said it could do AGA games. So how far can it go? Like the usual A1200 or can it do A4000 stuff like those super impressive scene demos smoothly? I think typing goldfish on the zool menu activated some level select cheat if I remember right.

Hitting the wrong button to start the game reminds me O Yaaa other people also know about start and select LOL. Playing games with my kids or nephews I'm constantly telling them to hit the start button and they they look at me like I'm stupid lol. Thats the dumbest change to gaming. Definitely when the NES mini was announced I imagined the system would have 100s of games but no!👎 You'll think that with today's technology that would be the case. I don't know how many games the Amiga 500 had but 25 seems like a paltry selection. Why not 200? These companies are just stingy.

Licensing complexities. Likely the more games they licenced the more it would cost. Also it isn't clear for some games who owns the licences.

Because they rather charge a monthly online fee to Switch owners to play N64 games. Only reason we even got the NES Classic and SNES Classic is because in 2016 Nintendo was hurting financially and needed some sort of incoming cash flow with the Wii U essentially on life support at that point and the Switch being about a year out from launching.

@ $140, definitely not worth it! Around $40, maybe. Think twice...even then a hard pass. This pos is laggy with some games, faster with others (and this is for the pos games they included, you'd think they'd optimize them somewhat). Not even gonna touch them not including SOME beloved classics...If you add your own, there's no artwork and you have to customize each on a case by case basis by finessing Amiberry, so what's the point of getting this over rpi and an image which is already customized? This POS500 mini is also clunky with both a mouse and a controller and it looks like a beige spider took a dump on your desk imo. Definitely SHORT of Amiga standards and totally missing the mark. I wouldn't hold my breath about a maxi with the predictably large amount of returns ... some memories should be left alone. I predict this will eventually stabilize around $39-49 (less than the C64 mini). Now I'm praying that, hopefully, Sega + partner put out a good Saturn mini if they get to it in the next five yrs. and don't soil memories like this...

@@ramseydoon8277 He's been popping up in a lot of reviews moanig about it, lol. For sure it's a but pricey but unfortunately this is the world we are in at the moment. Container costs have shot through the roof, as have chip prices and game licensing costs :(

I never got the Amiga 500. It was at best mediocre at its release. It had some very weird limitations. Like 2 fixed-panned 8-bit wavetable channels on the left and 2 on the right. Stereo imaging was horrible, they should have done mono sound. Most games stopped playing BGM when firing a bullet, hence most games did not have BGM outside the menus. Sprite processing was also very limited. The Amiga had a really hard time doing scrolling or even worse, parralax, combined with lots of moving sprites. A big contrast to the 1987 game console: the PC Engine. For games that was a true powerhouse. As a creative platform Amiga was way behind the Mac (design) and Atari (music). When you want to be a design, music and game computer, you can only fail on each aspect. But the Amiga was cheap, and many have nostalgic feelings for it, so this will probably sell a ton. Unlike some great other mini consoles, wait a bit and grab this when it is in the sale basket at Wallmart or Media Markt for sub 20 bucks.

Nope Its pants most of the 25 games have bad glitches some of the games you need a keyboard instead of a fake keyboard the pick off 2 pants should have been sensible soccer but that wouldn't of mattered because the leggy game pad .lost patrol is not a a whole game and when doing combat or sniping you can't move the bad dudes beat you and you can't even walk towards them also you dig in when you do that its meant to feed and rest you squad but they are always tired and always hungry pinball don't make me laugh so unrealistic and glitch. F16 you need a keyboard matter of fact all the games are as bad none truly catch what the smiga was and how the games felt ..save up another 200 quid and buy a good condition original. Like the mega drive and the other except PlayStation one because it was a play station one . I keep reading all these fake reviews people going for the number of likes and subs rather than keeping you straight. Especially the ones that get them for nothing never ever trust their reviews because they are basically paid agents getting stuff for free like the usb stick they get along with the emulator
