The Amish are NOT the most empathetic people you will ever meet when it comes to animal welfare. They will take care of their horses and cattle only as much as it takes to keep them working and producing. A buggy horse might be tied up for hours in the hot sun with no shade or water, tormented by flies because the owners won’t put fly spray on them. I’ve never seen my neighbors call a veterinarian. If an animal is sick they usually only try some home remedy. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn’t. That applies mostly to horses, cattle, and other livestock. As for cats and dogs, they are not pets. You’ll never see one inside the home or even in a doghouse and they don’t buy dog/cat food for them. They just wander about the place and are expected to feed themselves on whatever they can scrounge up. They find shelter in whatever place they can, whether it is -20 or 95 outside. The Amish will not interact with them by talking to them (other than an order) or petting them. They are never spayed or neutered so you can expect to see litter after litter running around the barnyard. Very few will survive past a year or two. Some buy a dog from a breeder for varmint control. Those are the puppy mills that others have mentioned. I’ve seen one or two of those mills and I can’t imagine a worse place to live. Great Pyrenees and Australian Shepherds are common varmint dogs. And as for outright cruelty, that’s more common than you might think. I’ve seen Amish beat a recalcitrant horse or dog mercilessly. I once saw our neighbor kids tormenting a small kitten while it cried and cried (I never saw that kitten again).

@@fedup6969 It is still common practice on farms in Germany (where most of the Amish originate) to keep a barn cat in the barn where they take care of the mice and to not let them into the house. That would be considered unhygienic and rightly so. Now we know that cats can carry toxoplasma gondii, which causes toxoplasmosis and that is dangerous for pregnant women. Same goes for the dogs on the farm. They have a job to do. Protecting the farm and not carrying fox tapeworms, hair, dirt and yersinia pestis into the living room. It's a good sign that these Amish dogs are not tied to a chain but are allowed to roam the property freely. This way they stay healthy, both physically and mentally. Plus they can eat grass for their stomach and enjoy nature at any given time. Personally I think that they are way better off than all of these couch potato cats and dogs that eventually develop neurotic behavior and need a shrink like Cesar Milan.

@@elvenkind6072 indeed. the more crazier the current world gets, the more we can see how these groups actually had avoided so many of our modern problems. price of healthcare, nursing homes, finances, identity problems, gender problems, teen drugs and pregnancy, violence and so many things that modern people have troubles with, so much of these could have been decreased or avoided altogether, heck, even this global warming crap and being carbon negative. but then again, we would easily get invaded by russia or china if half the nation converted to this culture... that aside, even just partial adoption of their lifestyle would do wonders for the rest of the country. even their basic "dinner together every night" would curb so much problems in society specially with kids and violence and drugs and pregnancy. as well as divorce etc... i know. because i came from a culture that isnt amish but we practice the dinner together thing in asia and it does do wonders for peoples mental state.

@@elvenkind6072yes you can. Some communities will accept you. But not everyone. Some are more open to accept outsiders than others. The most difficult part would be the language Pennsylvania dutch, that old German/swissgerman/english mix. And You have to work quite hard, compared to the normal outside world. And you have to follow all the rules of the community and of the bible by heart. Otherwise you have to leave the community. It's not like "I don't like that commandment and I choose to ignore it" or "I will sneak in a tv to watch hockey" It's very hard if you know the outside world. People that are Born Amish grew up in the system, while you will probably have to learn everything from scratch. And that is quite difficult. But it can be done, if you really want to. You just need enough will to do it and a community that will accept you. And about the beast/ anti- Christ: Don't think you could escape the beast...🙈🙈 The beast will try to persecute, imprison, torture and kill every one that believes and that won't submit to it and that won't accept his mark. So the beast will probably immediately try to destroy the most traditional believers like the Amish. But we know that Jesus can raise the dead and give you eternal life. But it will be a very hard time once the Endtimes completely start. We will be persecuted and tortured and mocked just like Jesus was if we don't obey the beast. So running away won't make the beast go away. But I understand your idea, with the Amish 😅

This is where I'm at. All my neighbors are pagans. Tares that have taken the mark. I want to live by Amish, live a similar lifestyle but by myself frankly with my animals of course. And the specific reasons are because in all human groups, there are narcissists and psychoptahs. I don't want people bossing me or having a leader bossing me. If I need advice I will ask but other than that, I will take responsibilty for my own life.

what a crock of BS. My god.... You dont know the Amish, do you? I loved these people before I got to know what they actually are: a sick, twisted, repressive and cruel cult. If you like incest and animal cruelty - then you will love this cult. BTW -they were thrown out of Austria for their cruelty.

@@fifthavenuegirl I agree with you. The Lifestyle in Nature and with the Animals is beautiful but i dont need old Men to tell me how to wear my Hair or how many Times a Day to Pray and im Speaking as a Muslim Women which has a Headscarf but im totally against having like Guards standing in front of me and controlling if everything is the right way...this also happening in Amish Culture where really Important things many times are overseen.

What a simple meaningful existence, catering for yourself with hard work. Not taking things for granted. No anti social media to content with, no mobile phones in their faces but to communicate face to face. No crime, drugs or cultural enrichments forced on to them. No speeding tickets, hardly any pollutants created. Healtgy fresh wholesome foods. Respect towards one another. I think they have way more positives about them than my status Q generation. Amasing people. Cheers from 🇦🇺👍

Seeing a black buggy led by a beautiful horse is a beautiful sight and reminds me of days long gone by. Hard work and God-fearing people, two things that are missing today.

I found a long long plain wooden table w 8 beautiful sturdy chairs put together w wooden pegs and drilled holes......I found the set second hand.....I was stunned. I bought it in a heart beat and gave it to my son for his "conference table" as he graduated law school......one of our family's pride and joy sets of furniture......🖐🏻☺️

I grew up in western Pennsylvania and every summer I would stay with my grandmother in the summers. We would drive into Millers town 6:18 and Reading. There were a lot of Amish around. I loved it. Their cooking is excellent and so are their wood working skills.

I like this genuine people and community. They are the real believers and not hypocrites as I understand. They help each other so efficiently and effectively! I myself can’t live such a lifestyle but I respect them. It is interesting to know how much it costed and who pays for that building of the barn ?

I very much enjoy the having Amish in my area. They keep alive everything that is suppose to be great about community living. When I was young so many more people participated in cummunity events and volunteered or supported each other. The Amish still do.

Just look at those kiddos are running in the snow and having so much fun. I imagine the Amish don't see work as we do. Although manual labour is physically hard it's harder when you know so much of the population are sitting in an heated office etc. So if all are equal in their society it probably just seems natural to go amd graft. Great insight into their world. Thank you for sharing.

yes, while they work hard, they also believe in family time and relaxation. So, when we are trying to get to our office job in the blizzard, they are at home enjoying time with each other !

I was born Southern Baptist in 1967. Our small community lived like this. I can remember having canning sessions in the basement of our Church, as a community. All the women & girls did their part. The men tended the fields, livestock, except the chickens, my Granny made all my clothes, we had community dinner after Church every Sunday. I was 17 before I ever wore store bought clothes. No electricity, no indoor plumbing, gas stove & fridge. Do this day, I miss those days!

Thank you so very much for a very well done film/video/documentary(or whatever you call it nowadays!)… having grown up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, not far from Lancaster and the Amish, and getting to do a paper for my senior history class on the Amish and Mennonites and shakers, I have a bit of knowledge, that I have added to over the years, but especially lately with my smart phone and KZbin!!! I was raised Episcopalian in Pennsylvania and Florida, and did a bunch of other things, such as transcendental meditation and becoming a Nishiren Shoshone Buddhist for a bit, & going to other churches, etc, I finally joined/was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A lot of the values and teachings of the Amish are totally in sync with the Latter-day Saint teachings!!!! The Amish are incredible!!!! I really love and appreciate them a lot more, being that I am older and joined my church and because of these many wonderful KZbin videos!! I don’t live in Pennsylvania anymore or in any of the states where are the Amish really reside… had lived in Alaska for 16 years, moving down to Utah 20 years ago…
